Its seems like there are also overly long pauses between waves of enemies in certain parts of the game too.

If they had somesort of pointer or radar blip telling you where to go, it would be really helpful. I constantly end up running around shooting regenerating Forerunner drones for ten minutes and often die because I didn't see that obscure door/pathway/piston over there in the dark corner.

Gamespot's GAME OF THE YEAR awards are in!!!

and the big winner is...

World of Warcraft... Wow. The consoles really got screwed over on that one. Actually. I can't believe Paper Mario 2 got gamecube GOTY and that Burnout III got Xbox GOTY.... There's three unexcpecteds.

PS2 was GTA SA, no surprise there.

GBA's GOTY went to Astro Boy, also not surprising.

I'm struggling to think of a Game of the Year at all for the GameCube - which makes me very sad...

Any ideas?

Either that or Paper Mario 2.

This has not been a great year for the GC.

What's weird is that it still feels like Ninja Gaiden just came out....and that was in March.

I've just finished MGS3 and I've got to say that I haven't gotten such a great sense of satisfaction for beating a game like I did for MGS3 since I beat MGS2 back in the day.

This is definitely a must buy for everyone, you won't regret it(except maybe Chaltab).

Now to work on getting further into KOTOR II...

Had MGS2 on Xbox...hated it. Must have been the controller, having to click the joystick just to pull out your gun...but I"m always willing to give it and the other games a chance someday.

MGS on XBox just doesn't work, besides the fact that the controls were all wrong, the version for the XBox was by far the inferior version because MS shipped it way too early and as a result it was full of bugs and lacked many game-play modes that its PS2 counterpart had with few bugs.

I just could never get used to the controls on the Xbox one. I got Metroid Prime 2 for xmas. My first new GC game in almost two years.

The only part I don't like about MGS3 is that they didn't include a Demo theater like they did in The Twin Snakes, which means I'll have to play through the game again to see the cutscenes(probably Kojima's point of not including one).

I still mentally kick myself for buying TwinSnakes everytime I count my money.

I was reading about Halo 2 where someone from Bungie explained the pop-up during the cutscenes. Supposedly the flickering/pop-up is because Halo 2 uses the in-game engine to create the cutscenes, rather than pre-rendered ones. Apparently they made this decision because pre-rendered cutscenes would require loading screens, which they said they felt would "detach the player from the flow of the game". And pop-up doesn't???

What's this Pop Up you are talking about? I just played Halo 2 for the first time this past weekend and loved it. Please explain.

Well, it's arguably just nit-picking, but it still kind of bothers me. Basically, any time a new cutscene begins, there is pop-up for about a half-second. Within this half second, whatever the image is, it shows up in layers. For instance, when it cuts to Miranda Keyes in the bridge of her ship, the only thing visible on the screen is an animatic/skeleton, then her face gets filled in, then the wall behind her gets filled in, then anything else in the backround gets filled in. All this takes place sporadically over the course of a half second. Yes, it's only a half second, so what's the big deal? But once you start noticing it, it gets annoying (at least to me). My question though was whether or not this is preferrable to a loading screen.

Hmm... I never noticed it. Granted I didn't play the game long (only three levels; and I got to drive that big-ass tank across the bridge. Sweet!), but I don't recall seeing it happen. Maybe I just glossed over it or, since we may have known it was a cut between, I may have been talking to my friend at the time. C'est la vie. I'm not sure which I'd prefer.
