Lucasfilm acknowledging fan hate

Heh. Just got the new Insider and there's a letter I felt I had to share. Didn't expect this to actually be published, but here it is:

A GHOSTLY EDIT
I recently bought the Star Wars trilogy DVD set, and something has been on my mind. Why has the spirit of Anakin Skywalker, as seen at the end of Return Of The Jedi, been changed from Sebastian Shaw to hayden Christensen?
Danielle Cole - Davisburg, MI

And the official response:

When the photo of that shot was circulated on the internet, many fans were upset that Hayden had been inserted, most because they just didn't see the connection. However, there is a very reasonable explanation-but it can't be revealed until next spring when a certain new film opens in a theater near you.

Ugh. Well, just thought I'd randomly share that.

I second the Ugh.

That's f***ed. That response from Lucasfilm is pretty much saying, "Those who complained, are too stupid to understand why it was changed". Well the fact is, many DO know why it was changed (the spoiler that DON'T POST SPOILERS WITHOUT FAIR WARNING; I DIDN'T KNOW IT MYSELF - Mod). Nothing filmed in EPIII will justify this change.

The man lying in front of Luke at the end of Jedi is ANAKIN F***ING SKYWALKER, not Vader, hence why Shaw should appear at the end.

And yes this has been debated in other threads but it pisses me off to here from Lucasfilm that people were angry because they "didn't see the connection", they're angry because this change cannot be justified and does not make sense!

Given their reply to the audio probs on the 04 dvd set is anyone really surprisied by the contempt they the show the people who paid good money and put them where they are today?

I really don't want to hate Lucas, but his people have got to start treating their fans better - or maybe they think they don't t have to anymore as the £££ are drying up with the last film on the horizon?

I guess Lucas just doesn't see that connection. *shakes head ruefully*

I think that Lucas has put Hayden in at the end to dispell any theories that the jedi spirits are Lukes hallucinations. As luke has never seen his father until then this clears up any confusion. And even Yoda tells luke that "through the force things you will see people, places, old friends long gone"

Simple, Obi-Wan was right in ANH all along.

Vader was a different person and really did kill Anakin Skywalker. Sebastian Shaw was an impostor Anakin. Vader was lying the whole time, what a cock-bite.

I hear they are going to re-insert David Prowse's dialogue in the next edition. Thus, it will turn out that, in fact, Obi Wan did kill Luke's father, in episode III. Anakin has been dead all this time and just lurking around in the force for kicks, having a good laugh. Meanwhile, Luke and Vader met in an internet chat room and Vader disguised his identity, a chronic stalker, by claiming to be Luke's father.

So, there you go. Vader was never Anakin to begin with, the joke's on all of us, and Hayden belongs in the film. Who knew?

Very true. Having Anakin be dead during the whole OT kind of removes the whole, "Son VS Father" drama. Let's hope George isn't really THAT stupid.

This is actually an intriguing idea...

Indeed it is intrigueing. Just think, when we are confronted by SE fans saying none of the story is different, we'd have this to our defense.

Look, the thing is, unless there's this HUGE FANTASTIC MINDBLOWING GENIUS twist ending at Episode 3, that explains EVERYTHING and makes every fan happy with everything GL did, which I DON'T think will happen as not even Hitchcock could pull this one, we will leave VERY frustraded at the theaters. STILL... episode 3 might be the best one of the prequels, but that's like saying being shot in the head by a loved one in a psychedelic mirror maze is the best of all deaths, it's still not a good thing, you know.

I'm waiting for that plot twist that explains why Luke's saber now starts off green in ANH, and then changes to blue. After all, Lucasfilm has confirmed for me in writing that this was a deliberate creative decision and not a technical glitch as I claim.

If this weren't a family-friendly board I'd type a word that begins with "F" and rhymes with "Truckers!"

You must have missed the new line from Yoda in the DVDs...

"Believe! Believe you must or green the blade stays! When believe you do, the blade turns blue."

Yoda was a poet early in his life.

Sorry, just hadda.

Yoda the poet. That's something I'd like to see.

Whats up folks, I was reading this thread and I had to join so I could reply

I have a theory; I'm sure Lucas is aware that there are many Star Wars fans who love the originals but don't really care for the prequels. I think stuffing Hayden into ROTJ is a final 'screw you all' from Lucas to all those people, all those who would like to remember the originals but want to forget that the prequels exist.

Just my 2 cents

Welcome to the boards, zbgump. You'll fit in nicely here. Hayden Christensen and Dancing Gungans are now the last images of the entire Star Wars saga. I agree, it was a big middle finger to fans of the OT and detractors to the prequels. And I'm somebody who largely liked the Special Editions before now. Fortunately we have MagnoliaFan among us here, saving us from the wretched mess of Ben Burtt's editing.

Hear, hear.

I'm so glad that those of us on the internet who use torrents and Ebay can find the ORIGINAL Star Wars Trilogy, rather than be subjected to this imposter DVD set disguised as the Star Wars Trilogy.

That is if this torrent witch-hunt doesn't end quickly.

??? What is this witch-hunt?

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.

The MPAA going after tracker sites.

it's why suprnova closed up, to avoid being sued.

MySpleen looks to be in the clear for now. Not carrying anything of importance to them.

only stuff thats "Out Of Print" for the most part.

There's one thing I've been wondering since the MPAA started rumbling about going after BT users. Since GL burned his bridges with the MPAA rather spectacularly, would the MPAA care at all about the kind of stuff we trade? I would imagine that they would get perturbed about traders of the new DVDs, and Fox would too, but any copyrights that are being bent are held by a non-MPAA member. Any thoughts? This is kind of academic for now, but might not be if myspleen has to close up.

I doubt that there has ever been any director who could turn fans away to the point that they would spend thousands of dollars of their own money to return the films to their original state and get them on DVD.
I mean seriously, the amt of money and time put in by everyone here, on the various projects that were never created to be 'sold' is incredible.
All just to get ouselves a decent copy of a beloved movie on DVD, the way it was when we saw it. It still amazes me that he can't acknowledge that and put out a basic OT transfer by subscription only or something - even though he now hates those versions, it would be a nice gesture in the vein of "You people spent a crapload of mony on my stuff over the years, so here is what you want as a reward", even if we had to pay a premium for it.

But hey, look at the upside, we have created a vibrant community of people dedicated to doing just that...
