Is General Grievous really Maul??

Author
Time
Okay first let me say this - This might sound nuts.

OKAY now that I pointed out the obvious...

I've always felt that we got short-changed when GL killed Maul off so early in Episode I ~ It could have been REAL cool to have seen an ongoing duel with Obi-Wan that spans all three movies. That and it would have been super sweet to have seen Maul in the Clone Wars toons!

BUT I just watched the Clone Wars toons for the 10th time (?) and in the last episode with General Grievous I noticed his eyes again... A creepy bloodshot yellow - like Mauls (Then the white robes that kinda reminded me of when Gandalf is "reborn" as Gandalf the White) and the fact that he is SO skilled with the lightsaber...

So could General Grievous actually be a restored Darth Maul?

i doubt it. im referring to the interview in '99 in which GL said that Maul is dead. but who knows, it might just be some marketing ploy...

Absolutly not. Grevious's head is way to small. Plus being cut in half is an instant death and he could not be restored.

I havent seen the cartoons so i dont really know and couldnt form an opinion. I actually dont think maul will be brought back though it would be hot to see. And well lucas hasnt always been consistent in everything he says and does so anything is possible

Like i said, havent seen clone wars yet so cant say. Ill give you the head arguement but i dont agree that being cut in half is instant death. I mean people have survived some crazy shit in real life, nails through their heads, steel rods through there heads, 2 by 4's through their abdomen. So why wouldnt getting cut in half be survivable in a fictional movie where they have technology that is more advanced then our current tech. Besides the heat from the light saber would pretty much cortorize most of the wounds, and he was cut at the waist so most of his organs would be untouched...I definatly think that its possible for him to have survived.

But then you have to ask, why he wasnt in episode II. I beleive the time line between the two movies was like 10 years or something so thats plenty of time for him to have healed and been in episode II. Unless Lucas is just keeping him as the big suprise in episode III, but i somehow doubt that one, i mean fans would want to see Darth Maul again and lucas wouldnt want to give fans something they want. plus it would just add too much additional stuff that needs to be explained and there's only so much time.

Hey, Jimbo, maybe Zabrack physiology is different that human. Besides, a human getting cut in half dies really fast, but not instantly. Especially if the wound is cauterized.

If they can clone, it's not implausible that Maul's brain could have been "jump started" with the right technology. Similar to the technology that would, say, resurrect a charred body that fell into a volcano?

Oh, and Jimbo, is Grevious's head too small, or is his body actually that big? I don't think we've seen Greivous standing next to a point of reference to get a clear indication of his size.

Wait-a-minute ... am I at Star Wars.com?

Oops. Sorry.

Anyhow, the only link I see between Darth Maul and General Grievous is the fact they both have REALLY FREAKIN' STUPID NAMES!! So yeah ... maybe they are the same guy.

Is the unmasking of Greivous and revealing his true identity meant to be a bit of a surprise to Obi-Wan? (or have I just got confused again?)

I'll have to look it up when I get home but I remember reading an article about this very subject in a past Star Wars Insider issue.

From what I remember, the "creators" of Grievous originally had this idea... to make General Grievous be the resurrected Darth Maul. Their idea was that Sidious "saved" Maul much in the same way he does Anakin as Vader. In fact, that is why Grievous shares the same looking eyes.

When the character designers (artists) pitched the idea to Lucas he said emphatically "NO".

I guess it is just another case of the FanBoys getting pushed down by the man.

If you think about it, this would have made a lot of sense considering that Anakin was made to live through the use of a mostly mechanical body so seeing Maul "living" the same way would have made sense... but then again, we are talking about the prequels so such nonsense as "making sense" just goes out the window

If being cut in half didn't kill him then the fall sure as hell would have.

I would think that falling in lava would be, too. Just my opinion, of course. But I'm not gonna be the one to try it and find out.

The movie hasn't come out yet and I assume he was pulled out before getting burned too bad. I don't want any more information.

Got this off of scholastic.coms page:

How hot is lava?
Lava is extremely hot. Lava can reach temperatures of about 1,250° Celsius. The lava of the Hawaiian volcanoes reach these temperatures. Normal lava temperatures reach 750° Celsius. That is still much hotter than your oven is capable of reaching.

So i dunno, it might be possible to survive falling into that with only a couple first degree burns

Also Jimbo if Lucas decides to bring Maul back you dont think he wont be able to come up with some totally bogus..err, i mean logical reason on how he survived? I'm thinking something along these lines:

"After Darth Maul was cut in half the wounds were instantly cortorized thus elimintating the possiblity of bleeding to death. Seeing as his injury was only a small cut, Darth Maul was still in a perfect state of mind and able to cushin his landing with the force."

Thing is being cut in half separates him from his man parts. Would he have any desire to live without these.

Rik, I'm pretty sure you and I could write a book based solely on our hairbrained theories about Star Wars.

Oh, and get yer ass online tonight, we've gotta discuss things.
For as much as some people claim to hate what Star Wars has become, they sure seem incapable of shutting up about it.

Hence why I used the term "jump started." As in "brought back from the dead." Assuming of course that his brain wasn't turned into a puddle of orange goo. :-D

The official website sates Grevious as part droid and part non-humaniod alien. Darth Maul was clearly humaniod so that illiminates any possibility that Grevious and Maul are one and the same. Darth Maul did die in The Phantom Menace. Lucas has stated he will not return.
