I can think of just one word: WOW. This guy is a pro who’s worked on major films before, and he’s taken to restoring star wars by hand on his pc. He spent 2 days to simply fix a star field! Unfortunately, he has indicated that it is for his personal use… and that he has no plans to sell it. So I sent an email asking if he was willing to share it. But anyways, take a look, it’s really something

Oh they'll get their circulation. I'm not sure if Mark's planning on distributing them himself, or solely relying on others to do it. He could end up being like TR-47 who frowned on other distributing "his set". "Get them from me to endure their quality". Though he's been much better recently.

Oops, I meant Mike. I see Mike has a new FAQ. How nice. Still displays his total lack of knowledge for copyright law. You are not allowed to make personal "back-up" copies. There is no fair use exemption allowing personal back-ups in your precious DMCA. The exemptions are listed, and "fair use" is not among them. Gosh, you'd think Americans would know more about their own laws then the rest of us.

Well, his FAQ is saying that what he's doing is legal, and that distributing them would be illegal. That is simply not true. are you his personal body guard or something MeBeJedi? For all we know he could be planning on posting torrents. I was not attacking Mike, just pointing out how erroneous the ramblings on his (so-called) FAQ are.

...and for some reason, the two of you think that the fact that (Faid) just because everyone else wants to sell their copies or (DanielB) there's an error in his faq, that this means/proves/implies that he will sell copies of his versions also?

Those are both petty personal attacks (as well as against Americans), and you damn well know it. I find it funny that you attack a faq that you hadn't even bothered to read to begin with, and completely ignored several instances where others have told you he isn't going to sell his versions. For some reason, you chose to gloss over your oversight by picking on mverta. If you have issues with him and his legal practice, how about you e-mail him instead, because it's a waste of time here.

Well actually (please correct me if I'm wrong) but aren't the new laws just implemented recently prohibit anytype of copying/changing, etc. to your computer illegal now? I believe it's even illegal to make a backup of a movie to a disc you already bought. So what Mike is doing is illegal, in fact what everybody doing on these boards is illegal w/o the rights from Lucas films themselves. I honestly agree Mike has the right to distrubute them as he sees fit... though I'm hoping (even though I know he's saying different right now) he'll make them available for cost of the media, packaging, shipping of the discs or just put them on Torrents. We can only hope can't we?

Actually laserdiscs may not have macrovision but they do have some kind of copy protection because if I hook my laserdisc player straight into my stand alone DVD recorder and try to record Star Wars (faces edition) the picture gets bright and then dim until I put a magical device between them to correct this. VHS tapes also do this, I think it is called copyguard.

Yes, laserdiscs have no protection on them, but I'd still think the law wins on that case (if they focused on that part of the law). My point was just that I think taking the film and doing whatever to it (making backup, changing it around, etc.) is illegal now under the new laws. I aplaud you, Zion, Mike and the rest of giving us something Lucass won't. Can't wait to view your sets.

Macrovision is technically incompatible with laserdisc. It can't happen. There's something wrong with your setup.
