No DD 5.1EX in ANH......Ripped off We Want DTS

The back of the cover boasts that all 3 movies are in Dolby Digital 5.1EX. NOT TRUE. Only TESB & ROTJ are in EX to listen to ANH in 5.1EX you have to change it to Matrix 6.1 A minor difference to most but not to me and the DD in ANH is crap dialogue seems over enhanced in some parts.

One more thing, if george lucas is so chummy with Steven Spielberg (who owns shares in DTS) why didn't these movies come out in DTS-ES 6.1 its such a better format and suited to movies like SW where you need crisp sharp sounds and deafening bass. Maybe im just being picky what do you think

I think they explained why. Maybe so they could devote more space to video?

George Lucas has shares in Dolby Digital company.! I think 2hr is not that long. Look at 150 min Gladiator with DTS track. I think the picture quality on Gladiator is awesome! But I´m talking about PAL version.

You are incorrect! All 3 films do have true DD EX 5.1! Your receiver may not read it correctly, but I have a high-end setup, and ANH is in DD EX!

Please! Not with this ridiculous DTS is better than DD crap. All objective data on this issue has found that the difference between the two formats is negligible. Sometimes DTS is better, sometimes DD is better. But the differences are slight to say the least. When both formats are mixed from the same master, you couldn't tell the difference.

DTS is not used as often anymore, for the simple reason being that it is a space hog. DTS takes up a lot of bit space, much more than DD does. Since DD is the official format of DVD, it has to be on there. Most studios or filmmakers do not want to sacrifice picture quaity for a DTS track, which is redundant in the first place. In order to put a DTS track on a DVD, you have to take away bit space from the transfer.

As for these DD EX tracks on the new Star Wars DVDs, they are incredible. They do have crisp, sharp, detailed sound. They do have tremendous bass. So I have no idea what you listended to.

WRONG! These films look and sound better than they ever have. I know most here like to whine about the changes and will slam these DVDs just because they aren't the original, but don't make stuff up out of the blue.

Well im running a high end setup too and on auto the display for ANH reads DD whereas the other 2 display DD EX. I must admit i am a big fan of DTS and dont get me wrong i love the tweaked DVD i just yearn for great movies to be presented in DTS eg SW, The Matrix.

Gladiator was a great visual transfer and had both DD and DTS so why couldnt GL do it with OT.

BTW what is your definition of high end setup????

What do define as a high end receiver???

I have tried ANH on several "high end" receivers, (actually 3) but to no avail is it possible my copy of ANH is faulty or something as it is reading the other 2 movies as DD EX perfectly

I have a low/mid-range Yamaha receiver and I saw DD EX on my display for ANH.
