"is laserdisc the best source? what about super8 ?"

Laserdisc is the best overall resource for the O-OT. By "super 8", are you referring to a camcorder or to film?

"Tactile Transducers: AURA "Bass Shaker" AST-1B-4 x2"

Dude! No wonder you wanted to watch the first 5 minutes! That SD flyover must feel SWEET! LOL

BTW, did you ever figure out where the layer-change/disk swaps are?

"after seeing the "Lucas edition" I feel quite bad thinking how great an official original trilogy DVD would have been."

Sad but true. The transfer is georgous, but the content is unacceptable.

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.

Hey Ritker,

any news on putting up the SEs? I don't mean to rush you, just don't want us to forget either... this is an exciting SW week to say the least.

Yeah, I know what ya mean... it'll make ya sick.

Still... even with the SE changes and the ESE changes, the "official" DVDs are a pleasure to watch and with the great quality we are getting in "bootlegs" these days I can have my cake and eat it too.

Hey, anyone that has the new "official" DVDs.... did you notice a line change in ESB.... when Luke first meets Yoda and goes back to his house... before Luke finds out that this is Yoda he tells him that he wants to become a Jedi like his father and unless I am just dreaming this, in the O-OT Yoda say "how fortunate I was he" but in the ESE version he says the phrase "most powerful was he, most powerful". I guess this goes along with the idea that this (all 6 movies) is a series of stories about Anakin and how powerful he had become but I still like the bad English Yoda-speak "how fortunate I was he".

Yeah.... I'm going to have to toss in TR47's version so I can check this out... if so then I have been hearing it wrong all these years

looking at those covers it looks like dr Gonzo is the only bootleg with the right aspect ratio

Erm...no, the screens of the anamorphic versions (i.e. the official and the Dr.Gonzo) are stretched anamorphically (it is squished when you see it on a 4:3 TV to look normal, stretched on a 16:9), but the non-anamorphic ones (TR47 and MeBeJedi) are shown in the correct aspect ratio since they are nonanamorphic.

Check this out for more info.

Yeah, the Official and DrGonzo screencaps really should be adjusted to the proper AR. An important thing to remember is that the LDs that the rips come from are ~2.35:1, but the Official DVDs are actually closer to 2.40:1. You'll notice a bit of extra picture on the sides and a tiny sliver of picture (1 or 2 lines from the top) missing. It's not much of a change, certainly not the mangling that is full-screen, but for those who are doing a comparison, it explains picture size differences.

Hmm, it appears as if the officials have been moved down a tiny bit and expanded to the left, probably just using more of the original negative.

As amazing as the MeBeJedi version sounds and seems, the TR47 version seems to look a bit sharper and better in picture quality in those screenshots.
We need to have a downloadable video file of one scene of like the official version, TR47, and MeBeJedi. Or any combination of "versions".

I mean a full sized video download of one scene for multiple versions for comparison.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Does anyone know of any software that will allow me to take the .vob menus from the retail dvds and rework them as a proof of a concept to match my own (our own) specifications?

If I need to photoshop every frame, so be it, but I don't know any software that will allow me to insert frames.

I found that cool ESB menu that I mentioned the other day. The link is here. He is still working on it, but I like what I have seen so far.

EDITED

Looking at MeBeJedi's set, it looks a little pushed on the white levels... Leia's clothes, the Star Destroyer in the fist scene... no detail in the white areas. Just a white blob.

Looks like yet another kick ass set is on its way.

You kidding? I had to check the specs to make sure it wasn't from VHS.

Anyways the menu looks great for a fan made project... but the professionally created retail menus look even better.

"but the professionally created retail menus look even better. "

//sigh Then go ahead and put them on your own DVD. It's quite easy.

Man, this is why I hate using captures. Let me tell you right now...my DVDs look far better than these pics. In fact, I'm trying out some new capture settings, and here are some preliminary results. (The aspect ratios are slightly different.)

Notice the boxes on the wall in the background don't disappear anymore.

Holy shit... that new capture is looking nice!

Yup... keep it up man, I'm working on the covers for you. (A couple sets actually...)
For as much as some people claim to hate what Star Wars has become, they sure seem incapable of shutting up about it.

As I mentioned in the Comparison Pics post I made earlier, video image capture is hit or miss.... sometimes they come out spot on and sometimes everything can look much more blurry or even off in actual color saturation. The Dr. Gonzo screen grabs in my post earlier look more blurry than the rest... I'm not sure why... the actual DVD does not look that bad when viewing... just in the screen grabs.

MeBeJedi, in the new screen grabs you posted it looks at times as if "blurring" is being used which is washing out stars and fine details on white backgrounds (such as Leia's dress). Is this just the capture or are you using a "blur" filter?

Capture. Why on Earth would I use blur?

"It must be annoying being a perfectionist"

No, but it's getting annoying dealing with them... :roll eyes:
