Printing Star Wars DVD covers — Page 2

put the images you want printed on a CD as most wont fit on a floppy...
measure a dvd insert and just tell them you want it printed in the best possible quality with those following dimensions...
mine came out looking like a real cover... no joke

I would just burn the JPG's to a CD - At the shop let them know that you would like the print size to be - width 10.8 X height 7.293 @300 dpi.
AND Yes when printed on a bad-a$$ laser printer (like the Fiery XJ) the DVD cover look G-R-E-A-T! VERY real and VERY Professional!

Here is the specs on the cover sizes

All keepcases use the same size cover for the front and back 'the face' (1535 x 2188 pixels), the only thing that changes is the spine width.

COVER SIZES + SPINE SIZE

single: 3240 x 2188 pixels (spine: 170 pixels)

double: 3305 x 2188 pixels (spine: 235 pixels)

triple (slim): 3384 x 2188 pixels (spine 314 pixels)

4/5 disc: 3508 x 2188 pixels (spine: 438 pixels)

6/7 disc: 3661 x 2188 pixels (spine: 591 pixels)

ThinPak single: 3150 x 2188 pixels (spine: 80 pixels)

ThinPak double: 3172 x 2188 pixels (spine: 122 pixels)

CENTER MARKS

full size = 1535 x 2188 pixels
Vertical quarter mark = 547 pixels
Vertical center mark = 767.5 pixels
Vertical 3 quarter mark = 1641 pixels
horizontal center mark = 1094 pixels

A good program for JUST printing is Vueprint from hamrick.com - it really can make a visible difference. They also have Vuescan, the best scanning software I've used - once again, it can dramatically improve results, even with old scanners that add a lot of moire, etc.

quick question. Anyone that has downloaded the template want to post it up or email it to me? Been looking for it so any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Rikter,

I have DVD cover art and insert art that match those sizes/DPI...

If I take them to kinkos (the Covers and Inserts) will they be able to automagically resize them to the proper dvdcover/insert size just because they are 300dpi images? or do i have to tell them... # inches X # inches in size?

I used a different method. Just insert all cover you want to print and make a Word document of it.
Resize the images on the paper to match the DVD cover size ... and voila.

I had to do this, because the printing of color images is quite "expensive" So now the guy at the print store only had to print one word document. Instead of all the covers.

(I did this with all James Bond Covers, all 21 of em, saved me quite a bit of $$$)

I use this program called Cover XP, you pick the case your using then load the image and the program resizes it for you, then your ready to print.

^ thought it's better to Insert a picture (from file) in Word - at first I just copied and pasted from PaintShopPro to Word and it was only around 75% of the proper size - fortunately I caught the problem in 'print preview' just before...

Argh!
I can't get my chapter inserts to print in EFFING ACTUAL SIZE.

It keeps "cropping and rotating to fit".

Can anybody tell me how to make it stop? Or printing software that doesn't suck like that?

My stance on revising fan edits.

I always use Photoshop, and my dimensions are the same except height = 2175 instead of 2188. What are your insert sizes?

Can you post your SPECIFIC instructions on how to do this? [I mean instructions for dumba**es ]

I tried but I can't figure out the sizes to get it right.

Start up Word so it's on a new blank page.

click on File, and then Page Setup, click Paper Size and tick the Landscape box, press OK.

now click on File, then Page Setup, and click on Margins. adjust the margins to 3mm on all sides - this will fit even the 4-disc dvd covers.

click on Insert (top row of commands), and then Picture - scroll onto and click 'From File' - search for the pic you wish to print (or save in word format). Once you've found it click Insert, wait a few seconds for it to copy itself over and then click on File, and then Save As... or Print Preview or whatever you are gonna do to it.

Rik, just to let you know. I had my friend with a really good printer print the covers for me (on Photo paper, no less). He is a graphics designer and so he's used to cutting the margins and stuff like that anyway. He said he printed them at 310 DPI and at that resolution they are perfect. A bit of a squeeze getting them in for the first time, but once in they are the perfect width and height.

YOUR MY HERO!!

I figured that it was something like that - I tried to figer it out but said screw it and just used Photshop and my HP880c.

But I wanted a faster way that I could just walk into a print shop and have them printed with a LASERJET WITHOUT having to request them to process a JPG or a PSD

Again THANKS!!

No probs m8 - was a great idea of snooy47

Before I came across his idea I once went around the in-laws to use their cool printer - though they had Photoshop, a program I'd never used before - I was used to Paint Shop Pro) - it took me hours and fair few mistken print-out trying to size them up correctly...

cost me a few bottles of good wine as a thank you to them, that did

Hi guys,

Take a look at this link www.customflix.com/Producer/HowTo/Covers.jsp for a spot on dvd cover template, I have used it for other covers and it includes bleed/type/trim area.I run my covers out on the A3 laser at work with crop marks then cut them up to size using a scalpel/metal rule.

Apologies if link is old news!
