Episodes 7,8,9? — Page 2

Honestly, if the Heir to the Empire trilogy became episodes 7-9, I'd be a very happy star wars fan. One of the problems with the PT, for me at least, is the lack of a really strong villain. Sidious is a shadowy presence, not a strong villain lead. Darth Maul, while awesome, didn't have enough substance, and was killed far too quickly. Everything about Count Dooku left me cold, no menace or sense of threat inherent in that old man. Where as the OT had Darth Vader, and he was the focal point and personification of all the forces set against our heroes. And he was good at it. IF 7-9 were to be made, the first thing I'd want, is a really strong villain. Grand Admiral Thrawn is that in spades. This is all just my feelings on it of course.

Making Indiana Jones and getting it off the ground is entirely different than a SW sequel trilogy.

Jones 4 has been difficult because of scheduling, a decent script, and Ford's age.

SW can have different characters and timeline if they want. IJ cannot.

In the immortal words of Slim Pickens in the movie Blazing Saddles, "Ditto."
I'd settle for a bunch of cartoon miniseries.
4 or 5 30-minutes episodes per book, so it would take between 12 and 15 episodes to finish a trilogy. That's about a season of TV (given how long Droids was on the air).
The next season, they could do the Jedi Academy series.

Individual books could be worked in for mid-off season broadcast.

But I'm afraid NJO would be too visceral to translate to film without an R rating.

not nessarily, theyy could be properly edited to make them PG-13. but it the NJO would never be converting into film it there is too much detail interconections for a 3 movies to be made. i concluded that if it were ever done then movies there would have to be at least6 movies. and that would take atot of time and work. presonally i could see the thrawn trilogy being the 7-9, but asides from that there is noting in the EU that would work. also if its only the driods in 7-9 then it will proabaly take place like 40 years into the future and involve jacen, jaina, and ben.

I have one thing to say why the shouldn't do anything based on the Zahn trilogy and that is 'yyssalamiri' or however you spell it, the only thing stupider than Phantom Menaces 'Midichlorians' PLEASE GOD NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Is it so hard to comprehend that some animals can block the force naturally? At first, I thought as you did, but I found it to be plausible. If GL doesn't like the ysalamiri idea, then yes, the Thrawn trilogy could not be used. The ysalamari are an integral part of the trilogy. However, it is EU. I think EU has less of a chance of becoming movies as George Lucas will continue the series with the writing of the 7-9 episodes.

Hello, Everyone.

Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in (even though I haven't posted here in quite a while).

I remember hearing since I was a very young boy that there were going to be a total of 9 films in the Star Wars Saga. However, I could understand why Lucas would stop with Return of the Jedi. With the redemption of Anakin Skywalker's soul, Luke seemed to have fulfilled his ultimate destiny.

However, it is my humble wish that Mr. Lucas WILL do Episodes VII, VIII & IX. I must admit, first off, that I am ignorant of most of the Expanded Universe novels out there. I have owned a few over the years but never managed to finish reading any of them. [Maybe I have adults' A.D.D. ...] I DID read the novel adaptations of the entire original trilogy, on the other hand.

Still, I have heard some interesting things about the books. People's love of the "Admiral Thrawn trilogy", the formidable "Yuzhan Vong" nemisis (forgive me if I'm misspelling anything). Chewbacca's untimely demise. Han Solo & Princess Leia's 3 (or more?) children. Even if Lucas decided to not touch any of the ideas in the post Jedi E.U., I would still like to see what he feels wold be his continued vision for the "last" 3 films.

Since ROTJ sees the fall of the Empire, I figure the fans would naturally expect to see the members & supporters of the Rebel Alliance work toward rebuilding the New Republic. I'd like to see Luke becoming, for all intents & purposes, the "new Yoda". Luke building a new Jedi Council. Rebuilding the healthy ranks of the Jedi. [He'd need to delegate the responsibilities for training hundreds of new Jedi.] Re-establishing a sound base on Coruscant. Esentially, order being restored to their galaxy. It's not to say there won't be MANY obstacles. Imperial holdouts. New enemies trying to take advantage of the time of transition [no definite governing body.....]

Sure, all this may sound like it's moving to become more like Star Trek. [Bear in mind that I am also a fan of the Trek universe but moreso of the SW universe.] However, I think it would be the natural progression of what the Rebellion stands for & what Luke, Leia & our other heroes would work & have fought for. Uniting worlds. Proliferating peace. Freedom. Damn, sounds like I'm running for freaking office or something.

Anyway, just my 2 cents. IF Lucas never makes any more Star Wars films, well, I guess I could finally read some of the E.U. novels. If anyone has recommendations toward their personal favorite books / storylines in the E.U., I'm all ears.

MTFBWY.

Sincerely,
sidemachine

Good to hear honest thoughts like that. I like long, though out posts. We all can wish. Luca$ could make more money and merchandise more products so he may do it yet. Where $$$ are concerned don't count him out. He is a true artist after all.

ok well everythign that you said in your post sidemachine has already happened in the E.U. most of it int he NJO. luke rebilds his council. he is consdered the new yoda however sicne he is young he doesnt have alldom of yoda and it takes him a while to come to decisions. in earlier books people like bel ibs and mon mothma and ackbar become the back bone of the republic. monmothma is becomes the cheif of state, or the grand chansellor for a shot time. and ackbar is the grand admiral. man when you NJO guys get to destiny's way youll really enjoy yourself. that book gets soo much done and connects everything.

Sad, why? Discussing hypotheticals, rumors and possiblities (even remote) is what's fun about this board. No one said this is going to happen or this is likely. I think what's sad is people that don't put thought into posts and widely and blanketly criticize or those that try and increase their number of posts by putting two to four word posts on every thread. That's sad and offers nothing of value. Please don't bash free, unrestrained and creative thought.

More Star Wars after 'Episode III'?

Posted August 17, 2004 at 10:06 AM CST

By John Couture

We have been told over and over again for the past three years that with next year's release of Revenge of the Sith, the Star Wars galaxy will be closed for good. But now, it seems the black hole set to swallow up George Lucas' galaxy far, far away might be on hold for a few more films.

TheForce.net, the premiere online source for all rumors even remotely related to Star Wars, is reporting that they have received an email from a Bothan spy with information from deep inside Industrial Light & Magic.

"You didn't hear this from me, but you might be curious as to why everyone at ILM just signed NDA's saying that they will not discuss Star Wars EP7, 8, or 9. Since they're not being made, why the NDA's?"

NDAs, of course, are those media unfriendly Non-Disclosure Agreements that Lucas is notorious for. Of course, this is only speculative at this point, especially since Lucas has denied numerous times that he will ever go back and develop movies set after the events of the original trilogy, but it is interesting nonetheless.

Intriguing info, Bossk m8.

Could it actually happen? Eps 7-9? I suppose the OT actors are old enough to carry on the story 30 years on...

or could it be a smokescreen for another different venture - ie the rumoured tv series?

I don't think episodes 7, 8 and 9 will be produced. There could be an "official" book release of the episodes, tought.

Well as far as I know, these books aren't officially the episodes 7, 8 and 9. What I think might happen is an official release of 3 books that could follow a slightly different plotline, and would be the first SW books not part of an "expanded universe", but part of the official thing. Those would be short books, about 150 pages each, so that it tells a story that would be possible to tell in a 2 hour movie with no loss to the story.

Gary Kurtz did a really in-depth interview about all this once, explaining why didn't stay on for RotJ, how the prequels and sequels were originally supposed to work, etc. He said that all the material covered in 7-9 was all condensed into RotJ, as Lucas wanted to wrap things up then and there. Originally, Han was going to die, Leia become Queen to the people of Alderaan (?), and Luke's sister was to be hidden in another galaxy. There was no 2nd Death Star, no Ewoks, and the big showdown with the Emperor wasn't until Episode 9. All things considered, I think George did the right thing by ending things the way he did with JEDI. Of course, a few things could have been handled better, such as Wookies instead of Ewoks, the Emperor/Vader/Luke confronation taking place on Coruscant instead of the Death Star, and the 'completion' of Luke's training, but nevertheless it was the right path to take. However, it still left open the possibility of sequels; that is, before the PT came out. Before that, Star Wars was just the chronicles of a galaxy far, far away, but with GL's revisionist history and the introduction of the Prophecy of the Chosen One, it became the story of Anakin Skywalker. Like it or not, that story is completed in RotJ, and any further films are unecessary.

I do have a pretty radical proposal for a new trilogy, though. What would you guys say to three new films that served as the PROLOGUE, INTERLUDE, and EPILOGUE? The Prologue would serve as an origin of the Jedi and Sith, featuring the Sith Wars. The Interlude would cover the time in-between RotS and ANH, with Vader hunting down the Jedi, Obi-Wan's solitude, etc. And finally, the Epilogue would bring us back to our old friends from the OT as they re-build the Republic and the Jedi Order. I know it'll never happen, but it covers everything we want to see without being overkill, and gives us three more movies. Whether they could be GOOD or not, that's up for debate.

I like that idea of prologue, interlude and epilogue, that'd be cool to see, although pretty unlikely to happen. plus I don't really want to see the character's I grew up with in the original trilogy as old people shuffling about in outerspace, it'd be like watching Cocoon or worse, one of the Star Trek movies.

I would have thought the twenty years between Rise of the Sith and A New Hope could be worth exploring, you could keep Ewan Mcgregor , Jimmy smits, bring back David Prowse if he still fits the suit Chewbacca, I'd love to see the Jedi Purge in more detail, the formation of the Empire and the subsequent Rebellian, perhaps even a bit of Han Solo's back story and how he came to team up with Chewie, this would have been a very turbulent time period, it seems odd that between episodes 3 and 4, nothing worth documenting seems to have happened

Would you be happy to see CGI re-creations of Ford, Hamill, Fisher etc playing out the Timothy Zahn books, in a similar style to 'Final Fantasy'?

No. And that's why I hope these three episodes of SW never come to fruition.
