The new lightsabers are much better. They look more like swords. Also I am happy there is no fizzing out or loosing color.

These quality comparisons are not really fair to the original films or even the special editions. The OT and SE screen shots are undoubtedly sourced from bootlegs, while the 2004 screen grabs are coming from official DVDs. Now I have no doubt that the official DVDs will be unparalleled in terms of picture quality, but the bootlegs DVDs (or laserdiscs and VHS tapes for that matter) really don't look as bad as those screen shots would indicate.

Greedo shoots first? Not in my DVD player.

Actually the original and SE shots are probably from VHS. While the 2004 does look pretty sharp, all the bizarre colour correction leaves me cold. I'll stick with my boots and old VHS for now.

The original Star Wars trilogy: Our cultural history deserves to be preserved and should be available to the public like all great works of art!

I find it hard to believe that with the dramatic improvements they've been able to make in the restoration of this new print, that Lucasfilm aren't secretly doing the same restoration job on the Original theatrical print, even if it's only being done to preserve the film for "archival purposes" after all it was one of the main reasons for doing the original special editions.

After seeing what they've been able to achieve in terms of picture quality, I guess I'll just have to close my eyes when greedo shoot's first and use the 'Jedi rocks" scene as a chance for a toilet break, and turn Jedi off just before the end celebrations begin.

Buddy-x-wing: yeah I hear that it tears me up to see the quality they are doing but how many scenes will look good but be messed up.

Luke: 1. Ignore or Ban Jimbo 2. Donnie Darko is out in theatres now, it already started in Seattle and now is in LA and NY, but no word on proliferation beyond that. I have seena date in october (4th?) for a region 2 DVD in the UK, but I have heard no word about a US release.

Spicoli: You're right, they may be adding some "glow" back in, honestly, I hope...really...otherwise I will take the old ones. Light sabers are the best part.

16 years I wait and this is what I get???

Nice; it features both the theatrical release and the directors cut! Now if only George would get a clue

Sorry Luke - I did a search on the USA site of play.com (www.playusa.com) and only the original DVD came up.

If your DVD player is listed on www.dvdrhelp.com you may be able to find that it could function as a multi-region dvd player and not wait for the R1 Donnie Darko release.

I've no idea about any cover work, though I imagine there'll be a few on www.dvdcoverart.com
