1st time posting for this lurker...

stop me if you've heard this one before, but i just noticed something novel regarding the missing leia welding footage (stemming from the defective definitive collection 1st pressing). so tonight i was watching the TR47 version of ESB, and i decided to compare it to intact versions to measure how much footage was actually missing. it turns out that, to my eye, there is apparently NO missing footage whatever, only a ~3.5 second pause. i was comparing it to both the THX widescreen vhs ESB (yes the rare one) as well as the SE widescreen vhs ESB. there is no lost footage here, folks, only a delay. am i wrong?

Yes, that's correct. The missing Leia footage is on the anamorphic set.
Greedo shoots first? Not in my DVD player.

Actually, the welding footage is on the TR47 version after the 3 seconds of black, but it is NOT on the anamorphic set.

That's actually what I mean. The anamorphic set is the one that is missing the footage.

Yes, that is the only significant flaw in the set, and it is minor at best. There is no missing footage.

I never noticed that missing bit until it was pointed out here - how long is the welding sequence? (a couple of seconds?)

well the actual welding only lasts a few seconds, then Han saunters in and they start making with the smooches (my hands are dirty). so what i'm wondering is, on the defective definitive collection LD pressing, is there just a delay or is there actually missing footage, and if so how much exactly? that is, does the defective LD match the TR47 or the anamorphic rip of ESB? i recently purchased the definitive laser box set, but i haven't got a player yet to check ESB. i wish i discovered this forum before i purchased, but i figure either version is worth owning. incidentally, yesterday i purchased the '89 ws laser of star wars to get the audio with C3PO's tractor line (plus the sundry other subtle differences i'm hoping incl open the blast doors and sound effects). it seems to me like this disc would be a good source audio for mixing in with laserman's eventual ultimate edition.

what say you, ladies?

There are two different releases of the Definitive set. The first accidentally omitted the welding footage. A second release corrected that. The TR47 set used the second release. The bit of black is a mastering error on the DVD only, not the laserdisc. A MINOR flaw at best.

For those of us new to the forum here can someone who has been here for while post a summary of who is offering OT DVD's and are offering them for other fans? This way we can PM and get some ourselves!

So far we have TR47. Who else?

Can't use NTSC ?

Most TV sets and DVD players play NTSC nowadays right ?

NTSC is the American system. You know, like how the rest of the world uses metric.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Aren't the OT dvds (TR47 & the anamorphic set) region free - and will play on any dvd player - regardless of region?

I think the NTSC logo appears on a load of people's DVD covers as that is actual source of the laserdiscs used.

(Or have I missed something - as usual?)
