i would rather take a mysterious looking woman over a fully shown faced Ian anyday of the week and twice on sunday....

i know that many are tempted to buy the set... but the way i see it... the pros totally outweigh the cons...

pros
better picture and sound
bonus materials disc?? ( i still think its gonna be like the Indy SF disc and therefore nothing special...)

cons
Hayden Ghost
New crappy looking jabba
greedo still shooting first
naboo and screaming gungans in the end celebration
awkward looking ian in ESB with dialogue changes
PLUs all the other SE changes that were done in 1977...

i watched my bootlegs tonight and must say that im completely satisfied with what i have...
the OT the way it was meant to be seen!

Amen to that Luke. Except for lack of widescreen, my videos have served me well for over 12 years and continue to. I will not be tepted by this digital Dark Jedi release.

Look, all I have is crappy VHS. I have nearly every release of the VHS they released in the UK.
the only one I watch is the SE because it has a better pictuer and sound compared to all my othe copys. Even the versions I haven't watched (ISD BOXSET..No way, might get chewed up and that would really piss me off) are still shit next to the SE.
I for one can't wait to have it on DVD.
The changes are there, but really, they are no big deal.......to me!

Fuck me, as a kid, or more recently come to think of it, I always wished they cleaned up the special effects, made the lightsabers look better, get rid of boxes, matt lines, etc...So for me the DVD is pure joy...even if they have changed Boba fucking Fetts voice, but hey 3 lines in a film is no biggie!!!

More changes:

No more saber fizzle:

Dianoga had a facelift:

Greedo shoots first? Not in my DVD player.

Thank God that saber effect is fixed in that spot. That always bugged me.
Keeping The Star Wars Hoiliday Special alive. Once person at a time. Stir, stir, whip, whip, stir, beat, beat.
Author
Time
I like the new eye. It looks more alive.
Author
Time
Definitely good that they took care of that lightsaber effect. That always bothered me as well. It looked like it was holding one of those glowing glass rods (the one's that really only glow from the tip...like non-bending fiber optics).

I like the idea of redoing the eye, however, I don't like how the new one looks.
It looks too cat-like.
If it looked more like the original, but was redone as digital, I think it would have looked good.
Author

I believe this is the old eye with digtal irse put over it. I think the thing looks more alive less like a camera.

I'll probably just grab a used boxset at Streetlight Records for the time being. Also, I was never tempted to buy this set. I was so upsetted by my dad buying the SE back in 97 that I ripped off the labels, destroyed the slip case, and even creased the Mos Eisley and I think Jabba scenes. I was 14, and it just really got to me(I also smashed up his ID4 box). He says he got it for 20 bucks, but what upset me was the fact that he doesn't watch them anymore, my mother doesn't really like them, my sister only watchs them if I am, and he knew how I felt about the SE. In short, it seemed at the time that he bought it just to aggravate me(he does make useless purchases from time to time). In hindsight, I over-reacted, and do regret it, but he still had no reason other than "its 20 bucks and I wanted it"(he still has yet to see RotJ SE). I've asked him not to buy this DVD unless I feel it worthwhile. I don't at this time. Lucas can keep his half-assed digital makeovers/experiments. The only Star Wars on DVD in this house is the Prequels(I bought TPM three time, WS new, WS used, DVD), so I do support Lucas, just not the SEs.

lightsaber change looks good but the inside of the eye does look too cat like...
i mean to be honest that right there is something that never really needed to be changed...

but whatever..
its not like they can get any worse...

You should never say things can't get any worse. Things find a way.
Author

with these its impossible...
the fact that i dont want to buy them now means they are already as bad as they can get... what could they possibly change in the movies to make me buy them??
absolutly nothing...
thats why i say they're as bad as they can get...

he can destroy them all he wants now...

Luke, sorry, it could get worse.

Remember the Southpark episode "Free Hat"??

That episode was funny but it appeared to make Speilburg more of a nut then Lucas. This is unusual since Speilburg did release the originals of E.T and Lucas isn't.

They were just touching on the subject, probably doing little reasearch into the matter. Besides, more ppl know Speilberg
I just hate stupid people.

I think Luke's right...it's hard to imagine these things getting worse (yes, they're bad enough that they have ceased to be movies and are now merely things). That new dianoga is terrible.

Well remember these are not the final versions of the movie. If you hate these versions you will probably hate the Ultimate Edition even more.
Author
Time
oh right... the ultimate editions that havent even been confirmed by Lucasfilm... right...

i guess you guys are right... they could get worse... but i guess what im trying to say is if they did get worse.... it wouldnt have any much more of an effect on me as the SE changes did...

once something is ruined... well its ruined...

I'm still looking forward to thd De-SEized DVD in planning here at OT.com.

After thinking a while, forget a 'halfway edition'. If whoever ends up doing it does a halfway edition, please be sure to take it all the way as well with a fully DE-SEized bootleg DVD.

That. would. rock.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I was hoping they'd redo the Dianoga shot the first time around, it wasn't so much the look of the creature that worried me, but the fact that the scene just didn't seem to fit in with the rest of the trash compactor scene,

there was something about the way that the original shot was lit and the background that made it look like a bit of old 'stock' footage from a 60's monster movie inserted into the scene, it just looked like it was done quickly and added to the scene much later in the film-making process.

and judging by the shot it does look like they've toned some of the background colours down so that it fits better with the rest of the footage in the scene. although I'd really like to see a clip of the scene to get the full effect. not sold on the cat's eye though.
