Here's some pics I found on another thread of the new changes...

So to some people that said there wouldn't be changes after the SE, just cleaning up, well...

And this isn't a change, but good shots of the box art and cover art for the DVD's

Hmm...

it certainly seems this isn't a half assed job like the 97 SE was.

When the set starts to look appealing, I always remember that all the crappy SE changes are still there. And the desire is instantly gone.

Sure Jabba looks better, but I push for not having the scene at all.
Sure Naboo looks good in the celebration, but I push for no galactic celebration at all.
Sure Greedo shooting first looks better, but I push for Greedo not shooting at all.

Hayden as a ghost sucks.
The new Emporer sucks.
The new Boba Fett voice sucks. (WTF?!!?! NOOO!!!)
You'd have to be crazy to want to change the lightsaber effects in ESB. WTF did they possibly find wrong with them??

All in all, I am neutral about this. By default I revert back to only having the O-OT on laserdisc transferred to DVD. And I'm happy.

God bless Rikter.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Anyone else think film alteration is a lot like plastic surgery? The changes don't exactly improve anything save a quick boost of self-esteem. Oh, and it's highly addictive.

Interesting analogy. I like it, and it seems to work. Funny how I hate the idea of cosmetic surgery for the sake of self improvement, too. However, should someone need cosmetic surgery as the result of an accident, then go for it. Much like film in my case. If a film is so old and detereorated that it needs help, then do so. But if you are altering it just to say you can, bugger off.

To do plastic surgery you must be vain, wealthy, have a low self-esteem, have memories of how great you once were, continue to try and fix what is naturally going downhill...hmmm, you're right this is George Luca$! I do like the analogy Zombie. The worst part is a will be one of the first in line each time there is a new release, because I too am a fool for what was once so beautiful and I can't fall out of love, no matter how many times I get hurt. Lately my Star Wars love affair feels all too masochistic.

Why do you create a new thread when we already have a good thread discussing this same issue?
Author

I think the only thing I actually like out of all those pics is the rancor. Looks a heck of a lot better, especially that second pic.

hahaha!

now that im looking at the change with the new emporer...
i actually think it looks stupid...
it so doesnt fit the look of the film...

and i still think jabba looks like complete garbage... not much was improved there....

and jimbo if you dont have anything to add to the thread than dont enter it...

Compare Michael Jackson's face in the early eighties, to the unrecognizable hideous freak he is today,
Now compare the original Star Wars trilogy from the 70-80's to the special special editions 20-something years down the track!
SPOOKY!!!!! I'm sure Michael thought he was making improvements at the time too!

bxw, that's some funny stuff!

So, what you're saying is that, given a few more changes, our beloved SW series may look more like Star Trek when it's all said and done. God forbid! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

He was normal??

I suppose you mean as normal as Michael Jackson gets, right?
Author
Time
"normal" in a strictly relative sense and bear in mind that it is highly subjective as well.

Yeah I used to love Michael Jackson too back in the day and uhhh Mike tyson was once considered, dare I say, better than Ali...not much of a discussion now (ass kicked yesterday).

Anyway, I agree Luke, Jabba still looks stupid, making the greedo scene "look better"...who cares, fix who shoots first damnit, and yeah the new emperor thing is dumb, I mean I dont mind if more of his eyes were covered to make him more ummm, phantomy or menacing or phantom-menacing, oh damn, I guess that stupid-ass title does make sense. Wait...No, no it doesn't I was just drifting.

Maybe Lucas is the Phantom Menace because he has perverted everything we love and give us ample Jar-jar and the attack of the clowns is Rick McCallum and crew that execute that crap.

Yeah I am bitter.

i think my bitterness is starting to fade on me...
ive come to the conclusion after talking with many of the great new members on here that im not the only one who thinks Lucas is an ass for doing this...

and since then ive realized that if this is what he wants... than this is what he gets...
i still have hope that one day he will have to crack and give us what we want... either because he needs money, is pressured by some outside force or wants his fan base back before he passes on....

By the way, I've heard that the Return of the Jedi 2004 DVD version has leaked to the 'net, has anyone seen it/heard about it?

Yes it has been discussed here many times. It seems Return of the Jedi has the most new changes.

All proven changes

All lightsabers for all three movies have been fixed and enhanced

A New Hope

1. The poorly done digital Jabba of the 1997 Special Edition has been replaced with the much better Jabba from The Phantom Menace (Han still steps on his tail.

2. Greedo still shoots first but it looks alot better then before

3. Diango is enhanced to look more alive

4. Death Star hallway has been fixed

5. Lettering on Death Star panels written in Aurebsh

6. Binary sunset now has clouds

The Empire Strikes Back

1. Emperor is now played by Ian Mckain and has some new dialog

2. Luke no longer screams as he falls

3. Bobas voice is now played by the actor who plays Jango in Attack of the Clones

Return of the Jedi

1. Racor matte lines are gone

2. Naboo is now part of celebration

3. Unmasked Anakin no longer has eyebrows and his eyes have been recolored to match Haydens (though he still is played by Shaw)

4. Anakins Ghost is now Hayden Christianson (This is the only one I don't like)

5. Jedi temple now appears in background for Coresunt celebration

6. Palpatines lightning effects have been fixed

Not to put a downer on your post, Jimbo - but there seems to be fluctuations in the colour of Vader's sabre throughout RoTJ, this may be due to the colour / contrast settings on pc monitors or due to the compressed rip OR that it may be a work in process dvd and therefore unfinished.

For what you is 'fixed', I think 'enhanced' would be a more fitting word as there is nothing 'wrong' with some of those scenes decribed - they've just been altered or enhanced...

The Emperor in ESB is now played by Ian McDiarmid.

Apparently Gungans can be heard shouting 'Weesa free' in the Naboo celebration shot at the end of ROTJ (MagnoliaFan take note )

Luke I feel your pain and no, none of my bitterness has faded. I am strongly cynical to all things Luca$ but it did spawn this board and so many others and it is giving a pile of things to debate and discuss and I too am interested in every detail released. I might groan or be happy (mostly groans) but I am interested nonetheless. I still want the OT, trust me.

i still dont know if the lightsabers have been fixed in ROTJ despite what many are saying...
ive compared both my DVD bootlegs and the leaked version i got off the net and they look the same to me....
maybe he just fixed them in the other movies... cuz i dont see any significant changes in Jedi..
