Episode I-VI: Archival Editions — Page 3

Umm, Jimbo...I am not sure if you are trying to correct me, but uhhh, that was my point. The changes I list on this page of the thread to the 2004 DVDs is different than the ARCHIVAL EDITION of 2007 which has a much longer list of rumored changes at the beginning of the thread. So, uhhh, yeah, I agree. Hmm.
16 years I wait and this is what I get???

As I said earlier, if you had read my reply properly, the point I was making that who ever said we are going to get a archival edition? This is pure speculation, the only thing I can see changing for the final boxset if anything is the puppet Yoda.

But there were only 2 versions of LOTR, and spaced by only a few months. So if you wanted the extended version you just had to wait a couple of months or whatever.

I just don't think that the average punter is going to shell out all that money, to what will be slight, minor changes to a film they already own. Again, the average person couldn't care less about it.

Lucas wants people to see his version of the film.......Thats the point!! People aren't gonna see his version, if no-one buys it...no-one but the real hard core SW fans..

On the other hand, if the so called Archival editions had the original versions along with the september release, a few more people are gonna be interested and spend that kind of cash.
Only a few mind.
For instance, I like LOTR, and I bought the DVD when it was released, but I couldn't give a shit about the EE.
I ilke 'em but not that much.
Same for the dumb public. They like SW and are going to get the DVD, but they ain't gonna buy it again just coz there's a few 'extra' bits in it.

But fuck it, if they do release a special, special edition of SW, no doubt I'll be mug enough to spend the cash again.

The bits says that the 2004 DVDs are not the final versions. The bits have been right about everything on these DVDs and it really is stupid to continue questioning them. The thing is all the changes in the 2004 version are not really expensive. Deleting matte lines and cleaning up thing are not to pricy. All new digital changes are simply prequal effects added in. Lucas had no time in production of Episode 3 to work on new effects for the originals. Which is why for the 30th anniversery you can bet there will be new versions of the movies.

Fuck me man, you just don't see anyone elses point do you.........

"the bits are always right".....how the fuck do they know whats gonna happen in 2 years...

There's going to be lots of disappointed fans in 2007.

Regarding the LOTR DVDs. Jackson and Newline were kind enough to release two versions: an extended cut and the original theatrical version. I happily purchased both. There's a lesson in there for George Lucas.

I took you to school on this matter already, jimbo. The bits have in fact reported inaccurate information. They are not perfect.

They have not been wrong in the past. Everything they have said about these DVDs as been right. They claim there information comes from industry sources who have the right to know. Why do people continue to deny them when they always seem to be right?

No Greedo still shoots first. However the scene was modified to look alot better. Han no longer does the horrible looking hop. It no longer looks like Greedo fired at Han who shot back in self defense. It now appears Greedo fired a warning shot and Han takes that oportunity to blow his head up. Even though its much better then in 1997 I still overall prefer the scene in its original form. Still with this fix the scene is now acceptable to me where as before I hated it.

Yeah, I know. I'm the one who first posted the video.

My point is that the bits reported the scene would be changed BACK TO THE ORIGINAL VERSION. That would make them WRONG. Get it?

So the Bits have never been wrong about anything, ever? Not once.
Sorry man, but thats just bullshit mate.
Thats such an arrogant, ignorant point of view man.
No one or nothing is ever right all the time.

Lol, I thought Jimbo had learned when he tangled w/ me & Shimraa. Funny how Jimbo says "when they always seem to be right" seem to be is the correct term dude; they seem to be fucking right. They aren't a supernatural force that knows all, & has some fucking looking glass that they can tell the future w/
lol
Man Jimbo, just let it go, U can't win this one. The site has had some good info in the past, & they will have some more good info coming later, but they have some flaws & they also need to juice thier info up a bit to make people keep coming to their site. They can't just print the facts cuse those can get boring and undesireable.

I'm sorry, you're right, there were only 2 versions.

I was referring to the number of DVD sets you could buy of LOTR. amazon.com lists some:
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (Full Screen Edition)
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (Widescreen Edition)
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition)
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition Collector's Gift Set)

Then you've got all the box sets of Fellowship + 2 Towers, WS and FS editions, the full trilogy in WS and FS.

I also thought there were more sets.

not wanting to throw a spanner in the works but.................

didn't they release about 5 versions of the Star Wars trilogy on VHS throughout the 90's? & we still bought EVERY set!!!

I own the original CBS FOX video release

1991 Widescreen release (1st time in widescreen)

1994 Digitally remastered

1995 THX mastered trilogy (last time originals released)

1997? Star Wars special editions

2000(2001) Star Wars trilogy with Ep2 sneak preview

So it COULD be possible (& with GL anything is) for them to release ANOTHER box set, happens with other dvd titles ALL the time..... 1st release, 6 months later DELUXE set & then a year later the vanilla DVD.

I'm fully expecting a FULL 6 film STAR WARS SAGA dvd boxset at some point, like im expecting all Lord Of The Rings films boxed togethe rin the super humdinger of all mo-fo sets with an hour added to each version (again)

These companies have us all by the balls & thats where they'll keep us!

BTW...im not agreein with Jimbo or his love for the digital bits, im saying it wouldnt surprise me if they decided to rip us off just that little bit more! but hopefully this will be the only version on dvd & isn't it annoying that the OT dvd doesn't match the nice looking PT dvds.......cunning or intentional?

They did release alot of versions of SW on VHS, like you I bought most of them. But apart from being remasterd or whatever, they were basically the same film.
The point I'm trying really hard to make is, if Lucas wants us to see his vision, his version, he's not going to release a DVD now, then in 2 years release his version.

I'm not saying that they won't release another box set in 2 years, they probably will, but the films inside will be the same. Apart from the changes to episodes 1 & 2 that is, the Yoda thing an shit!!!

Hot Rod I disagree...when all the of the NEW triogy comes out you don't think that's another time to cach in on a box set? Further, the HD-DVD or Blu-Ray Peoples are probably negotiating with Lucas because which ever format he agrees too will be successful. This Boxset is now the bestseller of all time and its not even out. And if people were going back to get new sets for widescreen or better sound if you think they won't go back to get all 6 with HD sound and audio...well, its a capitalistic society and GL is a capitalist. Further GL and his camp have alluded to this Archival Edition and that label is there own. I will have to find some quotes (although I may have already posted some earlier in this thread). The full 6 disc boxset, High Def format, and 30th anniversary...yeah it'll be there. BTW, he is fixing Yoda and some of the CG in Ep. I, and changes are being done even to the new trilogy. Go back and watch the deleted scenes for ATOC he mentions how great most of the scenes they cut are and they alluded to this release they didn't use them. If you see Magnolia's version they are better added back in with the Padme plot builders. I am not arguing, merely posing another viewpoint.

oh i had a great time reading this thread...
no doubt jimbo is finally starting to rub off on other people... i bet they understand my frustration...

but anyway...
LOTR released only 2 versions and when you take a look at what both had... they were two totally different releases...
therefore i believe it was worth the money to purchase another version of the film which was not the theatrical version...
and when i say not the theatrical version i mean buy like 30 min of new footage...
with SW we're getting shit... new effects... CG... crap like that...

with the set in 2007 i kinda agree with Hot Rod... not so much as to them releasing the OT, but not releasing the same set with new scenes...
i mean think about how much hassle they went to with this one... plus they're not gonna give us any new special features...

if anything the 2007 set will be all six films in some stupid box set...
thats what im thinking anyway...
his 6 film saga... but they're gonna contain the exact 3 discs from the release in September...

im still praying it will be the OT as we all know and love though...
30th anniversary would be a prime time to release it... especially after all the publicity he's getting from not releasing them...
anyway... rant over..

Hotrod is on the same wavelength as me. Yes! a new boxset in 2007 of all 6 films, and why not? tThat is a great way to acknowledge Star Wars' 30th birthday and that is why I won't be buying those DVD's in sept. Cause I'm going to get the SAME films in 2007 in a proper complete boxset along with ep's 1 to 3.

hehehe...Luke...hehehe I don't think the last thread he left cause his views were less-than-smart is still up anymore, but that was a riot too Actually he left the forums for quite some time after that too ANYWAY,

I think I'm gonna wait for 6-DVD (or whatever is prominent then ) box set, so I can have one nice one for a long time

Think of the differences in the CG in Ep. I and II, GL, loves to tinker and his camp has referred to the 2007 release as Archival editions, meaning perfection (in his mind)...CG will improve over 3 years...and he will make changes to Ep. I - III for that box set, he has already alluded to wanting to change the puppet yoda. GL will want this release on HD, his Archival Edition, to be the "penultimate" version with better picture, sound, more extras (hopefully the OT, probably not).., and certainly improving CG where possible, its simply part of the Remastering process now. I believe the crew that is working on it now will still be working on it until 2007. He won't just release something with HD, this will have to be something with new suprises. The DVD's of Ep. I & II are different then the theatrical releases and again he said he'll be making some changes in Ep. I and II for the next release, so why not? Maybe they will get that Biggs scene and the cantina scenes fully restored...that I do hope for. But we can all disagree and that's cool. But GL has set precedence for never leaving good enough alone...

Don't take this the wrong way. I am not flaming you, just asking a simple question. When has Lucasfilm ever made reference to a 2007 archival edition? Just show me a quote.

^ I'm not sure of GL's people mentioning a '2007 Archival Edition', but there are references by them of an 'Archival Edition' on the SW OS.

IIRC one of them was McCallum

Don't worry about it and thanks Jason...we all now GL doesn't say this is the title to all my movies, this is my plan and this is the release date. He and his camp have alluded to them several times though and eerie as it is to my post a little bit back in this thread, this guy at the digital bits says this, and yes I know this got disputed, and no this is not your conclusive proof...though I really don't feel like searching...but really this is my sentiments exactly as this guys puts...
____________________________________________________________________________________
Consider that Lucas has said several times in the past that the ultimate versions of these films will eventually be released in high-definition format. Consider that May of 2007 will mark the 30th Anniversary of the original film's theatrical release. Consider that both Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD are targeted for launch in by late 2005 or early 2006, and one of them will eventually replace existing DVD.
If you think Lucasfilm and Twentieth Century Fox are going to want to pass up a chance to re-sell you these films for their 30th Anniversary, very likely in high-definition, well... I want to know what kind of drugs you're taking. Those next-generation optical discs are going to have an awful lot of room to fill. Might Lucas decide to include the original theatrical versions of these films on that multi-disc set, alongside his ultimate versions, just for sh_ts and giggles? Who knows.
What I can tell you for certain, is that the versions of these films you're getting on DVD in September are NOT the final versions. They're just one more step on a longer road. This is not the last time they'll be out on disc, and a better release is already in the cards. So buy them, don't buy them... it's ultimately not going to matter. Do what you feel you must.
____________________________________________________________________________________

What year was the special editions released? 1997 (20th anniversary)
Matter of fact I'd probably assume that Lucas will go one more round in the theatres. They did it with the LOTR extended editions, he did it with the SE's and he's doing it with the THX 1138 rerelease.

With better significant sound, picture, music, and storage capability of HD-DVD...uhh...I think it's coming guys.

I will eventually get you some quotes other than what Jason has given for me (thanks Jay).
