dont fret obi wan, you are not alone!

there are others that too feel your pain!

I was mortified when i read those wish list/proposed changes, so many months ago, embarrased to be a Star Wars fan, I was!

When is Lucas just gonna give up the ghost & leave em alone???

Every change brings them closer to becoming THAT episode of the Muppets featuring Luke & the droids........how long til the 2 grumpy old sods start heckling Luke as he tries to best Vader in combat???

No doubt I shall find out on Sept 20th!!

Yup i said Sept 20th! Oh tis joyous! In the UK we get the set a whole 24 hours early! I may have had to wait 14 days to see Spidey 2 but now I get to tell u all in advance how much theyve been changed!

"Aaaaahhh, revenge really is a dish best served cold"

die-jarjar-die - as a fellow UK'er I took great delight in seeing AOTC before our US friends and discussing all sorts of spoilers amongst other people who'd seen as well on the 'net. It's not often this happens...

It's good for a role reversal at times.

On a different matter, I love the Theatrical Version OT - and will gladly watch them over any other of Lucas' edits, though a list of further changes that possibly will be made by GL should not upset people here. GL will go on to tinker with each new home viewing format - he has done so in the past, he is doing it now and he will do so in the future.

Even after the 'Arhival Edition' or whatever they'llbe called I'm sure he'll go onto make further changes with each new passing home format - giving the fans the excuse that this was his vision and the new latest technology has only just made it possible for such and such a scene to exist...

All of which makes GL look an arse - and more of the fans will be disillusioned and join or begin thier own quest to get their preferred, or maybe even all, edits out on the latest format too.

Luckily for us, we already have a damn fine choice of dvds of the OT - and soon no doubt the quality of those will improve with the introduction of a good dual-layered dvd, and then it'll move onto the next newer format.

In the end Lucas has lost - the Theatrical Edit of the OT will be seen by an ever increasing group of people - it exist's now and it will exist for a long time after GL and many of us here have passed on.

lol!

great wasnt it??? i remember coming home from the midnight showing & jumping on the net to tell all my US mates the intricate details of the plot hahaha

im not lucky enough to have any original dvds....im sticking to my 5 versions of the OT on.....dare i say it....VHS! including my Executor boxset...mmmm...that set is sweeeeeet!

My love of all things original was completed by finding the Soundtrack boxset, including a 4th cd of alternate takes of various pieces of music in HMV about a year ago for £20!

^ Well, at least you're in the right place if you ever feel the need to get 'em on dvd

I have often heard of the Executor Box-Set - in fact my m8 has one (tho it's still in it's wrapper and he hides it from me when I go around - prob petrified I may unwrap it or something! lol). Though I don't know much about it - apart from it goes for quite a sum on ebay and are obviously very rare.

Could you fill me in on the details and contents?

(one day someone'll do a thread with all the differnt available versions and thier formats... - that'd come in handy.)

yeah no worries...its a 4 video deluxe boxset that was released in a limited edition metal tin in I think 1995. It's wide screen presentations of the OT (I think it's the same as the THX last time OT ever to be released vids) on 3 videos, each video also has trailers and I think a documentary about the making of the film, the 4th video is essentially the original 3 making of videos (making of star wars, from star wars to jedi & classic creatures....all previously released).

the set also contains the Star Wars scripts & some art prints. It's a great set, I think it originally sold for about £50, I've known people to get lucky & buy it from ebay for a mere £20, but then some who have paid £100's, just keep an eye out & you might strike it lucky, defintely for me it was the Holy Grail.

It's packed away at the mo as I've just recently moved, I'll try and dig it out tomorrow & fully list the contents as I'm sure I've left a few things out!

It's quite interesting watching all the documentaries & interviews with George Lucas over the years & various releases of the OT, you really can see where he's changed his mind. Nowadays he claims it's the way it was always meant to be, but it seems it wasn't...perhaps that's why he wants rid of the OT once & for all, its not the movies but the evidence of him contradicting himself that he's trying to eradicate!!!

Phew ... good thing these are rumors:

04. The ewoks are now mostly CG and there are a lot more of them.
Why ?
It was bad enough as it was ... rocks defeating lasers ...

07. In the battle of Endor there are thousands of Ewoks and they are more vicious than there midgets-in-suits counterparts. More bite the dust now.

More die ... well thats ok then

Some of these changes are ok I might add. Like the voice of Boba Fett for all the stormtroopers ... interesting idea.

Btw, if this list is false ... why would anyone come up with this. Maybe Luca$ found it and is now thinking: "Those are some good ideas for the 30th anniversary editions"

Thanks alot

Btw, anyone think there'll be a 50th anniversary

Right here goes..

I was a little stoned last night and had trouble sleeping, so I lay in bed and thought about a few things.
Then everything sort snapped into place, and I think I figured it all out.....

So.........Here goes!!!

In september we are going to get Star Wars on DVD. This DVD so far is the biggest selling DVD of all time. Every fucker wants SW on DVD. Lucas knows this, Lucas knows that alot of people are going to by this.
So I think that this version IS the final version of the film. This is the 'Archival edition' (or whatever)...Why do I think this? Well....

Lucas is always going on about he's making these changes because these are the films he wants us to see.....Do you really trhink that he's gonna relaese the DVD in september with a few cahnges, knowing millions of people are gonna buy them, only to release another version in 2 years with added scenes or whatever.......no.......This is the version he wants us to see, this is the final version....
Think about it....The average Joe couldn't give two hoots if Han shot first, or if Bobas voice is different. NO, all thay care about is having SW on DVD, and Lucas knows this. So if this is the biggest selling DVD of all time, I doubt very many people are going to go out and by another box set in 2 or 3 years. Only the die hard fans would do such a thing, (which brings me to another point, which I'll talk about later). If these are the films Lucas wants us to see, why release another verions in a space of a coulpe of years...Not many peolpe would fork out another £30 or whatever, just to have a few minor changes...No.....

THis is the final version. Now, when EP3 comes out next year, the changes to the OT will make sence. The Hayden Ghost thing, the Clone voice thing, all the little changes will all make perfect sence, somehow.
So with that in imind, when 3 finally comes out on DVD that will be the only version. Then we'll have another box set of Episodes 1,2 & 3.
Now 1 and 2 may have slight changes, but only slight. Again, the average Joe doesn't give a shit about an extra 10 secs here or there. The changes will be slight. eg. Bail Organa in TPM. I know for sure there was a scene filmed for TPM that featured Bail. He was played by another actor - Adrian Dumbar(sp?) a british actor who looked like a Welsh rugby player. Obviously while editing the film, Lucas thought that this guy was'nt right to play such a big role in the next two film so cut him out. It was probably a pointless scene anyway, just a few lines in Palpatines office, mainly for the fans to go"Ohh look Bail Organa, Leias dad"....So quite easily a new scene could be filmed with Jimmy Smitts, for the PT DVD box set. Little changes like that.
So 3 comes out on DVD, and you can then by the PT box set, put it next to the 4,5 & 6 box set, and there you go...The Ultimate, Final Star Wars. The Way Lucas wants us to view them. The films he wants us to see.
I don't doubt that after 3 is released on DVD that they will bring out another big box set with all 6 films. But thats just for those who didn't bother buying the DVD first time round.

So my point is,even Lucas is not that stupid or greedy enough to release the DVD in september, with changes, to be bought by millions, only to release them again, with a few more changes, only to be bought by hard core fans. He wants us to see HIS film, so the versions that will be coming out in 2 months are those versions, the ones he wants us to see. The final version of Star Wars.

Now I said up there somewhere about die hard fans are the only people to by another box set...This brings me to the original versions.
'The Archival Editions'...Now doesn't archive mean something old, stored away, in the archives!!!...see where I'm going with this.
I reckon the 30th anniversary edition will be exactly that. The original versions and the final versions in one box set....like the Aliens box set..both versions on one disc.....a 7 or 8 disc set......This way all the fans who have been ranting and raving about not having the films they saw as a kid on DVD will finally get the chance to own them, along with the version Lucas wants you to see.....everyones a winner!!

Then you can see why Lucas DID make the changes. I'm sure that ANH will look pretty shit compared to EP3 if viewed in order.123456.

Now this all made perfect sense last night, I hope it does now!!

What do you think?!?!

HotRod may have a point here...
although its still hard to say what he has planned for 2007 if anything...
that would definatly be the time to release the originals... in their original form....
however just the fact that Lucas looks extremely dead ass serious when he says those versions dont exist anymore is the only thing that scares me...
i mean that guy looks serious when he says that...
however if we're going to get our movies in their original form that would be the time to release them...
i just hope he release's them seperatly and not with the PT or any other shit like that... whereas if we buy the OT we also have to get the SE and PT with it...
i dunno....

but i love your theory HotRod and pray its true!!!
and if it's not im coming for you...

oojason...yeah it was PAL set limited to around 10,000 I think, so probably was a UK only release.

HotRod ... dude ... damn ... what the hell were you on ... and where can I buy it

Anyway ... it sounds good ... but ... why would Lucas bother with saying that the OT doesn't exist anymore ...
And from the looks of it, he's not lying.

So why would he go through all the GL Bashing over the SE and New SE coming to DVD ... just to release it anyway.

On the other hand ... if he DOES release all the versions of the Trilogy ... he can finally get all the nagging (j/k) OT Fans of his back.
And say: "Here ... watch it and love it but stop nagging or I'll change even more, like take out the Leia Gold Bikini Scene"

Once again ... I do hope he does release the OT. It'll look nice alongside the Bootleg DVDs I bought

One of the points I was trying to make is that this version of SW on DVD out in September, will probably be the final version. I doubt that he'll release a special, special edition for the 30th anniversary.
No ones gonna buy that, apart from the hard core fans (me).
So the version out in september is HIS final version.

So for the 30th anni - why not show what was and what is now......
It's a great way to finnish it all off - His lifes work!!

FWIW, I totally agree with you, HotRod. And come 2007 everyone will see. Of course by then they will all be talking about the 35th or 40th anniversary versions.
Greedo shoots first? Not in my DVD player.

well its a 50 - 50 chance of that happening...
and if it does then all the better... but for now im still thinking we're gonna get screwed....

i find all this talk of him thinkin the SE are his oringinal vision cant just be some sort of publicity stunt... he obviously knows how mad this is making certain people...

but then again who knows what's up his sleaves...

I still think that if people want to see his vision, most aren't going to buy two box sets in a space of two years.

Most of this list is nonsense and the little bits that aren't have already been rumored to be in the september release. I agree that, had the public waited until 2007 for complete Star Wars on DVD, we would have seen a few more changes. But I don't think that is ever going to happen now. I reckon George Lucas wants to get on with other things he has planned and wash his hands of Star Wars. That is why he is releasing them in sept, he's got to let those original films go, even if they don't quite gel with the prequels. Granted we will get a new boxset of all 6 movies in 2007 with possibly slightly altered ep's 1 & 2, but that will be it. And that can only be a good thing in my opinion as he has screwed around with these movies far too much already.

According to milleniumfalcon.com this is the list of changes Eros for the 2004 DVD release:

ORIGINAL TRILOGY DVD SPY REPORT: The Song Remains The Same

Monday, June 21 2004

MF spy Raith Sienar reports on the new Original Trilogy DVD changes plus Episode I DVD Re-Release alterations.

Episode IV: A New Hope DVD:

* Light Sabers changed for Vader versus Ben Kenobi Death Star duel.
* TractorBeam control now in Aurebesh.
* Han and Greedo scene slightly changed (everyone's seen this).
* Jabba the Hutt redone from Special Edition Jabba.
* Boba Fett still mugs camera.
* Han still steps on tail - "You're a wonderful human being" - still there.
(The scene is an improvement over the SE - however, still not great.)

Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

* Emperor replaced with Ian McDiarmid.
Dialogue in this scene has been slightly modified, indicating either that the Emperor knows it was Luke who nuked the Death Star, or that he is Vader's son. Maybe both. Otherwise, dialogue remains in tact. Emperor's theme from Jedi also added into the scene.

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi:

* Hayden Christenson has replaced Sebastian Shaw only in the Force Ghost shot.

* Line about Leia remembering her mother while talking to Luke on the Ewok Village veranda has either been omitted, or modified.

* Naboo has been added to the final planetary celebration montage at the end of the movie. It is a shot very similar to the helicopter shot of Theed in TPM when AATs are moving up the street towards the palace.

Original Trilogy Bonus Materials Extras:

* Episode III teaser trailer.
* Episode III Vader "making of" featurette.
* Easter Egg: Warwick Davis short film of Wickett the Ewok fighting Boba Fett on the Death Star II, shot as a gag during the filming of Return of the Jedi.

Episode I DVD Re-Release:

* Puppet Yoda has been replaced completely by CGI.
16 years I wait and this is what I get???

As I said a few changes, nothing like the amount that was on the list at the beginning of this thread. And the Yoda changes in Ep 1 were always going to happen eventually, GL was never keen on that puppet yoda.

Like it or loath it I think that is more or less the last, official version of the star wars movies we are ever going to see.

Eros the title of this thread is Archival edition, so this list above is different by three years and a competely different release. The above changes are for 9/21/04 not 2007.

Yes but no doubt that the 2004 DVD version is not the final version of the movie. 30th anniversery Ultimate Editions will be the final version.

Jimbo, I think you are wrong.........again

I went on about this a few posts ago.........

It doesn't make any sense to release another special edition.

Too many people are gonna buy this DVD in september, Lucas knows this, so this is the final version, the version millions of people are gonna buy, the version Lucas wants people to buy, the final version!

Not many people are gonna fork out £30-$60 dollars whatever, again in 2 years time.
It just doesn't make sense.
But no doubt you'll say I'm wrong and that yoare right!

I, for some reason, have to side with jimbo on this.
How many different editions of LOTR were released to DVD?? There were at least 3, right? People bought those. Why wouldn't they exhibit the same stupidity with Lucas?
