Does it look like motion blurring? Prillaman seems to cast this set in a somewhat favorable light, but not having actually watched them thoroughly, it would seem he was being hasty in doing so. One thing he mentioned is that there is slightly less dot crawl on certain scenes, but honestly I'm not really sure what that means exactly-I'm knowledgeable but not an A/V expert.

I'm not sure what "dot crawl" is either or maybe I don't know what to look for, but it definitely doesn't look like motion blur to me.

When some objects move across the screen (whether it be a character or a spaceship), it looks like half of (meaning "every other") scan line of the previous frame lags behind. In ANH I first noticed it in a bust shot of Tarkin as he walked across the screen. In ROTJ it was VERY noticable in the first few shots after our rebels first land on Endor and are walking through the forest. A lot of "scanline lag" can be seen on Han as he leads the team. Looking carefully, this problem can be seen throughout all of the films, just at different intensities depending on the action of the scene.

For the sake of TR47

- I MUST STATE that ANY of these Star Wars Archive DVDr's have come from amature video producers and NO ONE has claimed to be a Pro - NOW we all have to remember that.......... So DO NOT EXPECT Retail DVD quality!!

if you want the BEST version of the Original Trilogy, you really just need to invest in the REAL Laserdiscs.

THAT'S the word I was looking for. INTERLACING. That is what seems wrong with the dual-layered set.

This set is factory pressed and was probably done with professional equipment. It still astounds me that they screwed it up.

I just chatted with the creator of my set and he said the error is due to not being deinterlaced correctly (3:2 pulldown); it was likely done with some sort of software program and you can't do it that way with LDs. Apparently you have to manually deinterlace the signal, because you're taking a 24 FPS movie and converting it to 29.97 FPS NTSC standard, and they didn't do it correctly.

Unfortunately very few people have or ever had an LD player to begin with, hence the need for high quality DVD backups. Even fewer people would want to invest in what is now considered outdated technology just for the sake of these films, especially since you have to change LP size discs 3 times just to watch one film!

The set that I got (Thanks RowMan!) doesn't have any errors except the 3 seconds of darkness. You know what though, I can live with it. I've seen worse. These totally rock!

The TR47 set does look very good, but the errors that are apparently limited to a small number of discs are really aggravating. I'm glad the errors were produced by bad burns and appear to be corrected now.
Greedo shoots first? Not in my DVD player.

The only OTHER error besides the two that TR47 just reported - was the REPEATED Leia and Ewoks scene - this was an error that came on my master disc from TR47 - this has been corrected but the other two errors are ON ALL sets even TR47's - who above confirmed this.

IF you have a set that you got from me that has a repeating Leia/Wicket scene - email me and i'll take care of you.

The TR47 discs courtesy of Rikter that I have are a vast improvement over my laserdiscs.

Not becuase of the laserdiscs themselves, but because of the old worn out crappy player I have.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Rikter, you da man! Yeah, there are little flaws in the TR47 like you mentioned, but you can't beat the entire trilogy + extras for the price.

Thanks man.

hello everybody
been surfing all day on the web discovering fabulous stuff about my favorite trilogy on this website.
And most important of it all, peoples are keeping the original trilogy alive.
So i emailed to Rikter who looks to know what he's doing and nice enough to help the poor fans outside the US.
Hope he got my mail.

What's the deal with the new dual layer set that's just come out? I just saw it on a brand new "bootleg" site. It's $32 for the whole set and they're the original versions. Brand new.

Anyone?

I bought it and it sucks. Look at my posts on the previous page of this thread (page 48). TR47 and I are referring to this set and its flaws. The TR47 and anamorphic trilogies are still tops overall in quality.

Hey there - guys!

I'm getting new DVD media Ritek G04 media - I've been told this is the best for DVD copies.

I do feel real bad about the few folks that have gotten bad discs that they could not copy - replacements are on there way OR will be by this weekend - read errors should no longer be a problem with this new media. AGAIN this has only affected a few DVD's - It was a combo of burning speed (4.5x) and lame media. (beall WAS the brand name) OH yea - some of ya'll got Verbatim DVD+R's burned at 8x - they seem to play fine on DVD players but OLDER DVD drives have BIG issues even reading them

Again - I'm truly sorry for any problems this may have caused ANY of you guys and gals.

AGAIN - I will now be using RITEK G04 media

Rikter: Any idea where the source of the MagnoliaFan edits are from, i.e., are they off of VHS or DVD? And are they widescreen or anamorphic/16:9 enhanced?

The 2 MagnoliaFan Edits are in anamorphic format and sourced from DVDs.

They are well worth getting.

greetings folks,

ah my first post here, neat! ive read through this entire thread. i found it researching star wars bootlegs on the net with the intent to either find a good one or make my own. i have to say that although i havent seen it im impressed with what i hear about the audio on the tr47, wondering how that was accomplished and why there isnt a torrent :/

so im trying to put together the ingredients for a shot at the ultimate bootleg. a buddy said i could have his old laser disc player but i forget which model it is and dont know where it is on the quality scale. i may however have access to a top quality capture card, an 0sprey 500, and that thought is driving me.

im wondering what people think of the importance of the quality of the capture card vs the laserdisc player?
im wondering how tr47's buddy got a direct digital copy of the pcm audio?
also wondering (dont want to go all back through this thread again) which pressing of the laser disc is best. i know PAL is better than NTSC but whats CAV or the other one. and which pressing is the most complete in terms of missing leia welding and blast door scenes?

also i got a copy of the holiday special with the commercials, ill post a review or something later

thanks folks, may the force be with you :B
