Dpends on what you mean by UltimateEdition:-

the Sept 21st Offical dvd release

a possible 30th Anniversary Edition due in 2007

a 6 disc-set due sometime after Lucas has finished collecting money off the singular Ep3 dvd sales

Or mabye do a Lord Of The Rings and after the 'Cinematic Edtion' set release an Extended Edition set?

I'm sure he has other ideas on releasing his stuff too... maybe a BlueRay DVD release where we start all over again...

For a while now, when people here on OT.com talk about the Ultimate Edition, they are referring to the proposed 2007 30th anniversary edition of the sextology (is that a word?).

The DVDs coming in 2004 are not exactly the same as they were in 1997. A few small modifications have been made. Of course Lucas is far to busy with Episode 3 to do as many changes as he would like. The result in 2007 for the 30th aniversery of the saga there will be Ultimate Editions. These versions will include added effects and scenes to give all six films connection. New scenes for the original trilogy have already been shot during the production of the prequels. We can only guess what he has planed at this point but Ultimate Editions are definutly coming.

Fox distributes the Star Wars movies and they support HD-DVD not Blu-Ray. A 13 disc HD-DVD Ultimate Saga set is inevidible.

Dude HD-DVD discs use the same DVD manufactoring plants. So I doubt that it would cost more then a 13 disc SD-DVD set would in 2002. Probably around $120.

Yeah, and I don't exactly go rushing out to buy 13-disc SD-DVD sets. Biggest DVD set I have is six discs and most of those were purchased used.

Also, despite the same manufacturing, I doubt that HD-DVDs will be the same price as SD-DVDs when they come out. They're gonna cash in. Won't be too much more because they will want it to catch on, but they will want to make their money off the early adopters. It will be much like when SD-DVD first rolled out. Eventually they will drop in price, but not right away.

why does Lucas have to add effects to the OT to give all six films connection???
wasnt he supposed to take care of that in the prequels???
oh ya i guess not... he was too busy screwing them up i guess...

Says who?

i'll answer for jimbo... after all it's obvious what he's gonna say
the digital bits said it. I love the digital bits. they are always right! They dont just post rumors. They have industry sources that are reliable. Trust me! I love the bits. I love Lucas!

i think i got that about right...

Pretty much yeah Luke. Theforce.net has also said this to be true.

Show me some links to what has been said about these so called 'ultimate editions.'

What has been referred to in the past as the 'ultimate editions' has centered either around that rather long and superfluous fan-boy wish list that circulated last year or the actual official release planned for later this year. What you are thinking the 'ultimate editions' will be is nothing more than a fan-boy rumor that is being perpetuated by ignorant fans like yourself who believe anything they hear.

BTW, since you put so much stock in what the digital bits say, they have also reported that the Han/Greedo scene would be restored to its original glory. And we all know that's won't happen.

well jimbo sure got burned by Obi-Wan Spicoli....
looks like i get a day off!

i must agree that there has been no word of any Ultimate Edition...
so that is just a rumor right now...
for all we know Lucas may just throw the 3 prequels out on dvd in with the 3 cases of the OT and put a new box around them...
therefore people think its new but really its just the same shit in a different package...

Actually the bits pleaded for Lucas to restor Han and Greedo scene. They never actually reported he would. That was just a request. Also such editions have been reported for a long time. Just about every Star Wars source has pretty much made it sure that new versions are coming. Heres your link

They didn't huh? The following is a direct quote from the November 20, 2003 rumor mill:

Read it again it clearly says "Tell you what... if this pans out, I don't mind either of these changes. Better still, I'd eat a whole freakin' herd of Bantha if Lucas would just restore the Han/Greedo scene in A New Hope so that Han shoots first again. Anyone care to join me? Cross your fingers, folks... and fire up the barbecue pit"

It never says Lucas has restored the scene. Also Lucas has at least modified the scene to not look so technologically bad.

jimbo the bits are the same people who backed out on us when during their episode 1 dvd petition they said that things like we're doing actually does make a difference...
and then when they heard that Lucas wasnt going to release the OT they said we told you all along... no petition or anything will get Lucas to change his mind...
what a bunch of dumbass's.

Jimbo, what are you talking about? Those words do not appear in the paragraph I have quoted below. Perhaps YOU should read it again. You are reading the April 8, 2004 rumor mill. The Digital Bits report the Han/Greedo scene as being restored in the November 20, 2003 rumor mill. In other words, scroll down to this paragraph:

One other note today... we've heard from a number of interesting (and we believe reliable) inside sources that Lucsafilm is currently making major new changes to the original Star Wars films - the kind of changes he began a few years ago with the theatrical "Special Edition" releases. These changes include new special effects, revised and updated shots and scenes, and new footage shot with actors Hayden Christensen (Anakin) and Ian McDiarmid (the Emperor) that would flesh out moments with their characters in the original films. For example, an aged and scarred Hayden now appears as Anakin at the end of Return of the Jedi when Luke removes Vader's helmet. Among the other changes reportedly being made are the restoration of the original "Han shoots first" moment from Star Wars and a revamped lightsaber fight between Obi-Wan and Vader. What we've heard meshes with what we've been told before, which is that Lucas has always planned to release ultimate, "Archive" editions of these films that tie in better with the new prequels. The main question in our minds now is this: will these changes be completed in time to appear on the DVD releases planned for next September, or will we have to wait until after Episode III hits theaters to see them? And if we have to wait, what versions will appear on the DVDs? Time will tell.
