Hey Guys- I just stumbled onto this board- great stuff! I was wondering if a DVD version exists with the commentary tracks and the Leia welding scene. It seems as if we currently have a one or the other situation, is that true?

Thanks

Apparently, my DVD decoder is fried.

I'm gonna have to reinstall the operating system, destroying all data.

A.K.A. I'll have to re-download the torrents!

It'll take a sweet while, but I only had ANH hope done so far anyway.

At least those pesky vertical lines will be gone.

Hal 9000, before you reformat your system, I suggest you partition your Hard Drive. This way you can move the ANH file to the new partition and you won't lose it when you reinstall your OS.

I wonder if any of you has information on the DVD-R trilogy distributed on Sharereactor (eDonkey) about a year ago.

I own that set: no menu at all, it's anamorphic, and I'd say quite good quality.

Is this the same transfer as the anamorphic set (with menu) some are reviewing here. If the only difference is the menu, I'd stick with my current set.

How do I do that?

And how much file information can I partition?

If you're running Windows, you can use Partition Magic 8 (http://www.symantec.com/partitionmagic/) by Symantec (formerly Powerquest).

And how much file information can I partition?

Depends on the size of your Hard Drive and how many partitions you want and what size.

"I was wondering if a DVD version exists with the commentary tracks and the Leia welding scene."

I've determined that, even though my Def. Col. is a "better" transfer, it has too many glitches and such when compared to my "Faces" set. Alas, my Def. Col. is also missing a few seconds of Leia as well. What I'm about to determine is if the Def. Col. has a better PCM soundtrack as well (there do appear to be some differences, though not in actual dialogue.) If so, then my DVD's will have a combination of Faces video and Def. Col. audio. The commentaries on the ESB disc aren't recorded very well either (big sporadic volume jumps), but Vegas is able to tame them and level out the volume for me (threshold settings.)

My DVD's have both the regular soundtrack and the Def. Col. commentaries, with a submenu to access each one specifically. I've also come across the MainConcept MPEG encoder, which though similar to that in Sony Vegas (which I've used up until now), has more options (determining I frames on scene changes, etc.) It also has more documentation for all of the settings as well.

for starters, that's a drastic solution to a nuisance problem. Hit up Google Groups and see if anyone knows how to fix your problem. Note that if your DVD Burner has a hardware problem then the hard drive reformat won't fix it.

But here's a thought - before you blow away your data, take your hard drive to a friend with a DVD burner (or a bigger hard drive) and either burn the discs or at least back them up. That's what I did (as I have no DVD Burner)

My DVD burner isn't broken, as I don't have one.

It's allright, really. It's the decoder that's busted. I don't mind redownloading the ANH torrent; it's well worth it.

And thanks for the help!

Greetings everyone,

This is my first post to this forum and I currently have a set of the "anamorphic" DVDs. I have been reading through all the posts regarding the creation of DVDs based on the Definitive Collection LDs and it sounds as though LASERMAN will be able to make some excellent sets on dual layer discs (in 16:9 as well please!). I was thinking that this would be a good time to create some "Ultimate" editions. These are the following changes I'm suggesting:

Star Wars
- insert (from the SE LD) the full length scene with C3PO's long missing line about the tractor beam (mentioned in earlier posts).
- insert the "Biggs" scene that was added to the SE version (as this is an originally shot scene and not a Lucas defilement).

Empire
- insert the extended Wompa footage.
- and of couse we need the Leia "welding" bit in there.

Jedi
- no changes

I'm guessing this footage from the SE LDs could be colour "corrected" to match the Definitive Edition transfer.
What do you think?

If I were to construct (or have constructed by someone else ) my own 'Ultimate Edition' by combinging the O-OT and the SE, here's what I'd do:

ANH
Add only minor shots here and there (modified shots of the Falon taking off, new approach to Yavin, etc.)

ESB
Even though I still see no difference whatsoever, the new Battle of Hoth
interior shots of new Cloud City (NOT the approaching Cloud City shots. Also NOT that one shot where Chewie and the gang run by Artoo where the wall is gone.)

ROTJ
Add the celebration shots, but when it comes back to the Ewoks, they still sing as ususal.

As you can see, my Ultimate Editon would only include very minor things. What the SE *should* have been from the beggining.

ANH
Everything from SE except Jabba, Greedo, and the gang getting into Mos Eisle scenes, and restore original shooting scene when they go rescue Leia.

ESB
Everything from the OT, except the battle of hoth, which must be from the SE. The difference from the OT is that they corrected some sort of "transparency" of the objects in that scene in order to reduce the matte lines.

ROTJ
Basically the OT, but include the celebration scenes from the SE (but keep yub yub music)

Stop spamming the boards already. One post would have been more than enough.
Greedo shoots first? Not in my DVD player.

I have the DVDs seen at endorforrest.com and have to say I was pretty disappointed overall. True, these are dual-layered, factory pressed DVDs that come with very nice covers, inserts, disc art, and contain almost all of the supplementary material from The Definitive Collection, but the audio and video quality are severely lacking. The picture seems a bit dark and and is noticably fuzzy with some video artifacting. The worst of which was on Jedi. Dual-layered DVDs would seem have room for both the original two channel PCM audio tracks and the commentary track. These DVDs have neither. This set has a compressed Dolby 2.0 audio track. Also, the disc covers say "Widescreen Letterbox 16:9," but the actual image is 4:3 widescreen. The opening THX logo was anamorphic, though. I paid about $40 somewhere else. I'm still keeping them as I like the artwork, but if that is not important to you, I'd recommend the TR47 or the Anamorphic DVD-R sets any day over this set.

I don't know if that's lazy or ridiculous. It's easy to get the PCM track off the LD's, and it's just as easy to burn it onto the DVD. There's no reason or rhyme to compressing the PCM track for a dual-layered DVD. I just don't get that.

I just got a very special package from Rikter in the mail today...
I'll be watching the movies this weekend when I head home for a few days, and I'll let everyone know what I think, though I've already peeked at a few things on ANH and the bonus disc, and I have to say, I'm quite ecstatic from what I've seen.

Just thought I'd mention something about the Faces transfer. After futzing around with the picture, I figured out that the contrast was wayyyy too low, and adjusted accordingly. HOLY COW! What a difference. I guess this will be my video master after all.

For those who does not have The Definitive Collection Laser Disc, I think the best option is to get the The Definitive Collection DVD.
The bonus material included in The Definitive Collection is something you won't get in the SE version. As for the audio and visual quality, it is as good as the laser disc copy, but some how for us who always look at digital DVD and listen to the DTS audio track, we may feel that the analog is not so up to expectation, and also the Dolby 2.0 and 5.1 audio track, just don't seem satisfactory. What can we do, the films was made during 1970's and 80's, that is the best they have during that time.
I myself just got one copy from www.endorforest.com, it's only $29.99 for a set, what big deal if George Lucas don't want to release them as he may think the small portion of us can't make him go richer.

Cheers.

If so then I smell a rat...

I wonder if 'Death Star' would've posted the same thread below everyone of EndorForest's thread informing us that he has purchased a set off him...

The truth still remains that the TR47 set and the Anamorphic set still run circles around the set from endorforrest.com.

Perhaps we should add a little programing on this forum. If someone post endorforrest and a dollar sign $ in the same message, then bann that person for a while.
