Anybody else catch the Vols/South Carolina game?

That was....

I don't even know HOW to describe it. Tennessee dodged a bullet.. No, not a bullet, a hail of gun fire.

They were up 21-0 at half time. They didn't score AT ALL in the second half, while South Carolina dominated, and scored 3 times. So it was 21-21. South Carolina scored a field goal and almost another touch down until it was intercepted.

Tennessee made a mediocre drive in which their biggest gain was due to a forward fumble that a BACK UP line man recovered. They get into touchdown range, fumble AGAIN and recover. The quarterback has to spike the ball. Nine seconds on the clock; they kick a field goal and MISS.

But there's a penalty on the play. Five yards back, repeat the down.

The second attempt, the guy hits the field goal. 24-24. The game goes into overtime. As pitiful as Tennessee as the Vols have been doing, overtime has disaster written all over it. They lose the toss and have to do Offense first. They don't make it to the endzone and have to kick a field goal, and it's good.

South Carolina gets the ball. All the need is a touchdown to win, but they don't get it, the attempt sails over their guys head. They have to kick a field goal, and their kicker is incredible.

The kicker then misses what should have been an easy kick.

So it was like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and having victory get mad and take it back.

Eh, I'm so glad that our game was "away" this weekend. I used to enjoy football... er, the inappropriately named American football (am I the only person outside of Europe who actually gets how inappropriate the name is?) until I got to college three years ago and found how frickin' seriously everybody takes it. At good old Ole Miss everybody and his uncle and sister and any other distant relative is a complete "football" freak, and it wasn't long before I hated the damned sport. Every weekend there's a game here, the campus becomes like a country preparing for war... if preparing for war consisted of roping off all the parking lots, setting out hundreds of never-used trash cans, and dozens of porta potties. Ugh, the whole thing just drives me crazy. I've only been to two "football" games the entire time I've been a student here, and it probably won't change before I graduate. That's not to say it's totally a waste of time, as I used to have quite a bit of fun playing backyard "football" with my friends back in my pre-teen/early teen years. Of course, I also played plenty of soccer/real football and enjoyed that too. But oversaturation of the market killed the sport for me, and now I just wish it would die. On a lighter note, though, I loved "Brian's Song".

And how come making a sport for females automatically makes it inferior?

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

If Nanner Split wanted real credibility instead of putting those fantasy pictures up for show he would have included Keano who can play real football.

What the hell? That is retarted! Maybe we are trying to get Europe interested in Amerikan football by sending our teams over to play games on their soil.

This season starts out the new playoff system.  Yes, they are actually going to have playoffs now.  A commitee will select and rank 4 teams at the end of the regular season.  1 will play 4 and 2 will play 3.   The winners play each other for the national championship and the winner will receive this newly designed trophy:

USP_NCAA_FOOTBALL__NATIONAL_CHAMPIONSHIP_TROPHY_UN_65838024

What do you think of the new system.  Are you looking forward to it as I am.  What team do you cheer for if any?   Do you like the new trophy or do you prefer the old one, this:

My college football team is Temple. unfortunatly, they always stink. : (  Many in my area cheer for Penn State, but I somehow never became much of a fan of that school.

Oh hey, that new trophy looks neat.

I'll root for ASU (alma mater) or UofA (hometown), but I probably won't watch much of it just because I don't watch much TV.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

Well Temple lost to Notre Dame tonight, 24-20. : (

At least they kept it close. They were moving down the field with a minute to play, and threw an interception. So close and yet so far. : (

On another note I saw that Miami beat Duke on the last play with 8 laterals. They said the play was under review for 9 minutes. 9 minutes??? How the hell does it take 9 minutes to review a single play?!? What the heck was going on with the officiating crew???

Author
Time

Yeah, should have only needed 8 minutes…one per lateral.
