Deep Space Nine

For those in the UK, Virgin Media launched a new digital TV channel this week (153 on Sky), and starting with the pilot tonight they are showing every episode of Deep Space Nine.

I used to love this show and got totally sucked in by the whole Dominion War plot but for some reason or another stopped watching during the 5th season so I'm really looking forward to this journey.

So if you're new to the best Star Trek show to ever be made, or just wanna relive some classic episodes, then hop on and enjoy the ride with me.....

Some of the best sci-fi to appear on tv - really enjoyed watching the series when it was first run on BBC2.

Will make a note to catch it when I'm in - 3pm and 8pm weekdays, 3pm on a Sat and Sunday

Virgin 1 could well turn out to be a decent channel - Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Riches, Star Trek, That 70's Show, Boston Legal, The X Files, old BSG, Takeshi's Castle etc - certainly could be a more than a rival to the now-dreadful Sky 1 channel...

cheers for theads-up Daveytodd

I loved Deep Space Nine, but its overall story had the crappiest ending ever.

I have to say i was pretty disappointed with the ending but there really were some standout episodes along the way.

episode 2 was last night (Emissary pt. 2), and knowing whats to come, I love the way the Odo mentions he was found in the area of the wormhole and has no idea where he's from or who his people are. A nice bit of foreshadowing that shows the writers had the bigger picture in mind from the start

I didn't think they did really, I just thought they left it open on purpose to see where they could take it

I've been debating whether to get the series box sets. Having changed over from the expensive plastic boxes to the cheap cardboard ones I might consider it now.

The dickhead I work next to has just splashed out on ST:TNG 20th Anniversary Box set for like 130 squid.

He's also pissed that Sky gets Virgin 1, but Virgin still won't get Sky 1

Makes me laugh. He's also constipated, and has been for 5 days now.

The guy that works next to you is the WoW guy right? Sorry to hear he is constipated. I get that a lot. It really sucks. Especially dealing with it for almost an entire week! Has he tried something to free that up? Prune juice or something... anyway, tell him I said I hope he gets better soon. At least he has got a crap load (no pun intended, honestly) of TNG to watch now. I don't care what people say, that was still the best ST ever.

Yep, tis indeed the WoW nerd.
Oh man, he's tried prunes, laxatives, what ever to get the juice flowing. He drops a few pebbles but that's it.
I know I shouldn't laugh, but it is quite funny!

Back on topic- Deep Space Nine...Might give it a a go after season 3. My workmate swears it's the nuts. But then he would..he plays WoW ffs

Yo know a guy could take offense to that. Please don't lump the awesomeness of DS9 in with something so pathetic as WOW.

Whoa, Ringo. You better be careful what you say about WoW, wouldn't want to incite another orc attack.

LOL....I was thinking the same thing.

Tonights episode, 1.4 - Babel

Synopsis: "During a crisis involving the replicators, the station's crew is afflicted with an airborne virus causing aphasia. Everyone talks nonsense until Bashir realizes that the virus was engineered by a Bajoran terrorist attempting to sabotage the formerly Cardassian station, and tracks down the people who can create an antidote."

again, pretty average, just had a look through a trek site's episode guide n it looks like I've gotta wait a while to get to the good stuff

Most decent shows tend to hit their stride about the third season. I do like the early episodes tho, Probably cuz it was kinda like next gen but also pretty different. As always the point where things started to get really good was when they brought the klingons into it.

One thing I found annoying about DS:9 were the Ferangi. I absolutely hate the Ferangi. Has to been the dumbest idea for an alien species anyone has every come up with ever. I cringe to watch them. They literally make me want to start removing my intestines with a fork. So yeah, I truely dislike Ferangi, and DS:9 has WAY more than its fair share of Ferangi dedicated episodes, not to mention a full time Ferangi cast member. So it is kind of hard to Ferangi dodge when it comes to DS:9, something that is far easier with every other incarnation of ST. Still, I am always told DS:9 is the absolute best, so I ought to start trying to watch them. Anyway, if you hear in the news about a guy violently ripping his own intestines out with a dinner fork, then it is safe to guess I finally decided to try to work my way throug DS:9 and just couldn't handel it.

Yeah, I hate the Ferengi too, I don't know exactly what it is but I can't stand them. My favorite Star Trek is Voyager and when the crew got stranded in the Delta quadrant I thought I would be relieved from Ferengi. Well what do you know, those little bastards found their way even to the Delta quadrant through a wormhole. Good thing they were kicked back through the wormhole rather quickly .
Fez: I am so excited about Star Whores.
Hyde: Fezzy, man, it's Star Wars.

1.5 'Captive Pursuit'

Synopsis: "Deep Space Nine becomes the site of a struggle between the captive Tosk, bred to be hunted, and the race which pursues them for sport. O'Brien helps Tosk escape against Sisko's direct orders, but security is notably slow in pursuing him."

The best episode since the pilot, with the ugliest dabo girl ever in the opening scene

I liked the part when Samantha Carter got taken by the Replicators! ..... Oh wait, that's Stargate.

A bit off topic...

I do not have a fav DS9 show other than the ones with Beautiful Miss "Chase Masterson"aka the Dabogirl{sp?} but I like Voyager. if they "Remaster TNG, DS9 and Voyager's to CGI like they did with TOS" I may buy those HD-DVDs or Blu-Ray's. but I heard TOS is not 16x9 Anamorphic Widescreen.
