JD,

That is very exciting about the Universal contact. I'm about half way thru Returning to Jedi and I must say your efforts have paid off.

At first I didn't see why you would go back to do the original Star Wars (since Deleted Magic covered that material already...) But I can see your 'spin' on things is certainly unique.

Great job! Really.

Nice letter from Universal. You're really getting some notice with this one! It may lead to some big things.

I decided to get the NTSC version over at demonoid. I watched it with my mother last night and we both thoroughly enjoyed it! Lots of laughs, insight and general expressions of being impressed over the way you put it all together. Thanks again for this great project!

I also agree that a JD (I always think of Scrubs when I see that) version of Star Wars would be great. Your style is so unique. Though "Deleted Magic" is great on its own, we'd all love to see what you would do with it. For one thing, I bet it would be longer, as DM cuts out a lot of the story, whereas you pretty much let it play through, letting the movie's audio play over top of behind-the-scenes footage. Nothing is missed that way.

Congradulations on the letter, Jambe. Hope all your hard work pays off and this project does open doors for you.

P.S. It would be awsome having you work in the Lucasfilm archives.

Thanks guys. Hey, if that Lucasfilm job ever comes up, I might apply.

Just got this from Jabba's Left Arm, Toby Philpott:

"I watched it last night and enjoyed it trememdously! A nice mix of watching the film, and having points of interest highlighted or revealed...the section on Jabba compiles most things I know into an entertaining and informative sequence - what more can you ask?

Highly recommended!"

Also, check out this odd reference.

Managed to get a full copy (thanks Meedermow!) and watched this last night. Great work! Really enjoyed it.

It was nice to see the Pruneface highlights (officially Dresselians), and I loved the footage of the (unused) Cane Adiss (2 headed giraffe-like creature in Jabba's palace) which I had only previously seen pics of in the Star Wars Chronicles. Have you got the Chronicles? There's some very nice, rare pics that would have worked nicely in this docu (Ten Numb, A-Wing pilot, for example). Nien Numb puppet footage would have been nice (sure I've seen that somewhere before) but other than that, it was pretty comprehensive.

If you do go ahead with the ANH docu, I'd be happy to help with rare Chronicles photos if they're any good to you.

Hi, I do have the Chronicles book - I remember ordering it, paying about 100 GBP and waiting and waiting for it to arrive and what a great book it is.

'Returning to Jedi' was not really meant to be comprehensive though. There was so much more I could have added but it was generally in parts where there was already enough. I could have continued making this for years with the available material, but I decided I had to stop somewhere. Maybe I'll add some more for the ultimate edition

Numb video footage? I'd love to see it!

Cheers

Just got a great PM from blueharvest82 over at Rebelscum forums. Check out these lovely covers!

"Just finished up watching both your Documentries. Absolutly amazing.

Managed to fire up 15 mins of Return To Jedi on a large video wall we have at my work place, at closing time last night. It made quite a impression on some work mates. Especially when they thought Jedi was just running.. quite a buzz.

Anyway. please take these as a thankyou.

Can't for the life of me remember where I watched it. But I'm sure I saw some very recently somewhere. I'll try to remember......

And yeah, I agree that there's WAY too much that could have been included; I'm just a huge fan of the alien designs.

I would just like to say i think building empire and returning to jedi are 2 of the best damn documentaries I have ever seen on star wars, period. they make empire of dreams look like a joke, and that won a friggin emmy.

they also had unprecedented access to the lucasfilm archives. I can only imagine what you could've accomplished if you had the same opportunity.

Thanks skyjedi2005, much appreciated. If George is willing to give me access to the archives I would gladly making him another award winning doco

Does part 23 exist on youtube? I can't find it.

Jambe, I just finished watching this (except for part 23). Great job! It has given me a lot more respect for ROTJ (and solidified some of my opinions about Lucas). As with Building Empire, I found out a few things I never knew before.

Did you consider adding the rumor that the Falcon was supposed to be destroyed in the DS explosion? I'm not suggesting you should have. I'm just wondering if you happened to find out anything interesting about it.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Thanks for putting those links up. It's always so hard to find cover art when you want it.

That's true. I usually just end up making my own. Luckily, there are plenty for 'Returning'. I still modified my own, though.

Part 23 is now up.

I did think about mentioning Lando's death but I couldn't really find anything video or audio-wise to relate to it or back it up.

Thanks for the compliments.

I had a early teaser trailer that had a quick ( I mean blink and you will miss it) clip of the Millennium Falcon exploding while escaping the Death Star. If I can find it I will post it.

Sluggo is right. To my knowledge (and it's quite advanced don't ya know ), the shot you mention does not exist.

As far as I know the idea of killing off one of the main cast was abandoned before any shooting was done and definately before any effects work was completed. Even the early animatic (see 'Returning to Jedi' at 02:17:35) shows the Falcon speeding away from the Death Star.
