Getting too old for this sort of thing?

I'm actually over 40. Saw Star Wars in 1977 as a teen.
There's good in the Original Trilogy, and it's worth fighting for.

I am 34, so I do remember seeing SW as a 5 year old in 1977, but can't remember that much of it. I do remember ESB in 1980, and being a scared as shit walking out of that theater as an 8 year old boy. Of course ROTJ was awesome in '83 as an 11 year old.
Never too old for SW, it is the one thing that my friends and I still talk about today from our childhoods and that we still love today. You need some things from your youth to keep you young.

37, almost 38 here. Saw Star Wars in 1977 just after I turned 8.

In my 30's. Saw all of them in theater! One time each, only, because my parents don't believe in seeing a movie multiple times.

18. Does that make me the baby here?

I discovered Star Wars at a very early age to make up for it. I stumbled across a recording of ROTJ that my dad had gotten off of the TV, and wondering what the hell the Jabba's Palace scene was all about. My dad bought the VHS box set (the pre-FACES one with the cool poster artwork) not long afterward, and I've been a fan ever since.

I am interested to see what friends your age think of the OOT, SE, PT? Everyone I hang out with is my age, so we all grew up seeing all 3 movies in the theater, so the SE & PT & ROTJ are all inferior to SW & ESB. Everyone I know thinks EXACTLY that way: They rank them SW/ESB (some love ESB more, some love SW more), then ROTJ, then the PT movies.

Is there anyone you know who loves the PT? Loves the SE more then the OOT?

one of the earliest Star Wars memories I have is of going through a collection of movies taped onto vhs off of tv airings in the basement of my aunt's house. I don't remember what age I was, 5, 6, maybe even 7, but I decided to watch Return of the Jedi. I didn't even know that it wasn't the third part of the trilogy, I just assumed it was the second because it had the word "return" in it. I don't think I got much farther than "look, captain solo, and he's still frozen in carbonite" before I stopped from not knowing what the hell was going on. And btw, Nanner, I just now read your post, wierd coincidence.

I'm 14. What's amazing about Star Wars is that it is truly timeless, and always will be. On this thread alone, we have a huge range of ages of fans; all as devoted as the next. How many movies are there that attract a fan base like that? It's amazing.

My parents decided to rent Star Wars and show it to me when i was 6 or 7, and really don't remember what I thought about it. I also saw ESB and ROTJ, and, as a young kid, loved ROTJ the most. (It is now my least favorite of the trilogy--still a great movie though) All I really remember is that I thought ROTJ was the best. I loved the films--I know that. I liked playing with toy lightsabers, or watching the movies over again when I was bored. I saw the prequels, and loved them all---at first. As you probably know, I dislike them with a fierce passion now. But I had never really loved Star Wars nearly as much as I do now until two summers ago, when I went to visit some relatives with my mom in Chicago; my uncle was getting his P.h.D

We stayed at my other Uncle's house, and I had a lot of fun--it's a nice house, and my relatives are great. Thing is, my cousins are all twenty years older then me. My mom's closest sibling is seventeen years older than her. So I didn't really have anyone to hang out with, and when my mom was talking to all the adults, I kind of had to do my own thing. In the basement, my Uncle had a really big TV, and a good sound system, and a widescreen VHS set of the Star Wars Trilogy. I hadn't seen the movies in a long time---I think I thought I had grown out of them---or maybe I thought they were outdated in comparison to the prequels. Whatever the case, I wasn't eager when I popped Star Wars in; heck, I didn't really remember much of it. But then there was the opening crawl, and the first scene where Vader invades the rebel ship; and the first scenes on Tatooine. Within fifteen minutes, I was hooked like a fish. An hour and a half later, when my mom was telling me it was time for bed, I didn't even hear her; I was so into the movie. When it was over, I just wanted to pop in Empire Strikes Back and continue watching; but it was time for bed. The next day, we toured Chicago, went to a great Pizza place, and did lots of fun stuff, but I couldn't wait until we got back to the house and the adults started talking again, and I was free to go watch the next movie.

Yes, I was 12, quickly approaching 13. But at 12, I saw Star Wars for the first time, and fell in love with it like countless people half my age had in '77. I had seen it before; but not in the way I did now. I had had a rough year in sixth grade; horrible teachers, a horrible school, the whole nine yards of awfulness. The day sixth grade ended, we left for the trip to Chicago, and I didn't think anything could really chear me up; after all, I had to go back to school in three short months. But that vacation really cheered me up at a time when I needed nothing more than happyness in my life; and Star Wars a big part of it. I cherish memories of that one week trip above most vacation memories; yes, it was low-key and simple; but that's what I needed, and like I said, Star Wars contributed to it a lot. The point I'm trying to make is that Star Wars knows no age; 6 year olds loved it; and it helped out a 12 year old when he really needed it; right at the age where most kids forget about Star Wars. Star Wars still helps me when I've had a bad day; I just have to pop the DVD in, and get transported to a galaxy far, far away, and everything's better, if only for two hours.

Sorry if I rambled; I just wanted to tell that story, and make a point about the timelessness of Star Wars.

I'm 20 and first saw Star Wars when I was nine. I'm just a bit older than Nanner, that baby. ^_~ But I guess I'm the toddler compared to most other responses.

There is no lingerie in space…

C3PX said: Gaffer is like that hot girl in high school that you think you have a chance with even though she is way out of your league because she is sweet and not a stuck up bitch who pretends you don’t exist… then one day you spot her making out with some skinny twerp, only on second glance you realize it is the goth girl who always sits in the back of class; at that moment it dawns on you why she is never seen hanging off the arm of any of the jocks… and you realize, damn, she really is unobtainable after all. Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I'm 32 (20 January 1975) and always up for a trip to Alderaan.

I was fortunate enough to see ROTJ in the theater in its first run when I was eight. As a matter of fact, Jedi was the movie which sold me on widescreen presentation. See, I remember being absolutely blown away when the Falcon flew into the reactor housing area of the DSII - the sheer immensity of it was amazing to me. However, watching that scene on video didn't have the same effect; I assumed this was because of the small TV screen. Watching Jedi on widescreen demonstrated that the TV wasn't the main culprit, and I've been a stickler for widescreen ever since.

I don't care what GL does anymore, really - no matter how ridiculous the franchise gets, there is no such thing as guilt by association when it comes to the OUT. I'm a fan no matter what.

Im 20 and think one can never outgrow SW, I think the reason people believe you can become too old for SW is because of Ewoks.

I'm 19. I saw the trilogy on TV in 1996 and the rest is history. I got the 1995 VHS trilogy box and later of course Special Editions. I saw only SW and Empire from the big screens, damn I hated that I missed Jedi. Even when I had SEs and the originals, I still watched the originals from time to time, but I "protected" them so I didn't watch them as often as SEs.

And if you guys think what a kid like me thinks about SEs an PT... Well, at first I thought that the SEs were cool because of better picture and sound quality like they showed in the featurettes before the movie. I didn't focus to the things they changed. Then I heard about Episode I. I thought why would they make more because the story is complete already. But I got excited about it and I even went to see a movie because I knew they'd show TPM trailer for the first time! Man! When I saw The Phantom Menace, I thought it was kind of cool with all these lightsaber fights, but I never ever thought that it was better than any of the originals. As I grew couple of years older, I was maybe 14, I started to hate it. I thought AOTC was as boring and crappy as it is still to me.
And of course, I absolutely hate this Lucas' tinkering and weird stuff he's come to. I want the real theatrical releases on DVD, dammit! Btw, I've been eagerly waiting for X0 for two years now. I'm so happy when it's launched.
