Here's a little SW mystery (maybe it has been discussed before...i don't know..) When Luke goes into the cave to face the Vader image, we see him in some kind of tunnel with structures that looks like it's something build (specially when le slow motion part begins), i never knew what it was (ancient temple? abandonned base?...) maybe it was explained in the EU? what are your opinions about this?

i think it can be one of two things:-

1. that jedis devised this place and created a temple so young padawans could face their darkest fears

2. or the same as above but its devised to show them the future

either way i believe this was built by the first jedis for training purposes, this could be the reason why yoda went into exile there because he believe in the prophecy that one will bring balance to the force and he went there to wait for luke

I want to say it's the remains of an old Sith temple, and the dark side still lurks there. The sequence where Luke fights himself essentially was the dark side trying to take hold of him, and when Luke won, he got a glimpse of what could be. That's what I make of it anyway.
But I was going to go to tosche station to pick up some power converters!

although i do think the idea of the sith temple is absolutly amazing why would yoda chose to exile himself in a place full of the darkside shurely the sith would sense him and go after him

In the Zahn trilogy, Luke theorizes that a "dark Jedi" lived in that cave before Yoda arrived, and, upon arriving, Yoda killed him. But the existence of a strong presence of both the light and dark side of the force neutralized each other, thus making it a perfect hiding place from the Empire, and it also explains why Luke wasn't able to sense Yoda.

That's exactly the explanation. Though I'll admit I don't know how Kenobi stayed hidden...

Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here, this is the war room!

yep I thought zahn's explanation was convincing about the darkside cancelling out the good.

I suppose Yoda was at the top of the emporers list of jedi he wanted tracked down and killed.

Maybe if Yoda had thought to change his name to Steve, he wouldn't have had to hide out on a slimy mudball.

In my rewrite ideas, I had that as a "cage" for a demon sith long before Dagobah even had a name. Yoda and an ancestor of Skywalker imprisoned it inside. It dreamed of getting revenge and escape. When a young, meek, non-descript astrocartographer found the world...and the cave/cage, he accidently unleashed it and it possessed him. That young astrographer was named Palpatine. I based the demon idea on the end of ROTJ. After the Emperor explodes, this shrieking wind and dark shapes come flying out of the chasm. I know some people don't like this idea, but oh well.

This why Yoda hides there---why would the Sith demon return to someplace it had been imprisoned? It would also explain Palpatine's deteriorating appearance. The possession corrupts the body.

I saw a thread on TF.N boards about this once, and this quote remains the most ridiculous question I've ever seen on a message board:

"How did Yoda know to put the robotic Darth Vader with Luke's face in the cave?"

It amazes me how people with these kinds of questions join message boards for obsessive fans.

OK, a better one. If I was an outside observer seeing Luke attack the fake Vader on the cave, what would I be seeing? Luke waving his lightsaber in the air, halucinating?
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Nobody was really looking for him. Vader had no interest in facing him again or returning to Tattoine ever again, and Palpatine had him written off as no longer an issue and someone who couldn't do anything to hurt him again. In the novelization of ROTS, they say something to this effect, IIRC. By Ep. IV, everyone has Kenobi written off as dead.

Is this official? Wow! i can picture the scene...

imperial officer walks to the Emperor:

"_ hummm Sir?

_ yes?

_ what about this Obi Wan ...Kenobi?

_ oh forget about it! he's no problem...

_ really?

_ what ?

_ well...he's a jedi knight, he's strong with the force, he almost killed your new apprentice and we don't know where he is....

_ listen i have more important things to do, i have to choose the color for the Death Star laser! leave alone!"

No, the worst question Star Wars question I've ever heard has to be (brace yourselves): "Was there a ghost next to Yoda and Obi Wan at the end of Jedi when it first opened." That is scary.

I can easily envision Palpatine's conference about not looking for Obi Wan because he wants to get the right laser color ending up on Robot Chicken.

But I must ask about another scene from Empire. On Cloud City, when Luke followed Leia into the "trap," how did he end up in a different room. They went through the same door.

Take back the trilogy. Execute Order '77

While i'd have to go back to watch the scene & double check that they do, infact, go through the same door, Vader gives his goons the order to "see to it that [luke] finds his way to the carbon freezing chamber" or something to that effect. So i've always assumed they locked all the doors that went anywhere but the carbon freeze chamber & had the other doors open at the appropriate times to "guide" him there.

I'm pretty sure that it said something to the effect that the Emperor doesn't beleive that one or two lone Jedi could do anything to hurt him anymore, and that they would just be content to stay in hiding the rest of their lives. Otherwise, you have the problems of even if Yoda can't be found using the force, why doesn't the empire care to look for him, either?
