I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Is that an extract from the final DVD, because thats the 1st shocker. I had no idea they dubbed that part in the thetrical release. Even the lip sync fits now Any more thought about what i said before about going into marketing at all Jambe?

He he. I was teasing on all levels. That will not make the final cut. And as for marketing? No can do, I am a big Bill Hicks fan

Where'd the idea to dub that over the footage come from? You will of course have this 'teaser' and the previous "Coming October 2006" trailer on the eventual DVD though, right?

I am really looking forward to this. I know everyone keeps asking but when do you think it'll be released? What's left to do (perhaps, you're waiting on some more material)?

Update: I have all the footage I am going to get I think. I am now working through the timeline tidying up and adding the text facts etc. I am also looking at the weaker areas and seeing what I can do. Everytime I watch it I spot something else that can be done. Eventually I will send out copies to my QA team and ready for the final clean up and burn. So I would think the end of the year is still a good target to aim for.

The DVD should contain:

- Montage Main Menu Screen (100%) and Still Sub-menus (0%)
- The full length doco 'Returning to Jedi', including: Cast & Crew Commentary, Behind the Scenes footage (some very rare), Deleted Scene Reconstruction, Outtakes, Text Facts, Alternate Audio, etc (85%)
- 'Coming October 2006' trailer (100%)
- 'Ugly as Sin' Teaser (the inspiration came from Classic Creatures. I just wanted to do something different) (100%)
- Rare footage sequence (Remainder of what was not used in the main doco. If there is room) (40%)
- Reconstructed opening crawl (I bet you can guess which one!) (100%)
- Animatics Comparison (90%)
- Easter Egg (not telling!)
- Cover and Disc Design

This is only a provisional list but it gives you some idea of the work I have done and the work I have to do.

So, I am now about 85% done with the doco itself. Then comes the LONG slog of rendering, transcoding, menu construction and burning.

If Sky is still out there, I would be happy for you to be involved in making the stills for the menu. Alternatively if there is anyone out there that come up with suitable designs, I would be happy to see them. It would be great to tie the menu design in with the case design again.

Made some more progress yesterday. Started on the DVD creation process. Figured I would get the bulk of that done and then return to the main doco for one last look through before I send it out the the QA team. 100% means edited, transcoded and imported into DVD Studio Pro.

- Main Menu Screen (100%)
- Still Sub-menus (80%)
- The full length doco (90% complete, though not transcoded)
- 'Coming October 2006' trailer (100%)
- 'Ugly as Sin' Teaser (100%)
- Restored Music Sequence (100%)
- Rare footage sequence (Remainder of what was not used in the main doco. If there is room) (50%)
- Reconstructed opening crawl (I bet you can guess which one!) (100%)
- Animatics Comparison (100%)
- Easter Egg (100%)
- Cover and Disc Design (0%)

I also managed to hook up with a guy that had some good Mark Hamill commentary. Not a great deal of it, but some good quotes nonetheless. My Yoda pupeteer contact, who I hoped to do an audio interview with is just too busy on location at the moment. So that will not be happening (at least, not for now).

I've also added the 'Restored Music Sequence' to the list above, which I failed to include in my last post. I won't give away the details just yet, but I think its a worth addition to the project.

By the way, I would love to see you guys make some covers for this! If all goes to plan I should have this done in three weeks.

When transcoding from DV to m2v using Compressor I get green corrupted artifacts on the frames where I use the white 'flash fram' transition. This happened on the 'Building Empire' trailer. Anybody know why?

Thanks

I just got some more stuff I have never seen or heard before.

I am in the process of integrating it into the project right now. It shouldn't take too long to do. There are some great bits for the commentary track and some fantastic audio recorded on set which is always a great addition!

As the edited title of this thread says, I am very nearly there, but the festive season is taking it's toll. I am so busy for the next two weeks. I just hope I can get it done.

For those who like a visual progress report, here's the 98% finished timeline:
http://www.zen67493.zen.co.uk/Dec2006_RTJ.jpg

As you can see, there are lots of edits in there. Just so much material to work with! Not enough in some places perhaps. But what is there I am mostly very happy with. I just hope you guys like it as much.

Ciao

nice one Jambe - as ever I'm really intrigued and looking forward to seeing your latest release.

If and when the time comes let me know if you'd like a hand making copies and forwarding them onto people to help get them circulated.

Oh, most certainly not. This is one of the three most exciting things brewing on this board, I'd say. I'm uber-excited!

Absolutely... We've all been on the edge of our seats for this release!

Your sacrifice will be well worth it, Jambe.

For us anyway. LOL

Oh how kind you are!

How about a sneak peak at the first four minutes then!?

Watch it here!

Please note, this is one of the weakest parts of the doco. There is so much more in the rest of it.

Just teasing you lot really. I will be working on it for two further days next week and the same the following week. Basically I hope to have it finished in a fortnight.

I was hoping to get hold of Apple Motion to do some graphics work on it, but I can't seem to find a second hand copy anywhere. If anyone has seen it, please let me know.

Oh and ignore the white banner (it's deliberate for this sneak peak) and the missing quote marks. The subs are a little quick too. Don't worry it's all been fixed since.

This is one of the things I have been most looking forward to in terms of DVD releases (commercial DVDs included) for a while now, if it makes you feel any better.

The clip you showed was great! A couple bits of feedback, though -- I thought two of the subtitles went by too quickly. The first was the "Stage No.6 at Elstree was immense [. . .] sound stage in Europe" one -- if you had left it on for even just another second or two, that would have been great. And since you have a bit of subtitle-less time after the note about the supermarket, it looks like it wouldn't be too big a deal to add that time. Also, the three-liner about the telepathic exchange seemed to be on-screen for a second or two too short.

Maybe I'm alone in thinking this -- I trust your judgment, my friend. Please do what you think is best. And this is not criticism in a negative way; just some feedback -- I loved what I was seeing! I can barely believe that this is one of the weakest parts -- if that's the case, we are in for something even more amazing than I had been expecting.

I can't wait . . . !

Take care,
Sojourn

Nice work on this! Can't wait to see the completed project! I hope when this is available someone can at least do a NTSC conversion this time. Perhaps someone can do a trilogy cover box art for Deleted Magic, Empire and Jedi as well.
