Now that's something I'd definitely like to see! I'd wanted to put something like that together for Starkiller Ranch but the dialogue and lip sync just made it impossible. I'm very interested in seeing how you pulled it off.

And Grievous in BotF, eh? Very interesting...

I'm still of the opinion the Grievous character would be best salvaged by making him and Darth Maul one in the same. This would of course require a voice actor for Grievous in Episode III to tie it all together, but if executed professionally I think it would work wonderfully.

This Special Edition of BOTF sounds interesting, but worrisome as well. I'm a die hard OT fan, hated Episode's 2 and 3. Episode 1 was questionable as backstory, but it had its moments. John William's Duel of the Fates, Pod race, Lightsaber duel, Spectacle of it all. BOTF added much needed depth, making Jar-Jar Binks the scoundrel archtype, tieing the Kolbalt Crystal to the story, and removing everything that distracted from the Star Wars atmosphere. Putting in CGI Yoda, alien dialogue tracks, and more background on the Sith sounds great. What I don't like is the inclusion of unnecessary characters and dialogue in order to match up with the PT. I understand your trying to tie the prequels together, but these additions are distracting and bring the quality of the film down. If I may make a suggestion, consider releasing two versions of the special edition, one is to improve the film on its own terms, the other is meant to consolidate it with the entire saga. This way everybody wins, even PT haters like myself.

Or you could check out some of the work that is going in the Starkiller Ranch thread. It has the same goal of consolidating the saga.

Why didn't the idea of using KOTOR languages ever materialize? The dialogue is very professionally done and there is a lot of variety. The Neimodians can use the Duros language (they are related species) and the Gungans can use a language from one of the aquatic races. This is the best possible option available and I would love to see it used.

From everything I was able to observe, every alien race in Kotor spoke like 7 interchangable lines all at pretty set emotional inflections.
It didn't seen to have nearly the type of material that would be needed to make something that would come off halfway decent, especially over 3 films.
If someone has some archive of that material for me to look over again, I'll take a look, but from what I saw in the game, it seemed like it would have been a pretty hard sell to make work.

Words cannot describe how interested I am in that. Is it still a posibility?

Yeah, I've been going through reconstructing it shot for shot over a few years, since my dumb ass never saved all the files last time. I've made a few tweaks here and there, adding a shot here, trimming a shot there, etc.
I always wanted to have the shot of Watto from the theatrical podrace where he cheers "Sebulba!" and completely forgot about it when I cut the sequence the first time, so I put that back in. The few changes in the cut sitting on my hard drive now are minute ones like that. Some of the dialogue has been tweaked to sound a bit less formal. Altering "cannots" to "can'ts" and few things like that, just to make things sound a little more natural. There are also a few of the SE shots already dropped in. The submarine actually explodes when it hits the bottom of the waterfall. The Republic cruiser at the end is a blueish color instead of pink.
I also re-worked the reversed dialogue so that there isn't any (or at least very little, a sylable here and there) Spanish left that isn't reversed.
There are rough shots of Grievous and things like that, but those are still on the "to do" list and probably wouldn't go into a version until after the boxed set comes out next year, to take advantage of additional deleted scenes and things like the cgi Yoda.

How's the whole grievous thing coming along? And I still never see you on aim.

The new crawl looks good, but I still think the reverse language tracks are distracting.

Not that you would want to use this solution, MagnoliaFan, but the absolute best Nemoidian dubbing I've seen utilized the Jewish dialogue of "The Passion of the Christ." InfoDroid made a couple of test scenes with them for Starkiller Ranch and they blended together perfectly. The only downsides of this were 1) Limited resources, and 2) Lack of proper nouns. If someone could find another film with similar language (a difficult task, I know) I really think that would be the perfect way to go with the Trade Federation. I know you're pretty late in the game as far as editing is concerned, but if you have some free time I'd encourage you to experiment with this option just to see what you could do.

MagFan - will you be changing the line 'the droids HAVE been neutralised' to 'the droid ARE being neutralised' - just a really small nitpick as the fight is still going between the Jedi and droids when the drone on the bridge of the ship makes his statement ot the Viceroy.

Also, perhaps the line 'The Jedi have have triggered an alarm in the ventilation shaft' instead of 'they have triggered an alarm in the ventilation shaft' ?

and instead of 'that won't stop them' maybe the line 'that will not stop them' when Viceroy's mate refers to the Destroyers not being able to keep the Jedi from the Bridge ?

^ just an idea mate - am looking forward to seeing your latest work

Well, first I'm putting together a pretty close recreation of the original Balance of the Force, with just a few technical tweaks and minor creative changes, so I'm re-doing the voices in a similar manner to the way they were done before.

For the version that will incorporate the digital Yoda and any other potential changes in the '07 dvd set, along with a lot of new tinkering, I will probably have the original audio and then a new alien dialogue track. I've hunted down TPM in quite a few obscure languages trying to find something I like and just tonight I think I may have found the track I will be using. I'll try to put a sample vid of the new voices to see if anyone has gripes with those, either later tonight or tomorrow.

Edit: False Alarm... I recognise too many words in that language, too.

Do you have any of these obscure language tracks in full? I'd love to sync some obscure languages to my Episode I DVD for a laugh.

That's a nice selection of languages.

Any chance you could PM me about perhaps obtaining one/a few of them?

Magfan,
I didnt want the Clone War to get jealous of BOTF...
I was curious if you planned to alter any of it considering how Episode 3 turned out. Is leaving Dooku as a wild card still possible since the beginning of Sith pretty clearly establises him as a darksider? Is the orange blade going to stay?

I guess this might be asking too much about details regarding your edit of Ep 3.....any idea on an ETA for that?

with best regards,
Stossmo

I apologize for coming to this thread so late, but I'm just now getting into the whole fan edit thing. Reading through these forums, it seems like there's quite the community going on (though I don't even wanna ask what's up between this place and that "other place").

But anyway, I've been looking high and low for copies of MagnoliaFan's edits. I understand they're in the process of being revised, but I'd really like to see the originals. I haven't had any luck, however... might someone be so kind as to shoot me a PM and point me in the right direction? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!
ron

I'd like to see these myself. Deciding between Blance and Vergence myself (hate having to spend days with a torrent only to like a different version later, lol).

Both of MagFan's edits have shown up very recently at Fanedited, which has rapidshare links to both films in their DVD incarnations, as opposed to the rather poor xvid's that I think are still up at myspleen (except that the spleen is down, again.)
