Supposedly, the entire "saga" will be released in a large boxed set next year (and to be foolishly optimistic, I hope that Lucas is testing the waters with this release to see if a better OOT release will be in that boxed set...but I somehow doubt it), coontaining Lucas's "final" versions of all six films, and a plethora of extras.

I was really surprised that we didn't see one last christmas. I mean it seemed like a natural given Lucasfilm's track record and pretty much every trend in the home video market. I wonder what happened?

I'd buy another set of Star Wars if it was in Hi-Def with the OOT and a plethora of bonus features. But not if the PT is with it. I don't need those pieces of shit too.

No need to flame the PT. If you dislike it so, post in another more appropriate thread. Some of us enjoy OT as well as the PT.

In the PT the force is missing and it does not look like star wars

It is surprising that GL hasn't brought out a Prequel Trilogy boxset yet - though am pretty sure there'll be one available within the next couple of years...

i don't think a box set is coming anytime soon considering lucas is still tinkering with his prequel films, and 2007 will see episode one in 3-d with the all digital yoda. 2008 attack of the clones, 2009 revenge of the sith. with lucas one a year policy that means his super duper special editions 3-d version of the older trilogy will be 2010 a new hope, 2011 empire strikes back, and 2012 return of the jedi.

he still has yet to decide on the new format war but I bet because of 20th century fox it will be blu-ray

and also because he had been the main force behind pioneering the digital film revolution and dlp technology.

i'm pretty sure they'll still be a dvd six box set though, if not it will be skipped and jump to the blu ray player, but since he likes to go to the well as many times as people will buy them, i think he will squeeze all the cash he can out of us. My advice is you already own them don't bother buying them again unless he releases the oot in anamorphic widescreen with 5.1 and digital restoration, and all the old documentaries and deleted scenes.

That would be so cool. *daydreams*

Yeah, I agree with SpecialEditions. How many of those would fly off the shelves? Seriously tho, unless GL actually puts out the REAL original trilogy the way it *should* be released I doubt anything Star Wars will ever fly off shelves again. What a funny world. The most popular movies of all time are not available in a modern format. Ludicrous.

Blu-ray is the best, but I doubt it will win...even tho many hope it will. It'll end up like Beta. The better version gets screwed over in favor of cheapness. Blah!

Beta failed because it was proprietary Sony technology. Blu-ray is open to any company that wishes to join the Blu-ray disc association.

Yeah, that is kind of stupid. The whole 3D thing doesn't seem to be up to speck yet. People who went and saw Superman Returns in 3D weren't all that wow'd with the effects. You could hear sighs as the signal for the glasses to be put on flicked on. And of course, 3D gives me headaches personally (and I'm not the only one), so starting with the PT is going to hurt. And by the time the OT hits the IMAX theaters, people will have been turned off to the idea.

I'm not looking forward to a prequel boxset or an Ultimate Pants Crapping Lollapalooza 25 Disc Super Edition Saga Box! I already own the prequels on DVD. I don't need a box to put them in. Considering the DVDs of them I already own are the closest we're ever going to get to the theatrical editions of the prequels, any new releases are just going to be worse. And I'm certainly not going to buy a box set of all the movies, not even if the OT is anamorphic, because I refuse to buy 3 movies I already own and don't want anymore copies of just to buy three movies that I own several times in a format that's finally acceptable. But since many Star Wars fans are stupid (you can decide for yourselves if present company is excluded) and will readily buy up any new release with zeal, even if it's not worth it, I'm sure it'll fly off the shelves.

I, for one, will not be joining in on the Pants Crapping Lollapalooza.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

By the time a high-def version of the saga is released, the format war will be long settled. DVD had been dominant for years before Lucas got around to releasing the '04 DVD's. I don't see him getting in any hurry to come out with hd versions any time soon.
But yes, I would love to see the old documentaries get an official release, but I doubt that will ever happen. But maybe we will get some more bonus material at least.

Looks like lot of typing ahead of me again.....

Of course Lucasfilm will release a huge box set version. They're not stupid, just like the CPU-wars a few years ago, the companies are releasing everything in small steps so as to make more money for themselves and the development of the new, improved and acceptable versions.

Personally I think Lucasfilm should be ashamed at the 2004 release though..... I mean since around 2001 DVD manufacturers have been looking at ways to make especially box sets enticing to the consumer. Look at the Indiana Jones or Godfather box sets. They look good and definitely look like the studio did more than just bung the stand-alone versions in a piece of cardboard.

Films like Lord of the Rings immediately saw the benefit of this type of marketing, I mean those collectibles are really quality items that add to the consumers enjoyment of the product. Star Wars the films that changed the world of filmmaking just get a two-piece cardboard sleeve. Hurray Lucasfilm (NOT!!!). Unfortunately since the studios moved into the hands of corporations somewhere in the sixties, they aren't really concerned about quality just about making the next hit film which make millions for them. Somewhere along the line we seem to forget that this system is only fair when you are on top of it. We little people are being given our little snippets of film to keep us occupied so we don't remember about the things that are wrong around us. Starting to sound a bit like Star Trek but.... it should have a valid point.

Sometime in the next decades there will come along a new film that will push the boundaries of possibilities and vision, and only the versions we ourselves choose to preserve will be remembered,

Choose wisely....
Sorry about the mess....

I don't see why he didn't just release the movies on DVD individually, then release a box set, then release a "special edition" box set with all six movies and then, a year later, finally release a "super special edition" with the box set and countless hours of extras and the original, unaltered trilogy as a bonus (and charge twice as much as the last set).

I mean, has he gone soft over the years? What happend?
