Any Chess Players Out There?

Author
Time
I've always enjoyed playing. Started in Middle-School, although I pretty much beat everyone I played in my family. Only ever had one person who challenged me for real...

If you do play, are you ranked?
Ever play in any tourneys?

I'VE BEEN PLAYING SINCE I WAS SEVEN YEARS OLD. MY MOM TAUGHT ME HOW TO PLAY. I BEAT HER AFTER THE THIRD GAME. SHE NEVER PLAYED CHESS WITH ME EVER AGAIN. MY BIGGEST CHESS ACCOMPLISHMENT WAS BEATING MY DAD. I REMEMBER BEATING SEVERAL PEOPLE IN JUST THREE MOVES.

It always takes me an hour to finish a chess game - I'm always trying to keep at least three moves ahead - but I don't play it very often because I always get my ass kicked at the end of that hour anywhere...

My best moment was playing my idiot brother a few years ago. I made a couple of major mistakes and he made me pay by invading deeply into my territory. I usually like to be on the offensive, but I completely pulled back and started concentrating on nothing but pushing him out and ignoring his side of the board. It paid off and I beat him in a shocker. I loved the look on his face.

Always remember: Control the center of the board and you control the game. By this I mean if you can cover more central squares than your opponent, you've got them (at least for the time).

I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS TWELVE MY LITTLE BROTHER, MY DAD, AND MY UNCLE WERE PLAYING RISK. MY BROTHER STARTED GETTING TIRED AND WANTED TO QUIT, SO I TOOK OVER FOR HIM. ALL HE HAD WAS AUSTRALIA. IT WAS THE GREATEST RISK COMEBACK OF ALL TIME. I WAS ABLE TO WIPE OUT MY DAD'S ASIAN FORCES ALONG WITH EUROPE. I THEN CRUSHED MY UNCLE IN THE AMERICAS. MY UNCLE WAS SO PISSED THAT A TWELVE YEAR OLD HAD BEATEN HIM AND WON THE GAME THAT HE VOWED TO NEVER PLAY THAT GAME AGAIN. MY DAD WAS SO PROUD OF ME.

Heh. I loved the PC version of Risk that came out around 96. It's a classic. That's why I enjoy the Rome: Total War series so much. It's like Risk on steroids. I've gotten more time out of that game than any other in my history, with the exceptions of the original Super Mario Bros and Legend of Zelda for NES.

A friend and I played a week and 1/2 game of Monopoly once. At the end we were so strung out from it that we both just threw all the pieces off the board and up-ended it, declaring a draw. Ahhhhhhh....good times.

I love it, but I'm not so good at it. I can beat amateurs, but I can't compete against people who play it for some time.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

I played a week long game of Poleconomy once. We decided to play until we broke the bank. With six players, playing a government game, it took forever.

I used to play chess, but I was never very good at it. I play Go now.

I must confess that I never was terribly interested in chess as a young 'un. However, now that it's the only game on my phone, I'd really like to know how to play.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

I like chess, but I can't play too well. I won a few games on the chess team in highschool though.

I suck besides being able to predict the game in my head.

seeing and planning the moves ahead have been my weakness.

Just never been my style of play. I can't concentrate on it. On the other hand, you'd wonder why I'm so good at Go but not chess. Weird.

I love chess. But I don't get to play much anymore, besides playing Chessmaster on the computer. I used to be better than I am now. Out of practice.

I dig chess, although I am an average player at best.

War does not make one great.
