Isn’t the Rey movie episode 10 in all but name. But they are tiptoeing around it. I guess you can consider Starfighter to be episode 9.5 since it is post Rise of Skywalker.

And Mando and Grogu is Mandoverse.

Yeah but that’s if the Rey movie ever materialises. I could imagine them just dropping the episode/trilogy format.

I disagree I’d like to see another Star Wars within my lifetime. Who knows if I have decades left, god willing. But I may not. I’d like to enjoy life and smell the roses, so to speak, while I still can.

I’d also like an X-men film I don’t have to wait another ten years for, and can we please get a Star Trek film.

If they aren’t making that Rey movie please let Daisy know and stop gaslighting the fans, and KK please retire.

I’m somewhat pleased there was a new Superman film, can’t wait for a Supergirl and Wonder Woman movie. And another James Bond. I’m even looking forward to the Hunt For Gollum but have no idea what to expect with Andy Serkis not Peter Jackson directing. Looking forward to Avengers doomsday, maybe I’m setting myself up again, Disney is known to disappoint. With few exceptions Like Alien and Predator, and Planet of the Apes franchises. Fox films.

Will there be another JJ Abrams Star Trek, that is as nebulous as Disney and The Rey Skywalker movie. I don’t hardly trust Simon Kinberg with anything that is not X-men related. Even there he had his hands in X-men The Last Stand and Dark Phoenix and 4-Tastic. With Star Wars and Star Trek, please.

Seems to me that whatever Rey’s next thing ends up being, it’ll be released as Episode 10. Disney consider her an asset to use, but slapping a number on is an easy way to generate more interest. By the time the film happens it will be a decent gap since the last one too.

Simon Kinberg is such a hack though. Surely Star Wars can do better. I can’t believe he continues to fail upward.

I dunno, maybe combining Obaid-Chinoy’s and and Kinberg’s and Levy’s takes on whatever they want the “post-saga” story to be could end up as a good thing. We all complained that George surrounded himself with yes men when he made the prequels, but I don’t exactly consider the sequel trilogy the most collaborative project either.

Look at how Cameron handled the Avatar sequels. The writers broke the story together and then were each assigned an individual film for which to write a screenplay. That would’ve been a great way to go about making the prequel and sequel trilogies, I’d only add that each film should’ve had a different director.

Rogue One and Solo, messy as they are, are examples of how intervention from the producers can actually turn out well. The difference this time around will be that rather than retooling these films after principle photography, they go through different writers and directors before greenlighting anything. That’s not necessarily a bad approach, it’s just that they’ve had to spin their wheels with the endless streaming shows in the meantime which has been incredibly hit or miss.

That actually brings me to what I’d do, and it’s what I think George should’ve done with the franchise after the mid-80’s. He actually had the right idea with the Ewoks tv movies and the Ewoks and Droids animated shows. Those all told fun side stories that would never contradict a continuation of the main saga. I know George claims he’d decided in ‘83 to officially make VI the end of the story and didn’t change his mind until decades later, and I’ll take his word for it, but either way he should’ve just stayed away from the post-RotJ era altogether and not authorized any media telling the further adventures of our heroes. As big of a deal as Episode VII was when it actually ended up getting made, it could’ve taken on mythic status had the fans been left without the pre-existing old “legends” EU to compare it against.

Instead, and this applies to the current state of things as well, jumping back into the past and telling stories set thousands of years earlier and sticking only to that era would’ve been a much bolder move. I know that’s antithetical to how franchises operate, yeah you always want to please these fans and those fans, but storytelling shouldn’t get sacrificed on the altar of marketability.

If they’re really going to make Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi film, I’d almost say just make that the new saga and stick to that era. They’ve had so much time to figure out the Rey movie that I’d just say make it the definitive epilogue to I-IX and leave that time period in the galaxy far, far away alone forever.

Yeah, but they had the High Republic era and project luminous and after five years they’ve abandoned it. On the heels mind you, of the Acolyte being cancelled. There are no films in that era. I don’t see what placing a film at the Dawn of the Jedi, how that somehow miraculous fixes the fan discontent with Disney. The lack of adherence to canon, or any sense they’ve planned or outlined anything, have finally figured out how to build out a story and do world building. and aren’t just throwing stuff at a wall to see what sticks. Like a blindfolded person throwing darts trying to hit a bullseye.

They always do random things then try to get the comics writers and novelists to fill in the blanks, or to get the story group to claim it all makes sense. Of course we have a plan, right. I don’t believe that with somehow Palpatine returned.

I feel bad for the Disney EU writers who have to retcon or make sense of one of the bad movies. Where the director didn’t do his homework. And the story group allowed them to do whatever they wanted. With no regard to the legacy of SW, or its characters, or its own separate internal laws of how it all works.

Will Dave have the ability to put projects into motion like greenlight movies, or is he in the same terrible position as Kennedy having to deal with the whims of Bob Iger? All that corporate planning and synergy hasn’t worked well for Star Wars when it comes to the screenplays. Or the characters. With few exceptions of course. Lucasfilm cancels far more projects than it makes.

I guess it all comes down to how well Mando and Grogu and Starfighter do at the movies. If they make money enough for more films to be made.

Nothing will change.

I prefer them to reveal that Han and Leia had twins, a son and a daughter, before Kylo was born and that they’ve been in the outer rim dealing with other things, only to have them reveal themselves. On top of that, a series about Luke, Leia and Han, filling out their characters after the OT events and softly retconning the ST characterizations, so the ST still happened, but what their characters meant and were doing are revealed to not be what we thought then.

A pitch I’ve been piecing together for Luke’s backstory, as a connection to that series or something connected to the Rey movie, that I thank God for the ideas for, if He wills, is:

Luke agrees with the jedi rule of no attachment, but he perceives that the jedi were disconnected and too fearful of allowing their members to have lives and partners and families based on the idea that they could turn to the dark side, so Luke uses the rules and pursues training to assist his students to engage in healthy connections rather than attachments.

Luke raised his daughter Ana with Mara for years, before he convinced her to go into hiding to protect her. Feeling responsible for his wife and child, feeling like he has to be better than Anakin his dad, Luke is desperate to not allow his wife and child to be harmed because of him or his actions, so when they go into hiding (from who, I don’t know, maybe Snoke or someone else relevant to more present day stories), Luke is torn up and in conflict about not being there for his child and wife because his dad wasn’t there for him and he feels responsible and like he has to fix whatever problem is happening so he can be with them.

Luke he senses Snoke’s influence on Kylo, so he reaches into Kylo’s mind to find out the answers and (because Kylo knows about Luke’s wife and daughter and that he put them into hiding, letting everyone think they were killed, which is why Leia and Han are so sympathetic to Luke, not hating him, because Luke did tell them what he did in the past) he sees that Kylo could lead to them being in danger, this fear and attachment to his wife and daughter and the idea that he has to correct his dad’s mistakes and be better, leads Luke to pull out the lightsaber to protect them in that moment.

After that event, Luke found that Kylo had killed his older teens/adult students, leaving the children alive, so Luke, feeling responsible for the lives of these children and wanting to protect them, hid them across the galaxy to ensure their safety.

This would all re-contextualize Luke’s character in TLJ, by revealing he was in hiding to prevent the children from being found (maybe a part of that being Luke’s wife Mara and his child/maybe daughter Ana), and because he did resent the jedi for using padawans as apart of being soldiers.

That, plus, he feels he failed because of his arrogance in that he thought he could correct his perception of the errors of the jedi by trying to avoid what he saw as their mistakes, but in doing so Luke left himself open to manipulation and all his late teens/adult jedi padawans were killed, and being separated from his daughter and wife to protect them as well, making Luke feel depressed, as he feels like no matter what path he chooses, the lives of those he wants to protect will be lost, which is why he’s so defeated in TLJ, because he feels trapped between a rock and a hard place, trying to protect the children, but also wanting to help others and his sister, and fearing training Rey.

Leie would struggle with her connection to Vader and what that means for her and her more aggressive personality traits, struggling with the idea that a monster is apart of her, someone she personally hates and the fear of becoming someone driven by pain and hate, while she hyper focuses on imperial remnants.

Han would be becoming a spy working in the criminal underworld and the idea of being a hero still versus being a parent, as that’s something he doesn’t fully understand. In this we could do the first official reveal of Han and Leia having twins before Kylo was born. Set it up that Han has anxiety about being a dad, while also establishing Leia is pregnant. End of the arc Han and Leia return home to be met with the twins, and Leia being pregnant is actually about Kylo.

Also, reveal that the first order never actually took over the galaxy (because how would they do that?), they had just enough resources to make a big splash and make themselves look big and intimidating to the resistance as a fear tactic as they spread propaganda about them having taken over the galaxy, when in reality they’d taken over a few passive planets at most. They reigned over the resistance in fear tactics. Few even knew about the first order’s attacks, that’s why no one answered when Leia called for assistance in TLJ, they thought it was a prank call. That’s why they came in TROS, because when people heard Palpatine broadcasting his return people actually thought something was happening.

There. All harsh issues, I think, are patched for the characters and their stories, no longer making them abject failures and keeping the Skywalker family going.

Dave has continued doing Star Wars since 2008. For good or ill he has had a bigger stamp on Star Wars than George Lucas for the last two decades. Lucas having not written or directed a Star Wars since 2005. Filoni been there for over 17 years. 17 years nonstop working in SW.

The prequel trilogy and George stepping away after that to let Filoni run the Clone Wars was ages ago.

Then he wanted to do live action Star Wars like a tv producer and have other people write and direct it, Star Wars underworld.

Then not being able to get Underworld made and not thinking he could adjust to the coming streaming landscape he sold to Disney.

Oh I got these treatments In a drawer, maybe Iger will give me 4 billion for them. That is what I think he may have thought.

Apparently most of the concepts from Underworld already got mined for all the Disney movies and shows we’ve been seeing this whole time anyway.

Yes, some of that may be true with the upcoming Darth maul Shadow lord. It does appear to feature Darth Talon. Lucas sequel being mined.
