Flash Gordon - The Greatest Adventure of All!

In 1979, Samuel Peeples wrote a TV movie for NBC that was very faithful to Alex Raymond’s original comic strip, but was deemed too expensive for live-action. So, the script was done as an animated movie instead. The network was so impressed by the results that the film was then cut up, re-edited, and censored into a Saturday morning cartoon for kids. As a result, no HD version of the original film exists.

There’s a lot to love in this film, likely because of how old fashioned and cheesy it is. My students have inexplicably turned out to be big fans of Flash Gordon’s goofy charms so I wanted to spruce it up a bit by trimming the fat, ramping up the pace, and re-cutting it into an old movie serial of six episode that are each around 10ish minutes long.

There are optional English subtitles included as seperate SRT files if you want them. I’ve also provided an ESL reader that combines elements of various versions of Flash Gordon. Everything is in the same folder as all my other edits. If you don’t already have a copy, please start a chat with me. As always, any suggestions are welcome.

Here’s a quickie I made using Robb Pratt’s animation with The Lonely Ones’ cover of the Queen Flash Gordon theme.

Quality mate - I really enjoyed that, nice one. 👍
