That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking. The special editions have always been there, in HD, with more detail than any official or unofficial release of OUT, but that doesn’t mean they looked good. The 2004 release was scanned at a lamentable, primitive 1080p, with poorly saturated colors that didn’t necessarily look vibrant, bad graduates, and with fake grain. And the 2019 Special Edition, although in 4K with more detail and a cleaner image, looks washed out, especially with the very abusive DNR that eliminated many details, with that static digital fake grain, and almost monochromatic colors. It’s curious, they’ve always been the only high-definition versions of Star Wars used to reconstruct The OUT, but now that The OUT will be restored with a perfect procedure, a large budget, color references, and utmost care, we’re going to have the originals in the highest quality, and the SE is going to be the one that comes off badly this time because of the two previous releases.

Surely, Lucasfilm is aware of these leaks by now. Why would they not have fixed the auto-uploader and made everything private by now?

I always found the “some guy randomly saw the videos in his YouTube recommendations” story a little fishy.

Seems more likely to me this was leaked by someone working on the restoration.

I think it’s kind of funny the 1997 edits on home video are stuck on primitive telecine to VHS, laserdisc and vcd. There is no DVD.

Lucas original vision never was on anything of higher quality except 35mm theater prints.

I don’t see Disney preserving those or the theatrical Phantom Menace.

They will do the originals only.

They must still have the filmout tape which is the completed and finished negative. And the print master used to create cinema release prints. And the later DI which likely reflects the changes made for the 3D release and the 2011 Blu-Ray.

There’s a fair few of us that have been monitoring the channel since TGWNN first discovered it. The channel has a tendency to upload, then deactivate, then reactivate when another upload is done. The original ALI YT channel was deactivated for quite a while and a new channel sprang up, but then that channel was also deactivated. It was replaced by another channel, which is still active today, and continues to upload.

We have seen countless notes about revisions to their auto upload script, we are on v10 now and it actually seems to be less secure than the earlier versions as there have been an insane amount of video and audio clips released these past few weeks.
