Imgur viability

Owing to problems with UK regulations, Imgur has stepped away from Britain.
Several forums have already requested members no longer post images from there.
Any thoughts from the Top Hands?
I only have 11 images linking there, all gifs.

I’m long since retired as a ‘Top Hand’ 😉 - though for me…

As someone in the UK and posting on here a while I’ve hundreds, if not thousands, of images linked on here from Imgur… in the various Indexes, About, Help, ‘How Do I Do This on the OT?’ and General Assistance sections, video thumbnail images, ‘behind the scenes of the OT’ making of image threads, various ‘image’ threads, a good number of DVD & blu ray covers - USB box covers and the like, as well as hosting some images from the GFFA for other less technically-minded members here, etc.

I don’t have the energy or inclination to change them (let alone the time)… though have offered up the solution of using a free and easy-to-use VPN to be able to still see the images for anyone in the UK. The free Opera browser itself has a very simple VPN on/off ‘switch’ built-in - that allows people in the UK to still see any images linked from Imgur. 👍

Hopefully the UK Govt will see some sense and amend the somewhat clunky / overbearing / free from judicial oversight Online Safety Act (though I doubt it - I’m probably in denial considering them amending something like that) - so it does seem Imgur stepping away from the UK is unfortunately not a temporary thing. I’d happily switch to a new and different image-linking platform for future posting of images here - though it could only be a matter of time before others follow Imgur stance - and the same thing happens again.

As far as I’m aware, there are maybe 5-6 regular members here from the UK that post in the main forums (for whatever that is worth).

Sorry for the ramble - that’s just my two penneth.

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

Welcome to the OriginalTrilogy.com | Introduce yourself in here | Useful info within : About : Help : Site Rules : Fan Project Rules : Announcements
How do I do this?’ on the OriginalTrilogy.com - includes info on how to ask for a fan project and how to search for projects and threads on OT•com.

A Project Index for Star Wars Preservations (Harmy’s Despecialized & 4K77/80/83 etc) : A Project Index for Star Wars Fan Edits (adywan & Hal 9000 etc)

Take your time to look around this site before posting… Do NOT just lazily make yet another ‘link request’ post - or a new thread asking for projects.

Thank you.
I backed my gifs to Postimage just in case.
All have been stored in cloud sites for years.
Finding reliable 3rd party file hosting, there’s the problem.
I’ve been with Tinypic, Photobucket, Google (sites RIP), Dropbox (workaround, which I suspect will close one day).
Some members hotlink existing images, which regard as balls. It’s lazy, the images often humongous, and those might disappear in a breath.

I appreciate your phrase, “Hopefully the UK Govt will see some sense …” which made me laugh.
Sense? From governments national, regional, local?
And do you believe in leprechauns, little boy?
The world is mad.
