It’s darkly amusing to me that I’m already reading stuff about this release, like re-composited effects shots and alternate dialogue takes, that means it won’t pass some peoples’ purity test.

Yeah. The Indiana Jones 4K was recomposited according to Damn Fool Idealistic Crusader.

I started a VisComp, Indy was not recomposited, the bluescreen elements have been rotoscoped from the final composite and stretched and warped to cover up the matte lines. It’s hilarious in A/B comparisons.

That’s not what we’re seeing here.

It is also really pleasing to see the quality fan preservations and restorations (not just 4K77/80/83 - but also Harmy’s Despecialized Editions and so many other countless fan-made projects on here for some 20+ years)… looking so close to the actual theatrical release colours, brightness, contrast, and feel of the Original Trilogy films. 👍

No crushed blacks, missing starfields, loss of detail, or ‘blue tints’ for many of the fan preservations (and also fan edits).

I stand corrected. So What they cgi rotocoped them? It’s like having to play Columbo.

I want to say that might have been a Paramount decision and not George or Steven.

They also made a couple fixes to the theatrical version of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, which was completely needless when there was an entirely separate version being prepared in 4k for that exact reason.

I hope they hire Mike Matessino and Neil S Bulk to do the John Williams scores. That would be a dream. But It won’t happen.

You mosey on over to JWFan and the people there who KNOW those folks have been winking and hinting at that exact thing coming for YEARS now, LOL. Long before anything about the restoration was known.

All credit to X for the time, dedication, and energy - in compiling these. And also for their permission to post the screenshots here. 👍

Question: Why does the Luke shot with the Sarlacc say 4K83 v2 but yet it has the Aurora wording on it?

That’s my mistake - apologies. I’ll try to find the correct image and fix that.

Edit: now fixed with the relevant image from 4K83 v2. Nice catch too, digitalfreaknyc. 👍

It’s surely the same Paramount team that felt like they needed to “fix” the theatrical TMP. Using the cleanup tools they had on hand to make VFX decisions to fix “mistakes”, and not doing very well at it.

I hope Neil gets to do the TSWLM soundtrack one day. It’s never gotten a proper release and his work on the La La Land Bond soundtracks is amazing.

New clip just dropped on a new, alternate ALI channel:

Original video is now private. Trying to avoid traffic to the new channel, watch it from this link instead.

Wow. That looks superb. Good to know the ALI restoration work continues.

Nice find and the share, too! 👍

Are they doing the original VistaVision first gen material. Because that would be like Oh my god. You have no idea how many years I’ve wanted to see those scanned at the highest resolution.

Seeing other films restored from VistaVision its quite amazing actually.

And the idea they found all the so-called lost trims and CRI that was claimed to be junked.

Were we lied to or mislead for years. Or did they really not know where all this material was.

Maybe I’ve become too immersed in true crime and the degradation of our society, but my gut tells me this was a cover-up to appease George.

I’m just a simple man trying to make my way in the universe.

Star Wars has 3 eras: The eras are 1977-1983(pre Expanded Universe), (1983-2014) expanded universe, or (2014- now) Disney-bought version. Each are valid.

My movie reviews aren’t AI, they’re just written by someone who’s Neurodivergent. If you don’t like them, then simply don’t read them.

By the way, did anyone backup the Vimeo stuff?

I asked this; no one answered. I assume this means “Yes but we don’t want to say so”

Yes, it’s been backed up.

Any chance of this being shared?

Thank you for posting that link, Benjamin K.
