Wait, so you guys are actually confirming it all? Is there more than just what’s in that reddit thread. Honestly this 50th anniversary announcement was odd from the start (“1977 classic”)…

i still can imagine if disney released a 6 disc star wars episode 4 50th anniversary

earth 1 nowadays kinda reminds me of the star wars multiverse

there are a lot of good topics in this forums

Well if you’re worried about leaving breadcrumbs now is the time to clean them up before it’s too late… before someone claims everyone got fired and the project isn’t going to see the light of day. If you’re actually legit use some common sense.

I understand you guys don’t trust this account, as this is a new account and so are the other two, so take a grain of salt when I’m making this claim that the stuff I am saying is credible to an extent. This might be my last message on the matter because I do not want to derail this thread with unneccesary weird shenangians of whistleblowers, just discussion on the Original Trilogy’s 50th Anniversary.

I agree - seemingly both AI bots or attention seekers - and not in connection with the actual group.

For what it is worth… I vouch for you - I am aware of you and that your posts are genuine. 👍

Hopefully the mods agree - and will remove both their posts, if so.

The leaks on the OOT restoration have gone public - the cat is well and truly out of the bag on that - yet there is nothing really to say further on the matter… until there is an official announcement / statement.

Until then, any further discussion on the restoration is more likely to be pouring more fuel on the fire. Just my two penneth, but yeah… we’d all be better off simply discussing the Original Trilogy’s 50th Anniversary in here. 👍 (I know… no chance of that!)

We prayed this would not get as much attention that it has got but what most of you have seen is breadcrumbs. There is a tiny group of us who have seen a lot more that has not been leaked thanks to connections and know this is happening for real. We cannot show or tell anything else and have to be so so careful even with our friends on here which kills us. We have no choice because if moles or double agents sneak in then everything might get cancelled and the unaltered original trilogy will never be seen in quality it deserves. We ask you please stop talking about this on public boards and keep it on here only so this does not spread. The tiny group of us have joined with different group who have got us more connections and we are all at risk and some who are working on the project too. The project log files did not leak like videos did we managed to get them thanks to informant but had to change some things so we created Arurora Light Imageworks for plausible deniability and legal reasons. We are scared that it can still get traced back to us so please do not put us in danger or the important project!

This logic makes ZERO sense. Why would they cancel a project that they’ve already spent so much money on just because people found out about it? This isn’t a new film.

They’d 100% still release it and anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

Speaking from experience - once it’s out there, it’s ONLY a matter of time until others find out. I’ve been involved in leaks at the highest levels before and this is how it works. People suck. There’s no way of them keeping it internal unless they’re being paid to.

I am in the group and can confirm but cannot start private topics on here. If someone can verify me then start a private topic with me asking the question. I know the answer and we can verify on here and link accounts with Do7. Safety and security is #1.

I think that basing from the leaks publicly available for us, it does seem that the quality, fidelity, clarity and colors seem to surpass any known source of the OT transfers, SE or Otherwise. That was one of my main gripes with the 2019 masters: they were too soft on the fine granular details and seemed to have a wash of DNR layered underneath some frozen/static or artificial grain.

I think that the fan projects and edits of the film (especially those dealing with the theatrical cuts if these will ever make a physical/digital release) will now have to face a new problem…

For the first time in history: We now have to make the SE match the QUALITY of the OOT, especially in terms of the detail, clarity and colors that each transfer clearly lacks in comparison to this new, work-in-progress restoration.

They’re not going to cancel the 50th anniversary because leaks of what they’re doing for it got out years earlier and the primary reaction to it were shrugs and a bunch of people posting weird messages about how they’re probably going to get people fired.

This is kinda what I was talking about earlier: We’ve got what looks like pretty incontrovertible proof that we’re finally getting what we’ve been asking for since 2004, and nobody seems particularly happy about it now that it’s happening, LOL.

I don’t think they’re worried about us anymore, if they ever were. And they’re certainly not going to fire a bunch of folks for accidentally posting quality control clips to YouTube that led to… basically nothing. A couple reddit threads nobody seemed to believe, a YouTube video that not a whole lot of people watched, and pretty much all discussion of it being locked at starwarstrilogy.com and now this thread becoming… whatever’s happening right now in here.

The 50th Anniversary is happening. It’s clearly going to be bigger than one wide release of Star Wars, too. This SHOULD be a pretty good thing, the fact we have a very good sign it’s going to be what we’ve been wanting all this time, but not only is the reaction to all this frankly pretty MUTED, but on top of that it’s still more negative than anything.

I think that’s notable.

I think, given the history of this possibility, skepticism is understandable. Don’t count your eggs until they hatch, don’t celebrate with too much confidence until Disney actually makes it official.

I’m still not convinced and won’t believe it’s real until a release happens.

We go through this like once a decade and no release happens.

The only slight difference is Disney did not own Fox until 2019.

If a release was to happen it would have been planned since 2020 or so.

I’m not saying it isn’t understandable - I’ve been pretty up front all throughout the thread about how I understand the actual decades of habit and/or ritual, coming to bear on a lot of this. I’m not trying to shame people for being skeptical and/or pessimistic.

I’m only really pointing it out as relevant context for why the reactions are muted, and why - with these muted reactions (and attendant weirdness to boot) the insistence on standard leaks about something that’s been in the works for about 3+ years now and is GOING to be a thing in 2027, maybe shouldn’t be treated as an existential threat to the degree people seem to be doing in the two places online centered on the original theatrical cuts.

A company accidentally leaking work-in-progress clips of the restoration to a public youtube channel, especially when reaction to it is basically a blip at most, isn’t going to get the whole thing canceled when it’s been budgeted on a 5yr schedule and 3 of that has already gone forward, and at this point the 50th has been officially announced. I don’t think its a lot of worth in refocusing attention off the actual restoration or the 50th, and onto a mostly non-existent possibility that this leak is going to get everything canceled and ruined.

And further - considering the thread is called “hopes and expectations” I don’t know that expressing or focusing ON hopes and now allowing oneself to HAVE expectations should be such a scary proposition, LOL. It’s the 50th Anniversary! If you’re gonna let yourself hope, why not now? It’s just Star Wars.

To quote Jyn Erso. Rebellion’s are built on hope. I only say that with as much pessimism as I can, in as tongue in cheek A way as I can.

Someone else will say it with conviction. I’m a glass half full/ doubting Thomas on this original trilogy getting restored business.

A physical disc release in Dolby Vision that Sony doesn’t charge a million dollars for in UHD please and thank you. That is what I want. To be able to buy them one time and to not have to buy them again.

It’s darkly amusing to me that I’m already reading stuff about this release, like re-composited effects shots and alternate dialogue takes, that means it won’t pass some peoples’ purity test.

From what I’ve read, it doesn’t sound like they’ve recomp’d anything but simply gone back to the finished VistaVision interpositives.

Even the alternate dialogue takes, while not staying true to how the films were originally heard, are apparently only being used for a new 7.1 track. While that would make the audio less of a strict remaster and more in the nebulous category of “restoration,” the earlier stereo and mono tracks are said to be earmarked for inclusion on any eventual disc release as alternative options.

I was going by this reddit post.

I didn’t get to see the Vimeo links before they were taken down, so I’m not entirely sure what they’re talking about.

Good to hear about the audio stuff.

By the way, did anyone backup the Vimeo stuff?

Yes, it’s been backed up.

The Aurora Light Imageworks (ALI) OOT Restoration : Comparison Images

A comparison gallery; some ALI screenshots - with physical media releases from: 2019 UHD / 4K, 2011 blu ray, & 4K77/80/83…

Note: the screenshots below are from the ALI youtube channel - complete with the usual youtube compression issues - so an actual restoration from ALI (if released) may appear superior to the images below. It is also worth remembering these may NOT be the final shots used for this archival project - they are simply screenshots from a ‘Work In Progress’ (WIP).

The ALI videos uploaded to youtube are from restoration work taken using the OCN (Original Camera Negative) - a 6K scan undertaken in ~2022 (6144x2570). Some other high quality sources may have be used as / when required (CRIs, VVIs, IPs, CSMs etc). The video uploads to the ALI youtube channel were then rescaled to 3840x2160 for youtube - so along with the usual youtube compression issues… the comparison images below from the ALI are not shown in their fullest quality.

Please do NOT quote this entire post. It is fairly image intensive - and may affect others with slower internet speeds and limited connections etc (plus it is just bad form in general to quote such a lengthy image post on here). Thank you.

If you are wondering what on earth this is all about… I recommend reading through the entire thread, as well as referring you to fallenorder0392’s clear and concise posts on the leaks issue here and here, as well as my post here.

If you are in the UK… you likely won’t be able to see the above images - or any images from Imgur online at all… which is a pity as many members of this site over the years use Imgur as their image sharing platform of choice. Reasons why you can no longer see images from Imgur in the UK can be found here from Imgur themselves and here at the BBC.

A VPN set to outside the UK may be of assistance in allowing you to see the the above images.

Free and easy-to-use VPN add-ons are available from the Chrome Web Store - or as a Firefox add-on etc. Certain web browsers like Opera have a simple, free, and easy-to-use VPN built-in. 👍

Yeah. The Indiana Jones 4K was recomposited according to Damn Fool Idealistic Crusader.

I remain skeptical but hopeful. They won’t do a total botch job like Maclunky right? or American Graffiti 4K.

Lowry can go under a new name but Lowry will Lowry. Reliance Mediaworks. They did the 4k UHD 2020 edits.

I merely assume the 2012-2013 scan and DNR that was done to it was for the 3D conversion. And they did not have a version pre of the DNR and post processing?

Audio tracks should just be an option for the viewer, anything else is probably harder to avoid.

Author

So they’re doing a big ol’ Atmos remix (using different takes/elements) and then including restorations of the original surround mixes AND the mono?

Can we get an isolated score in there, too?

Because I’m pretty certain they’re going to be remastering (CORRECTLY this time) those, too.

I hope they hire Mike Matessino and Neil S Bulk to do the John Williams scores. That would be a dream. But It won’t happen.
