Wow, really? Where? In what format? Try and find someone influencial and try to convince them to release this for home viewing. 😉
Apologies for the bump, Ripplin - you’re probably already well aware of this below from late 2022, though just in case…
www.youtube.com/watch?v=ig_c0Oa3yIo - 28 minute handheld cam video, from The Spaceshipper youtube channel.
The blurb: 'I just learned that this American documentary film, directed by Academy Award-winning sound designer Ben Burtt and released to IMAX theaters, does not exist on YouTube (nor in video format). So I put online this recording that I did (at 17) at Futuroscope (France), in September 1997.
Because it was a very good documentary on special effects and stop-motion! Some original models had been restored to recreate the opening scene of Star Wars (1977) in IMAX format for this documentary film.
It was narrated by John Lithgow, but unfortunately I only have the French dub. I will add subtitles in 2023.
Sorry for the recording quality 😃 ’

Didn’t know about it. Awesome bump! Thank you! 😄
Those models are impressively huge and detailed.
I was always wondering if the Imax would ever surface for this. The film reels would be massive in size.
All I’ve ever seen were overpriced film cels of the Star Destroyer cut from a print.
Yeah , it would be awesome if those Imax reels ever surfaced or were scanned and released publically ,if only for the implications of fan edits alone ! Imagine how cool those would be . I have the same hopes for the Imax cut of Attack Of The Clones .I saw it at the Imax theater at Navy Pier in Chicago in November of 2002 and it was an awesome experience . Best cut of the movie I have ever seen by far .
^How did it differ from the regular theatrical cut?
