I have Super Star Wars and Super Return of the Jedi, but I've never beaten either of them.

I remember playing Super Star Wars, and being so frustrated of the jawan's walker elevator stage, when I fell over again and had to start all the stage all over again, I just screamed every single curse word I could.

I have to agree with you guys, all three games were as hard as hell.

The interesting point is: As with all Star Wars games, the universe has been expanded for gameplay reasons. But in this case, the universe has become more hostile. A few examples:

Super ANH:

-Once only 2 meters wide, Womprats are now twice your size. And there's even a King Womprat!

-The Sarlacc may not have a beak, but it can now rise 25 feet high and throw fireballs at you!

-Jawas now kidnap robots and their Sandcrawler is a war machine!

-Luke's landspeeder has turbo jet and can now fly into the sky!

-There's giant scorpions in the desert!

-Jawas scour the desert on hoverchairs and throw thermal detonators at you!

-Luke must now rescue C3PO and R2D2 instead of buying them.

-There's a giant lava monster in the sandcrawler!

-R2D2's chess piece now comes to rip you to pieces inside the cantina!

-Now YOU can shoot Greedo! (Just make sure he doesn't shoot you first. )

-There's a gigantic robot in the Death Star's hangar bay!

-Now YOU must deactivate the tractor beam!

Super ESB:

-There's a gigantic probe droid four times the size of a normal one!

-There's a gigantic wampa head with arms but no legs that can freeze you with his breath!

-You can ride a speeder bike inside Echo base!

-What was once a calm, tranquil swamp is now infested with hostile jungle monsters! Luke must now save R2D2 himself and find Yoda while surviving the jungle!

-Chewie must now shoot Ugnaughts to free C3PO!

-Luke now has to fight cloud cars (or are they TIEs?) to reach Cloud City.

-Chewie now goes 1-on-1 with Boba Fett!

-You actually beat Darth Vader and keep your hand! (But then how does Luke find out Vader's his father?)

Super ROTJ:

-The team now flies in a hi-tech Landspeeder to reach Jabba's palace!

-The team must now cross a dangerous canyon to reach Jabba's palace, where the "greeter droid" is now four times your size and electrocutes you!

-You're forced to fight in front of Jabba.

-Luke must now find the Rancor inside a spiky maze.

-The Ewok village is now infested with nasties!

-Luke no longer needs to surrender to Vader, because he now has to fight hulk cyborgs in order to board a shuttle!

-The Shield Generator doesn't need protection. The nasty machines do their job well!

-Once on the Death Star, Luke has to climb a tower full of Imperial nasties!

-The red guards combat you. (They learned how to fight after what happened in ROTS. )

-Now Luke fights and kills the Emperor! (Which is funny, because I thought Luke would turn to the Dark Side if he killed the Emperor. And now how is Vader supposed to redeem himself?)

Another interesting thing is: I loved Super ROTJ, and asked for it as a present one time. But instead, I got Super ANH, and ROTJ on video. I still have those to this day.

Shhh! There's a cliff on Tatooine where if you jump off into the chasm, you land near a cave full of extra lives. You have to sacrifice a life to escape but you gain more lives repeating this several times.

Ooh, yeah, totally remember that, and totally hated it. I don't think I ever got past the lava monster boss inside the sandcrawler.

I did finish Super Star Wars, after lots of screaming and cursing. Now, you guys can say all you want, but boy that game sucked. Games aren't supposed to be infuriating and frustrating like that! And I don't remember a scene from Star Wars in which Luke had to kill EVERY SINGLE THING THAT MOVED in the cantina, shooting 5 times a second!

Never played the other games, SESB and SROTJ. Don't really want to. SSW was traumatic enough.

Anyone know with all the emulators and old games available, are there 'automatic play' sessions being made somehow? what i mean by 'automatic play' is there a way to watch the game complete itself without actually having to play. i personally suck at these games but i'd like to watch it once just to see what was involved to solve these games. I remember hearing about speed rounds of one of the Mario games, is that being done elsewhere?

No, no... GTA is a hard game... Super ESB is just frustrating... It dosen't matter if you play it 1000 times, it's as hard as if you played only once.

I have all three of those games. I played those all summer long the summer of 1997. God I loved those. Me and my brother would just sit in his room and play those three games. My favorite was ESB and ROTJ for some reason. I never beat them, but my brother did.

Ahh...memories.

Care to list the other 2 you’re thinking of mate?

Is one of them Jet Set Willy on the commodore64 or spectrum? I spent hours, if not days, as a kid trying to complete that - only to enter a room ‘wrong’ and lose all my lives. A little frustrating in that it took around 5 hours to complete the game - and no saves or time to rest etc…

As for the Super Star Wars series - bloody difficult but do remember them as highly addictive games 😃

I would probably put Ninja Gaiden and Probotector (I think the Yanks call it 'Contra') up there. Never owned Probotector, but I managed to finish Ninja Gaiden 3 times with all the scarabs. So hard to push through, but once you figure it all out, it is so rewarding. Still haven't tried 'Master Ninja' level yet, and NG Black hasn't come out in Australia yet either.

Where there any games based on The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. I remember a pod-racing one thats it???

I would hazard a guess they were actually more entertaining than the actual films and probably better

There was a TPM game for PC/PS2, but it wasn't really that great. There were also lots of spin-offs for TPM and AOTC, like "Clone Wars", "Bounty Hunter", "Starfighter", and "Racer".

"Super Bombad Racing", anyone?

Most of the AOTC spin-offs were pretty cool.

The ‘Super Star Wars’ Trilogy of games…

LucasArts’ Super Star Wars games are notable for retelling the entire original movie trilogy in the form of a SNES adventure. Super Star Wars was released in 1992 - with ‘Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi’ coming out the following years.

At the time, it had been nine years since the last Star Wars movie entry and we were still years away from the Special Editions or Prequel Trilogy. Fans were still hungry for more Star Wars, and they got it in the comparatively bonkers narrative of Star Wars: The Super Edition…

Somewhat unsurprisingly, the Super Star Wars Trilogy of games nearly made their way onto PC back in the mid-1990’s:-

Super Star Wars (PC/DOS) 1996, LucasArts’:-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62o-ST0iAAw - 82 minute video at the Major Thriftwood youtube channel.

The blurb: ‘A PC port of Super Star Wars was in the works since 1994, by Danish game company Brain Bug and produced by Softgold. The game was almost completed, and was well into the playtesting phase, but in 1995 LucasArts decided to halt the development and cancel the release.’

However, the trilogy of games are now available to play on the PC (officially) - via Antstream Arcade:-

If only…

It seems the games were also available on the GameBoy - with ‘Super Return Of The Jedi’ also available on the GameGear…
