THE Most Awesome Scene in Star Wars

Author
Time
In my opinion, THE most awesome scene in any Star Wars movie is when Yoda lifts the X-Wing out of the swamp.

"I don't believe it."

"That, is why you fail."

To me it demonstrates the power and glory of the Force over doubt and seemingly overbearing obstacles. I am on cloud nine every time I see it.

What's your favourite scene?
MTFBWY. Always.

For me it is a tie between the opening shot of ROTS and the twin sunsets scene in ANH.

I really really love all the Tatooine part of ANH (even the SE scenes).

I also love all the ESB duel between Vader and Luke! It's full of darkness, and I like that!...

And, just cause it was my favourite SW scene when I was kid - I was very impressed ! - it's the Rancor scene in ROTJ. The creature design is excellent, and it's surely one of the most scariest scenes in the saga!

Return of the Jedi:

Palpatine electrifying Luke to death, Luke calling out for help, Vader considering what to do, and ultimately throwing Palpatine into the pit, saving his son, redeeming himself, and restoring balance to the force.

I think I may be most partial to the Carbon Freezing scene ... and Chewie's performance stands out the most. Watch that scene again from Chewie's perspective and it'll hit an entirely new emotional level.
I am fluent in over six million forms of procrastination.

All my favorite scenes are from ESB, can't really pick one.

The Vader/Luke battle, inside and outside.

The Falcon being chased through the Asteroid field.

Yoda and Luke on Dagobah.

mine is in ROTJ where Luke and Han are about to be dumped into the pit of Carkoon and then Luke
Grabs his saber and cuts the crap out of Jabba's minions!

This is why:
Firstly, the dark times came upon the galaxy with the jedi diying (in Ep3) and being excecuted.
There was no ACTUAL showing of the Jedi in action (save the Obi-Vader-rematch in IV) and nothing
really happened with the Jedi at all...
...but then the galaxy witnesses The Return of the Jedi in all of it's former glory! Luke is now a Jedi Kinght and we for the first time
since Episode III see the justice of the galaxy coming back and that gives the new hope to the republic and jedi again.
It's more effective listening to the Sail Barge cue on CD (to me at least... I get goosebumps) than watching it because
it would have been alot more expressive if the movie was made in this time.

And other scenes include:
The Hoth Battle
and possibly the Obi-vs-Ani Ep3 duel
and Obi-Quigon-vs-Maul duel..

yes there are more, but I forgot..

While it is indeed cool for the reasons you expressed, that particular scene always bugged me simply because the lightsaber didn't really appear to be doing its job. It was acting more like a laserbat, knocking people down and throwing them into the pit. For a weapon that's supposed to cut through anything, it wasn't cutting through anything at all. And I'm not a big violence nut that loves to see people's bodies become separated from themselves in the most creative way possible, but to me, even as a kid, it seemed kinda like censoring the carnage to a more "acceptable" level.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

my favorite sence ad i have to say by far cause it was so good, was when that tie in shot where it showed padme on coruocant looking out the window and anakin in the council room during the mace pali duel. that scene was jsut so good, it completely defined IMHO what the PT was supose to project, the conflict that anakin had to face and how DV was born,

Yoda closing his eyes, moving his hand, and getting the X-wing out of the swamp, that's the best scene of them all.

If you want it by movie:

SW: Battle of Yavin, when the music stops and they get to the death start corridor. Most specifically, when Vader says "close up formation" and we see the ships passing by.

ESB: see above.

ROTJ: Luke atacking Vader after he talks about his sister.

And of course, why should we forget about the prequels.

TPM, AOTC: the closing credits. Wheew, that's over...

ROTS: laste minute before the closing credits. Aaaand... the credits.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Yep, IMHO, there were only two scenes in the PT that elicited a noteworthy emotional response from me:

- Anakin/Darth Vader crawling out of the lava, Obi-wan's "you were my brother" spiel
- The binary sunset of Tatooine (mostly because it's a rip-off of the ANH scene)

A lot of other stuff just pissed me off, but that's not the kind of emotional response I want from a Star Wars movie.

When I watched ESB today, Yoda lifting the X-Wing and "I am your father" sent tingles right through me. Always will. Those are my two favourite scenes bar none, and in that order. I must admit, though, I do find the Luke/Vader/Emperor scenes to be very powerful as well, especially when Vader turns back.
MTFBWY. Always.

ANH - the scene as the Death Star nears the end of it's count down and Luke launches the Torpedo's with seconds to spare and they book it out of there as fast as they can. The music is what sells the tension in the scene. Love it. Oscar worthy. In fact, Star Wars did win 7 Oscars. Not everybody knows that.

I agree. It has to be Yoda raising the X-Wing from the swamp. That scene really captures the mystical element of Star Wars which has been all but destroyed by the SEs and prequels.

War does not make one great.

Definately m8 - I do wonder over time if scenes from the Prequels will be thought of in the same way?

On a different level as a teenage lad the Leia bikini scenes from ROTJ sort of stick in the memory

Action wise:
1. speeder bikes on endor
2. hoth battle
3. luke over the pit of carkoon

Dialogue/Cinematography wise
1. luke/vader on cloud city when luke decides to fall
2. luke/vader on death star, right after vader says 'then perhaps she will'
3. han going down in the carbon freeze.

Yes. Some scenes will be.

Ex. The opening battle of ROTS.

yeah, you mean where anakin pilots that ship to safety with the later half of the ship completely blown off, so that anyone on the ship would have been evaporated upon re-entry, then half and hour of boring fighting that no one cares about? yeah, that'll stand the test of time.

But I agree, they could have trimmed down the first 20mins of ROTS quite easily.

Yes, that's what I was referring to, as I said opening shot, not "opening sequence." That opening shot is iconic, and will stand the test of time without a doubt.

I doubt that very much. I wasn't all blown away by it the first time I saw it in the cinema. I had more trouble trying to work out wtf was going on!!

Now..Anakin and Padme's staring competion scene...now that IS a goody...

hey, if we're talking about the first minute of every new star wars movie, all the prequels are great. i always got excited, cause you had no idea how much they would get screwed up over the next 2 hours. so yeah, the first mintue of every prequel is pretty awesome, especially TPM, i was so god damn excited.

To me, the opening of ROTS is on par with the opening of ANH.
