Idea: a preservation of Hardware Wars SE?

Has anybody given thought to preserving this? It’s not on the official DVD. (Was only ever released on VHS.) In spite of not being “approved” by the director, it does give the special editions the spoofing they so rightly deserve.

I haven't even seen the Hardware Wars SE, only the original Hardware wars...

I've not seen either...

Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

I have the Hardware Wars SE VHS. Did they actually make changes to the movie for this release. I thought it was just a re-release of the movie spoofing the SE's of star wars but didnt think they actually made any changes.

This is the only version i saw, but if they did make changes i may be forced to picking up a copy of the dvd to get the original version.

This Special Edition contains some 20 new scenes and effects which were not created nor authorized by Ernie Fosselius.

I need a copy of the SE Hardware Wars

It looks like the SE version is now available from his site?

Here's another request for the SE. I had the SE on tape and sold it when I bought the DVD. Just to be a completionist, I'm now trying to get the SE again.

I did scour the DVD looking for the SE and was shocked it wasn't included when I saw what was! But if Ernie didn't have anything to do with it, I guess its absence makes sense.

I have the DVD plus the SE VHS. I've been meaning to transfer it to DVD, just haven't gotten around to it. Maybe I can get it done this week. I remember watching this when it originally aired on Showtime in the 70's! Showtime used to air small films called "Showtime Shorts" in between movies. They showed this thing a million times that summer!

PS... Another notworthy fan film is George Lucas in Love. Very funny!! Also available on DVD in widescreen or full screen.

Actually, even though Ernie Fosselius had nothing to do with the making of Hardware Wars Special Edition, I believe it was the producer who thought it would be fun to do and Ernie authorized them to do it.

I know I have the aritlcle sitting around somewhere if I could just find it. Maybe sometime after I get more of my crap put away I will take a look around and post it on the net.

I think you're thinking of HBO Short Takes from the 70's-80's, they showed tons of great shorts in between movies. Such as "Closet Cases of the Nerd Kind" I have a VHS tape that has the original version of Hardware Wars, Plus Closet Cases, and a few others like Porklips Now, and Bambi Meets Godzilla. This tape needs to be converted to DVD if anyone wants to take a stab at it.

Nope... it was definitely Showtime and they were called "Showtime Shorts". I remember that summer very well (summer of '80). That same summer also had a show premiere called BIZARRE on Showtime. It was a sketch comedy show hosted by John Byner. Very funny at the time. I'm sure I was too young to be watching it, but I saw it many late nights that summer. :-)

Yes it did feature Super Dave! SD was funny back then ( I was 10 at the time ). I seem to remember Bizarre having some gratuitous nudity, so being a 10 year old watching that was rather funny as well! :-)
