The answer to that is that the Rey Nobody version of the scene already has a great deal of sentence mixing, so I wanted to avoid pushing our luck with a viewer.

Glad you enjoyed it, man!

All the audio changes are seemless in that scene, in both versions. The only thing I felt out of place was actually Adam’s slightly weird delivery of the words “have his power”, but that issue exists in the original.

The BluRay subtitles are updated and now available. A small tweak that doesn’t change the movie itself, just how the subtitles are presented if they are enabled. Each trilogy is a close match to the style of the burned-in, theatrical subtitles for alien dialogue. (The ST is not quite as close; it’s the right font and color, but I can’t make it more precise without creating a front from scratch.)

As someone who is not a native English speaker I gotta say that’s really dope Hal. Sometimes subtitles feel a little immersion breaking but these help them make feel in universe.

Starting tonight, Channel 4 will be showing the sequel trilogy in its entirety for three consecutive weeks. I don’t care how you feel about the trilogy, I will most certainly be tuning in!

I’m watching the “epic conclusion” right now. Part of me wishes Ascendant was made official so that Channel 4 can show this instead of whatever was shat out into cinemas three years ago.

So I was at a house party awhile back having a nice conversation with someone about movies, and the conversation ended up straying into fan edits. Turns out they had seen that Royal Ocean Film Society video that talked about Ascendent and they were interested in checking it out. It was a wild moment for me, because I was able to say, “Oh really? I actually contributed to that project!” They said, “No way!” and we geeked out about it for the next 20 minutes. It was a funny moment because, for some reason, telling someone else about my fan editing hobby felt like revealing my secret identity. It’s something I don’t really talk about with people IRL, so it was weird seeing this community and my personal life intersect like that.

My mind was on that tonight so I went back and was rereading the thread a little bit, just admiring the collaboration and enthusiasm for different things we added, like the force ghosts or the puppet show. I can’t believe it has already been over a year since we made the puppet show. I thought it was this summer! Time really flies.

I hope that one day another thing will come along that will get people excited to collaborate again. Hope everyone is doing well!

Haha, that’s beautiful!

I tell EVERYONE I’m into editing - “So, you should be aware, I’m a huge nerd and there’s like this one Star Wars cartoon that wasn’t as good as a bunch of other stuff, so I spent two years turning 137 variable quality episodes into 46 good ones, I promise I’m cool as well though.” I’m always holding up Ascendent as the pinnacle of what he community achieved.

First of all, congratulations. I’ve been watching your sequel trilogy this week and loved the approach, not being destructive with the work and enhancing its best assets. This version of IX improves practically everything, being a film that, although I see it failing in certain parts, I also perceive things in it that I love and that are enhanced in this version.

I loved that in the duel of Rey and Kylo you keep part of the silence and that the version of Duel of the Fates that you include has a darker tone. I feel like while that scene does fit in having some music, it’s certainly not the standard Duel of the Fates or Battle of Heroes theme that I’ve seen in other edits. I also loved the symbolism of Rey’s broken saber, and the final scene with Palpatine and the ghosts is very successful.

On the other hand, I love those subtitles you are preparing! May I know what font it is? I have thought about translating some edits here into Spanish and I would like them to be as correct as possible.

Honestly I don’t blame you for sharing that with people! I think your version is basically definitive for anyone who doesn’t want to sit through the entirety of TCW. Really you did it for the convenience of people who either 1) The uber fan who loves rewatching Star Wars media but maybe doesn’t want to sit through all of it, or 2) someone who likes Star Wars and wants to get caught up, but again, doesn’t want to sit through the whole series. The second kind of person wouldn’t know about this convenient project you made unless they got lucky and stumbled across it or a bigger fan told them. You’re just spreading the word!

Hey, that’s awesome, RogueLeader! Sounds like you have an exhilarating movie night coming up. Naturally, I’d be curious as to their thoughts. I’m jealous of the IRL pre-awareness of something that you’d worked on. Hasn’t come up for me yet, lol.

Someone at work recently told me how as a film editor and a Star Wars fan, I had to check out this cool project he heard about where someone had fixed Rise of Skywalker, even adding Force Ghosts…

The look on his face was great.

Hi,
Could you please send me the link to your Ep7 edit- I’ve seen your edits of the Prequels, and they MASSIVELY improved them, so I’m interested in how you go about improving the Sequels dumpster fire!
Thanks,
Nik.

Now that the sequel edits have been done for some time…

Any plans to revisit the prequels (adding back the original titles and reinserting some small things back in) as discussed in the other thread.

And even more importantly, where is Hal’s Solo edit?!

in one of Hal9000’s writings, he (?) suggests watching the Coaxium Heist edit for Solo. i got the impression he wasn’t interested in editing Solo and that this was an edit in line with his standards. i’ve watched it myself and i think it’s a good edit.

I did download it and it seemed good! Only wish they didn’t add a crawl and kept the opening the same. The Battlefront footage sticks out like a sore thumb.

Yeah, to me The Coaxium Heist works perfectly well when I want to watch Solo, but I would like an alternate version that uses the original opening. But yeah, I don’t really have much of a vision to tackle Solo. But you never know.

And the prequels have to just be done. I can’t keep reopening them up; it’s been a long time for me and those movies. My take on them has matured as much as it’s going to. They may not be replacements for the originals, but they’re complete for what they are. Although I could conceptualize someone doing a “half-assed” version that only gently adjusts the movies to a lesser degree.

I agree, yours are perfect and are the only versions I’ve watched since V2 when I first found them. If you never touch them again, I am beyond happy with what you made 😃

I had a lazy Saturday afternoon today, so I watched TFA Restructured, Poppasketti’s edit of TLJ, and I finally got around to watching Ascendant for the first time. I only saw the original once back during pandemic lockdown days in 2020.

Nice job to all the people involved! I gotta say, going from the “find me” line at the end of TLJ to the creepy line added to the first Wayfinder scene ended up being a fantastic lead in, even if it was unintentional. It got me pretty pumped for the movie.

The movie was okay, I watched the Rey Nobody version. Definitely better than the theatrical. Still wish all the characters weren’t total dicks to Threepio the whole way through though lol.

Anyway, I just wanted to give kudos to the work that went into this.

Thanks for saying that, and I’m glad you enjoyed it. The subtle “Find me” was a reference to poppasketti’s edit, as it works well whether you just finished watching that one or not.
