The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released) — Page 591

I’m okay with the continuity error for the same reason as the filmmakers who certainly would have known about it. Things like that don’t bother me, and never have. It’s not a story problem, just an artifact of this being a movie rather than actual events.

My stance on revising fan edits.

There are a ton of continuity errors in this film anyway, and most probably wouldn’t be noticed except on repeat viewings. One of the ones that’s always stuck out to me was Rey having the lightsaber activated in the drone shot during the training montage, even though the shots before and after have it deactivated. But I doubt anything can be done about it, so…oh well.

Yeah, I noticed there’s a ton of moments where the lightsabers are just suddenly on / off. Like, no activation / deactivation sequence or anything like that. It’s one part that really underscores how much the movie’s pacing was accelerated in editing. But like you said, not much can be done about it.

My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:
I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX

Continuity errors like these are not that huge of a problem, what always stands out for me in this movie is the unnecessary number of cuts and shots that acelerate the pacing. I’ll never get over the 1 second four-shot jump in the training sequence, it’s such a lesser thing but completely takes me out of the movie, unlike a cointinuity error like the saber hanging or the blade being on/off in weird moments. All movies have errors like these, it’s like complaining about the shadow of the blade being cast during some scenes in the OT

A 1 second four-shot jump in the training sequence? Maybe I’m so used to the movie’s breakneck pacing that my eyes just glazed over some bits like that but I don’t think I’ve ever noticed something like that.

I have the audio line and everything still. Just might need a little bit of reverb added.

I can’t actually tell what the edit is here.

Here’s the Jedi Voices scene with only one Sors line.

(I’ve also exported the “two lines” version without the added dialogue, so if anyone wants to add their own Jedi voices, PM me.)

Well, that’s actually the goal! The v1 line stands out imo. He says “I see them” instead of “You were right”.

I think if he said “I saw them. You were right. Your parents were no one. They chose to be…” it would flow a lot better.

“You were right” leads into the next line better, I think. If he says “I see them,” I’d expect the next line to simply be “Your parents.”

But he practically does say that. “I see them … [insert description of what he sees about her parents]”. He later tells Rey herself to “see them”, which leads into the first vision. So by having him say this line it’s clear that through their dyad they are capable of experiencing the same vision/memories. I think that’s a really cool concept that isn’t clear in the original. (Heck, I’m pretty sure the original implies she’s getting the visions from the dagger which is kinda dumb).

Besides, there are a lot of other people who agree that “You were right” simply doesn’t sound natural. No offense to Pappa of course, he did his best there, but why would you use an unofficial line if an official one works just as good if not arguably better?

Either way, I suppose this may be another thing I’ll have to do on my own somehow. Lots of other LEGO lines that I think would work well in this film. Might just have to make the Ascendent LEGO cut 😉

That’s a huge improvement imo! Personal preference, but I might make the new line just a hair softer, and add a touch more reverb. But it sounds really, really good right now! (I’m assuming the audio going completely screwy at 1:10 was just an accident 😉).

I…don’t hate it. I do agree that it doesn’t flow perfectly with what comes next; but then, the rest of the script sounds like it was run through Google Translate a dozen times and then fed through a wood chipper. Natural-sounding dialogue went out the window back with “I made Snoke.”

I’m inclined to think that a line that kinda fits would be better than a line that matches structurally, but was overdubbed by someone else. Jar Jar, are there any other options available? It doesn’t even have to be a big, dramatic line - just something like:

KYLO: Wherever you are, you are hard to find.
REY: You’re hard to get rid of.
KYLO: I pushed you in the desert because I needed to see it. I needed you to see it. Who you are. I know the rest of your story… Rey-
REY: You’re lying.
KYLO: I never lied to you. No. Your parents were no one. They chose to be. To keep you safe.

(Really, I’m just looking forward to gutting this entire conversation in Rey Nobody.)

I’d have to take a look, but I’m semi-confident this is the best there is. And, at least in my dialect, referring to someone with a pronoun before elaborating on exactly who that is would be fine structurally. (Ex: “I ran into him. Bob is looking better today.”)

EDIT: There is actually one other option.

There’s no need. Your parents were no one. They chose to be. To keep you safe.

The point of having “You were right” was to help with the retcon from TLJ

The only thing that was problematic was “I never lied to you”, because technically speaking Rey was the one to admit her parents were nobody. Theoretically, anything within reason could replace that line to achieve the same goal.

Thank you! I messed around with volume and reverb a bit, but if it’s not perfect (and let’s be honest, it was a bit of a rush job after I’d done the actual editing) then I’m happy to let other people tinker with it.

(I’m assuming the audio going completely screwy at 1:10 was just an accident 😉).

Whoops! Yeah, I must have messed up a clip somewhere on the timeline. I’ll fix that before I do a final export.

So that screen direction remains consistent.

What if you tried ‘No. Never to you.’? I think it clears the inconsistency and underscores their bond.

Where’d you source that “No” from? The rest sounds a little rough, but Sherlock suggested just that single word. That might work.
