I think it is great news. Lando in Solo if nothing else was well cast, and Glover was great.
I still cannot get over them miscasting Han Solo though, it ruined the film for me. I kept comparing Alden to Harrison as unfair as that is. The end of Solo was very good though and i still think i would watch a sequel if Han became the Han we know.

To me, the best part of the film was Lando. Perfectly cast and well played. Since the film did so poorly, I gave up quickly on ever seeing him in the role again. This would be a must-watch for me. Plus it might be a way to see more of Enfys. She was my other favorite part of the film and more collateral damage. She could make an appearance in this once a season or so.

A Lando series would be more interesting to me than a Kenobi series. I think the Kenobi series could be great and I’d watch it, but Lando is a more interesting character to me. That said, if they put as much work into any of these TV shows as they have The Mandalorian, the franchise is is excellent shape. Maybe it’s time to move Star Wars to the small screen and go with story over spectacle.

Yeah Lando was a highlight. I wonder if they’ll do something post ROTJ with him.

The movie should have always been Lando in the first place, Donald Glover was reaching the peak of his fame, all stars aligned, for those that don’t remember This Is America dropped the same month as Solo. The character of Lando is much more flexible and organic to make a prequel about than Han who is more narratively fixed and tightly married to the specific mannerisms of Ford that made audiences reject Ehrenreich’s interpretation as cheap imitation.

Instead of a swashbuckling Lando adventure, I could go for a series where the first episode starts with Lando arriving at Cloud City, then continues in the style of Deep Space Nine and Babylon 5. The Empire Strikes Back would serve as closure for the series.

Honestly, The Adventures of Lando Calrissian could be a lot of fun. Just a guy who’s way too cocky for his own good getting in way over his head seeking fortune and glory.

You are 100% right here. The second Glover was cast as Lando I wanted it to become a Lando movie if it could.

Disney plans to expand the Star Wars universe with 10 shows

https://ew.com/tv/disney-star-wars-universe

'UPDATE: Disney announced Thursday it’s planning a whopping ten Star Wars series over the next few years, along with an equal number of Marvel series.

PREVIOUS: The Star Wars galaxy is about to get far, far bigger.

Disney plans “a significant expansion of the Star Wars universe,” including a “Death Star-size trove of coming content,” according to a New York Times report Wednesday.

The news comes on the eve of Disney’s Investor Day conference, a four-hour event that’s expected to include major programming revelations on Thursday afternoon.

On the Star Wars front, there are many headline possibilities.

A third season of The Mandalorian is a given, but not yet announced.

There is sure to be an update on the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series, which has Ewan McGregor reprising his iconic Jedi Master role. The project will reportedly air as a six-episode limited series rather than as an ongoing story. The project is set eight years after Revenge of the Sith (and before the events in A New Hope). Filming has been expected to begin in the next few months, so potential casting news, a title, or other details seems likely.

The Cassian Andor series is also overdue for an update. The prequel project has Diego Luna reprising his Rogue One role as a Rebel spy. Alan Tudyk has also been confirmed as reprising his role as the droid K-2SO. Luna recently suggested the project has begun quietly filming in London.

There’s also a female-centric series in the works from Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland that reportedly is set in a rather different timeline than we’ve seen before in other Star Wars projects.

Recently there have also been rumors of a Boba Fett series now that Jango Fett actor Temuera Morrison has returned to the Star Wars universe on The Mandalorian.

There’s also another animated series in the works, The Bad Batch, which is set after the events in The Clone Wars.

Yet the most exciting announcement will probably not be an update on these existing reports, but rather something entirely new. One area of particular interest is what’s next for the franchise in terms of theatrical films in the wake of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Or perhaps Disney will completely shift its Star Wars interests to the small screen to bolster Disney+, which has racked up a most impressive 74 million subscribers since launching just over a year ago.’

If the article is correct I wonder what the other 5 Star Wars series will be?

  1. Cassian Andor
  2. Obi Wan
  3. The Bad Batch
  4. a series by Leslye Headland
  5. Boba Fett (rumours)

A Rebels animated sequel? Lando? Ahsoka? Cara Dune? Something hopefully set in a new time and part of the GFFA?

No word on any of the announced new films though 😦

Edit: The official Star Wars website has this article covering some of the new content announced today:

So according to the recent announcements the future TV roster will be comprised of:

  • AHSOKA (set during the events of The Mandalorian)
  • ANDOR (Cassian and K2-led prequel)
  • BAD BATCH (CGI spin-off of Clone Wars)
  • LANDO (maybe they’ll get Donald Glover back?)
  • OBI-WAN KENOBI (with Ewan AND Hayden returning; set a decade after ROTS)
  • RANGERS OF THE NEW REPUBLIC (no idea, other than its set within the timeline of Mando)
  • THE ACOLYTE (the project helmed by Leslye Headland, will be set during the High Republic era)
  • VISIONS (apparently a collection of anime-inspired 2D short films)
  • Plus any remaining seasons of The Mandalorian

On the movie side we’ll get ROGUE SQUADRON, helmed by Patty Jenkins.

Also I think an animated R2 and 3PO project is in the works.

It appears the followup to Rebels won’t be an animated project but the Ahsoka series. Also no word on Boba Fett getting his own show yet. Maybe they will disclose it after Mando S2 is over.

Plus not really Star Wars but a Willow series also got announced.

Well, that’s a lot of TV.

It does feel sort of scattershot, with series happening all over in different time periods. With the old EU, there was a sense of there being a post-movies main storyline that would be pushed forward here and there.

I really wouldn’t mind having a Rey series to carry the main storyline forward throughout all this. But I’ll look forward to most of these announced shows, for sure.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Spinoff-prequel-spinoffs… As much as I like the sequels, it does feel now in retrospect like they’ve played that card perhaps too soon, because now the way forward seems to be for the most part to milk the OT era, with most of these live action shows being set either a couple years before the OT or a couple years after. And pretty much none of these are really “main story”. If the sequels didn’t exist (though I’m glad they do), perhaps now would be time to move forward the main story in the Mando era, but their hands are kinda tied, aren’t they? Like really, I’m glad there will be something for almost everyone, but how much time can you spend telling stories within the same timeframe? This was the running joke a few years ago, but then they canceled a bunch of stuff, but now I guess every piece of furniture getting a prequel spinoff actually will be a thing!

I agree about a Rey series, but it seems they are distancing themselves from the sequel era after all… my heart cries at the lack of any word on a Rian Johnson trilogy/movie/series.

Here’s a full rundown on everything announced.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

Apparently, Rangers of the New Republic and Ahsoka will crossover with Mando leading to a big event as of now undisclosed. It looks like they’re taking pages from Marvel’s book and making some sort of cinematic universe. A positive thing or not, one thing is for sure, there’s something for almost everybody.

Prequel fans are getting Obi-Wan Kenobi with Ewan and Hayden returning (I guess we’ll see if he acts better with well-written dialogue haha). I’m excited about his return. Clone Wars and Rebels fans get the live-action continuation of those stories through Mando and Ahsoka. Plus, The Bad Batch, which looks better than I expected.

Rogue One fans, and many OT fans, get Andor. If what has been reported is true and it tells a more obscure tale of the Rebellion, something that was touched a bit in Rogue, I’m sold. Plus I’m Mexican, so having Diego Luna back is great!

I’m really looking forward to hearing more about Rogue Squadron. If it’s set in the OT I guess Luke could appear since he founded the squadron in honor of Rogue One. We’ll see.

And there’s even going to be some completely new content for those tired of the same thing all the time. Which I suppose is always a good thing.

I guess there isn’t much for Sequel lovers, but it appears Mando could have some things setting up the rise of the First Order. I personally didn’t like how things ended up with the ST, but I don’t think they will just ignore it. Then again, doing so may necessitate explaining away all the major plot holes. Though, CW did just that for the PT.

Anyway, more SW is a good thing in my book. I’m curious, what are you guys most excited about?

Another Star Wars film and series announced soon on Disney+ Day?

Some of the more reputable sites and YouTubers think there could be something to it:

A KOTOR movie, or KOTOR Trilogy
A Maul series (animated?)
some updates, teasers or BTS footage for some of the new series and films announced last year

Is There REALLY an Old Republic Movie Coming in 2023? : Star Wars Explained

An Old Republic movie would be cool to see!

A Maul series wouldn’t interest me, unless it was a limited series and had a new story, something connected to other new series, maybe the crime lord gangs in Book Of Boba Fett.

Okay it’s now being reported that there will be both a High Republic movie and an Old Republic movie. The High Republic movie will go first (in 2023).

The High Republic film (set a couple hundred years before the Skywalker saga) is during a time when the Sith are basically a myth. The movie will apparently be small-scale and small-budget and aimed primarily at kids. A reliable source said a few years ago that Rian Johnson’s movie was gonna be “Rated-G Star Wars,” so I’m guessing this is probably his.

The Old Republic film (set thousands of years in the past) is almost around the time when the Jedi and Sith first formed and were both in their primes. It’s apparently gonna be big-budget, big-scaled and aimed more at general audiences. A reliable source said last year that Taika Waititi’s movie would deal with the origins of the Jedi in some way, so I’m guessing this is probably his.

Its also now being reported that Chloe Zhao (the woman who directed Nomadland and Eternals) will be directing Kevin Feige’s Star Wars movie (which is separate from the two projects above). Feige came up with the story idea, and Michael Waldron (who runs the Loki show) is fleshing out the script. We still don’t know anything story-wise about this one.

Patty Jenkins’s Rogue Squadron movie is “delayed indefinitely” (aka canceled) and JD Dillard’s Exegol movie hasn’t been talked about since it was first announced in 2019 so I think it’s safe to call that project dead too.

Lucasfilm really have to stop announcing feature films and then hope everyone just forgets about them when they run into production troubles (although my bet is still on Rogue Squadron happening at some point)

The High Republic era has so much more potential than what you could fit into a film aimed completely at children. That feels wrong, since the main books have been actually very dark in tone and featuring adult themes. ‘Kid’s films’ can still be great (one can argue Star Wars was always primarily marketed towards young audiences) but I can’t help but feel that the HR era and its amazing writers are being short-changed here, if the rumour is true.

Announcement is still up on the official site. If it had been cancelled this would have been deleted I think.

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

Well … Colin Trevorrow announced as director of Episode IX is still up.

I do hope though Rian’s trilogy ends up happening as I’m more and more curious what he’d do with a clean slate as I’ve come to regard The Last Jedi more favourably.

Even if he doesn’t get a trilogy I do hope he gets to direct an episode of The Mandalorian or something. He’s a great director.
