Not sure it can get much better than that! Easily could have been in the theatrical without me noticing.

Sounds great to me bro.

Sounds great!

How is the “I am a Jedi” line coming? Has it gotten to a finished state yet? Very excited for that one!

That seems to be the next audio hurdle to pass. For my pathetic ears, it sounds good the latest rendition. I think there was an idea to use a lightsaber ignition sound to help mask it.

I think I’ve somehow fallen into being the current leader of the charge on that - I’ve got something I want to try, but I haven’t had the time to implement it. One way or another, though, I think it’s approaching the home stretch. Without derailing the thread with personal matters, some recent things both personally and professionally have sucked up all of my time, so the most I’m able to do right now is check in occasionally with this thread/site. I’m still around, not going anywhere, and hopefully I’ll be freed up a bit again soon.

That’s up in the air because MR just gave us the impression that he’s done here.

I like mirroring the Leia convo, but in the last close-up of Rey you can definitely tell that Daisy Ridley’s facial scar is on the wrong side if you’re aware it exists. Not that anyone would be looking for that sort of thing in a real viewing, though, of course. Could probably fix it with EBSynth.

Maybe I’m wrong, but isn’t the most conspicuous part the arm band Rey wears being on the wrong side? I’m not sure if she ever switches it but for telling whether something’s flipped I thought that might be an issue. It’s kind of like having Chewie’s belt going the wrong way?!

You’re right, I didn’t catch that. Not as bad as this shot though!

Now that’s weird to look at.
IMO Carrie being flipped is much more noticeable, and well worth the tradeoff to correct it, but not everyone will feel that way. Hal put it perfectly here:

It’s six one way and half a dozen the other with mirroring that scene.

Flipped shots are always so distracting. I can forgive them for flipping one face. I’d say trim the scene but don’t flip it.

Hi. I don’t read all the messages of this thread, and the last time I saw TROS was in the cinema, so I have a question (if you guys doesn’t bothered to answer): In the scene of Luke and Leia training, what’s the difference between the new dialogue from this edit and the original dialogue from the movie? Just curious to know what improvement you are making on the scene, and how it helps to improve the film as a whole

I believe it just removes “the death of her son” to now just being “the end of her jedi path”. Ontop of that Leia now wields a purple saber as requested by Carrie Fisher in an interview before her passing.

Ah, thanks. I saw the last clip posted here of that scene and thought Leia’s saber was really purple in the original movie. I sincerelly didn’t remember that the saber was of another color, you guys did a really good job!

Thanks for making so many passes at this, as it seems to have paid off. Sounds totally natural.

Awesome, thanks to everyone for your feedback and for bearing with me on it! I’ll go back to the “I am a Jedi” line next and see if that can be smoothed out some more. Between Cap and myself, I think that we’ll be able to crack that one!

Finally. I’m as happy with this as I’m ever going to be with the current audio sources, frankly, so now it’s up to group consensus to decide what they think of it.

That’s SO wonderful. Such a powerful conclusion. I’d maybe slightly boost the volume of the lightsaber activation SFX to give it a little more punch, or make sure that its bass component hits nicely, but the flow and clarity of all of the dialogue is flawless.

I wouldn’t say it’s perfect but it’s very good. I’m happy to include it once both you and sherlock are happy with it. It’s really a nice change, tying into Rey’s journey through the trilogy. I wonder if they gave her the original line in order to make it at least a little bit different from Luke’s confrontation with the Emperor in ROTJ. At this point in the trilogy, though, I’ll take a retread versus making that film feel anemic in retrospect because it didn’t get into apparently larger issues of ALL the Jedi and Sith needing to spiritually battle it out.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I should be very clear, Sherlock did 95% of the work here including most of the heavy lifting. I’ve just come along at the very end and tried to tweak a few bits.

I’m glad the feedback is to make the saber activation louder, cos I was worried it was too loud! I’ll boost the volume and re-export, hopefully later tonight.

I think the scene works better with the saber sound, but IMO this pass it’s a bit too loud and, i don’t know how to put this, still sounds a bit like just an added foley over the scene and not a diegetic sound, maybe by muffling it a bit helps to make it all come together. The work itself is fenomenal as always, just not quite there yet for me.
