Theres a removed line featured in the TROS D23 Special Look, where Palpatine tells Rey “You’re journey, nears It’s end”. Any ideas where it could have possibly fit in the film. Was initially thinking it could be implemented during Rey’s vision while training in the jungle as a subtle echo of his voice calling out to her.

If the music can be removed from the first part, it could be good general “threatening dialogue” to fill a gap somewhere.

It could work as a replacement for the removed lines “I never wanted you dead…”

@DrVibble Regarding your review. At one point you mention drama about Lucasfilm and Kennedy. Please don’t be referring to those false “civil war” rumors from Doomcock…

I just didn’t want him to be blinded by a lie and/or spread any lies further.

Kylo’s altered dialogue to “You were right.” definitely helped in terms of continuity and logic, but though it’s close enough to pass for Kylo’s voice on its own, next to his real masked voice it’s pretty clear that it sounds different; the accent doesn’t quite match, and it feels more flat. Are there any plans to retouch this line for future versions?

Nice review here! I made a mock-up of what is, in my opinion, a more organic line in this scene a while back. I’m glad to hear that even for a first-time viewer this line sounds off. Here it is:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcsLeRB5Uyk

The original line was completely contradictory with TLJ, so it makes sense to replace it, but at least this line removes that contradiction and replaces it with something basic that doesn’t sound out of place. Plus, it makes it clearer where the visions are coming from. Kylo says he sees her parents, then he tells her to see them as well. Cue the first vision.

I like this sooo much better than how “you were right” sounds currently. Sounds more natural contextually and sonically. Was this turned down earlier for Ascendant? Is it Adam Driver’s voice, as well?

Also, DrVibble, really enjoyed reading your reviews. Agree with your review for Ascendant a ton, the changes gave me so many feels I was seeking from this movie, lol. Also relate with your complaints as well, but there is a V2 coming after all!

It’s really a pretty good line to use. I really like what poppasketti did, too, though! I’ll sleep on the degree to which one of those two lines over the other does a better surgical retcon of TLJ, I suppose. Always good to have options. I don’t recall seeing that before, but I’m sure I must’ve.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I shared it in the TROS redux thread originally a couple months back. I thought I’d share it here as well since Poppa’s line was brought up again. I mentioned when I first shared it that I didn’t mean to disrespect Poppa’s work, which I should have mentioned here as well. He did a pretty good job, all things considered. His work could easily be used for a fan film or a video game. I was just never sure about it being in the film itself.

And yes, it is Adam’s voice from, you guessed it, the LEGO game. Exclusive to that as well, to my understanding. So it shouldn’t appear anywhere else in the trilogy.

I don’t remember seeing this before. I like the idea though! You’d just need to add more echo and reverb to the new line to make it match the rest of the dialogue.

Maybe this could be used in the Rey Nobody version to replace “For my granddaughter to come home”? She walks in, hears Palps behind her: “Long have I waited. [And now] your journey nears its end. You will take the throne.” It would just depend on getting a clean enough extraction of the line.

“You['d] better not be,” followed by an ominous ellipsis? What the heck? Am I the only one reading this as a threat? DrVibble took the time to write out a very thorough and kind review, and that’s your response? What’s your problem?

Hey mods, is making vague threats against other users enough to get Testing kicked off this thread? Please?

Poppasketti:
You were right when you broke down and confessed that your parents were no one, admitting the truth. However, they appeared that way by their choice. I know what happened to them."

Jar Jar Bricks:
“I see your parents. They match your true confession as nobodies, but only because they chose to appear that way. I know what happened to them.”

I do wonder if the line “You remember more than you say” also poses a problem. Kylo goes on to reveal the circumstances of their death, which isn’t something Rey could have known beforehand. This line seems to undermine the sincere confession about her own parents in TLJ. I feel it is important to maintain, even retroactively, that film’s moment of Rey admitting the truth to herself. Not admitting partially but still blocking out a deeper, contradictory truth. Rey can learn her parents were connected to Palpatine in TROS, and that doesn’t have to infringe on her sincerity in TLJ.

Wonder if merely “I’ve been inside your head” could carry the moment or if any lego dialogue could be slotted in. Not sure what he’d ideally say instead, though.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I agree. This clip was very much a test, as I merely dragged and dropped the audio into place and adjusted how loud it was.

I can share the audio file here tomorrow if somebody wants to give it a whirl with some of that echo/reverb. Kinda busy this week unfortunately otherwise I’d try myself.

Man, it would be nice to have a whole day to revisit that “You were right” line!

Jar Jar, glad you’re stepping in and trying to make improvements!

Hal, maybe the existing line could use some EQ? I remember thinking it might be a little aggressive in the low end, and also a bit loud in the mix. Maybe turning it down would fit better. I agree the delivery is a bit flat!

I’m also not sure if this helps, but I remember back when I was doing it I found a helmeted Kylo line from the very beginning of TFA where he actually says “You are so right” to Max Von Sydow. However, they seem to have changed the filtering so much since TFA (or maybe just that one line) that I couldn’t use it for anything. But I thought I’d mention it since the line is soooo close.

I think it makes more sense if the line was “I’m not lying to you,” referring to Rey’s line at this very specific moment and not acting as if he never ever lied to her. Thoughts?

Maybe Kylo changed it based on the helpful feedback of Poe. 😉

I’m just imagining Kylo pacing in his quarters: “They made fun of my mask again. That was so not wizard. I’ll show them!”

Get the Adam Driver voice AI to record it and add it to the start of TLJ or TROS, whenever the voice changed.

Thanks all for the response to my reviews! Glad to contribute even in a small way to this community; it’s just great to see such talented people working on projects like this.

And @TestingOutTheTest: I have never heard the name Doomcock, and I value academic analysis too highly to base the entirety of my opinion on a matter on the words of a single subjective source, especially one you insinuate is quite biased.

Would love for the mods to just prevent him from posting in this thread because all he does is troll everyone all day long and provide suggestions outside the scope of this edit.

Off the top of my head, “You don’t have to say anything” seems like it would fit, but I have a feeling it might not sound right. Still, it would probably be better than the original:

“You remember more than you say. I’ve been in your head.”
To:
“You don’t have to say anything. I’ve been in your head.”

I’m sure there are a couple other options I could investigate as well.

“You remember more than you say” hints that Rey knew deep down that no one was coming back for her. That she was abandoned.
