The less planet-destroying lasers, the better.

agreed, enough of death stars please, it only cheapens the plot

the dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural

I also think we’d undercut our newly minted themes by adding it back in. “See Poe, there are good people willing to stand up in their own - oh, wait, nope, never mind, all dead, disregard that.”

I understand completely where both you guys are coming from, I feel it would fit because it is a repercussion to any planet that tries to stand with the resistance.

I’d love to see it added but I’m completely with you guys if not

Edit:

Yeah Cap, you are right. With the newly added dialogue it changes it, I forgot about that but you are totally correct

Yeah, I’d also rather not have another planet-destroying weapon, especially when it’s so inconsequential to the actual plot. The other factor is that it’s not really “The First Order” that blows up Kijimi, it’s Palpatine. Palpatine’s behind it all.

But, hmm… I wonder if it were possible to edit it in such a way that the First Order kind of “bombs” the planet, but then cut away before the entire planet is destroyed. That could potentially be interesting; but I think I’d still rather just leave it out. There are enough explosions already.

You can’t help but laugh at blowing Kijimi up.

After the explosion, add this right after:

“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”

Just a question, what is the point of changing Finn’s “R2” into “Look sharp” in his first scene?

Author

Finn saying R2 was a little awkward… like there wasn’t really a point. Having Finn say “look sharp” is similar to saying “get ready” which I felt made more sense to the scene the way it was cut down.

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

I think he’s just trying to get his attention. Though I understand your “get ready” point.

Cap is still helping me track down some more instances of Rey saying “I am” to help smooth over that transition (thank you, Cap!!); but in the meantime, I wanted to get back into the scene after stepping away from it for a bit. If it’s not 100% yet, that’s fine - hopefully we’ll be able to use some of the new clips - but for now, I have it with Sade’s Palpy dialogue rearrangement, the added Rey pant as before, and a new cut of “am a Jedi.” The big thing I’m curious about for this test: I also tweaked the video somewhat to see if I could fudge the lip sync at all, so I’d love feedback on that!

This is looking really good to me! The only thing that still sticks out to me is the “am,” and it’s that syllable I’m having trouble finding anywhere useably in the movies. I’ve now checked TFA and TLJ, but I haven’t been through TROS yet, so hopefully there’ll be something in there. After that, it’s time to dive into interviews and other Daisy Ridley audio.

Has anyone tried flipping Palpatine’s lines so he says “I am all the Sith, you are nothing, a scavenger girl is no match for the power in me”? Logically it flows slightly better in my opinion, but I don’t know if there’s enough coverage to put it together that way.

I think a better way to make the mouth move with the lines well is through the use of AI software that does lip-sync style outputs (kind-of like Deepfakes but using a single image and you can change what the person can say, i.e WOMBO.AI which is on the App Store, but I’m sure theres PC alternatives)

For me, it’s looking/sounding good to me.

This is the big thing for me. “I am all the Sith” should be the last thing Palpatine says, because it flows way better into Rey’s line.

Sure it flows better because it was written that way, but it was also written with the subtlety and grace of a 9 year old playing with action figures.

9 year old? They wish.

but anyway, with technology it would be great if the lines could be swapped around to have it flow better.

Different suggestion: could we believably dub Rey to say “No” during one of her mouth movements, cutting out her “and I?” Here’s what I’m thinking for the scene:

Palpatine: “I am all the sith! A scavenger girl is no match for the power in me! You are nothing!”

Rey: “No.” catches lightsaber “I am a Jedi.”

If the whole trilogy is Rey dealing with where she belongs, whether or not she’s a nobody, rejecting her dark heritage, and ultimately embracing her place in the Jedi/Skywalker legacy, this ordering/dubbing of dialog might make for a better finale for her arc. And it further reduces the Avengers Endgame comparison that we were already kinda trying to do.

The only way I can see the dialogue working with Rey saying “No” is as follows:

Palpatine: “I am all the Sith! A scavenger girl is no match for the power in me. You are nothing.”

Rey: “No… I’m a Jedi.”

Bump 😉

Haha, I thought someone must have suggested it earlier. I do think it’s the best option if it’s doable. I guess it was shot down almost immediately when you first brought it up, but I don’t think the demo did the idea justice, so I’m still curious if it’s really possible.

To me, having it that way is the only way the “I am a Jedi” pays off well in Rey’s arc. Hopefully the new demo sways some opinions on how doable it may be.

The original reason it was shot down was because there was no place to put the moved “you are nothing” line, but I think there is, if we tweak the order a little more. Forgive the following nonsense play-by-play description as I’m not in a place to try editing right now.

In the original movie, the order of the three lines is “Nothing, Scavenger, Sith.” In the original order, before Sith, where the shot is entirely on Palps, there is a good 4 seconds of no dialog where the camera goes front-Rey, close-up of lightsaber, side-Rey. In our current “Nothing, Sith, Scavenger” edited order, we use that 4 seconds for the first part of Scavenger, but I think we could put Nothing there instead. So if we made the dialog order “Scavenger, Sith, Nothing,” then Scavenger basically has its original placement back and Nothing has a new spot to safely go before the music build-up.

However, because of the way the 4 seconds ends, we might need to reorder those 4 seconds too. So instead of the shots being front-Rey, lightsaber, side-Rey, they could be front-Rey, side-Rey, lightsaber, allowing us to then transfer from the lightsaber close-up back to Rey’s face for the dramatic build-up of music and her saying “No…”

So… uh, yeah.
