I enjoyed “Into the Dark” very much. It has a few surprises and a character named Geode that I think is awesome.

I recently finished “Light of the Jedi”. Its a good introduction to the High Republic era. Despite the ton of new characters the story was fun and easy to follow, only the events leading up to the climax were a bit confusing due to a fair share of jumping around between subplots. Its clearly not a rehash of the typical Star Wars premise, with no rival empire nor Sith/dark siders at all (at least for the moment), and that’s a welcome change. I had worried the timeframe of the High Republic wouldn’t be that interesting because it was a time of peace, but thankfully the worldbuilding is solid and there is a lot of room for intrigue and mystery to keep the High Republic project afloat.

Many of the characters come and go, being phased out or killed off without much fuss, but there are quite a few that are pretty memorable. My favorite is the laidback and charming yet badass Loden Greatstorm and I also found his padawan, Bell Zettifar, very relatable. Elzar Mann also caught my attention because of his unorthodox thoughts and feelings.

I finished LOTJ not too long ago, I absolutely loved it.
Like many of you I was worried that we would be looking at a time in the jedi that was boring but this is what I want from the Old republic to begin with! So I that shocked me.

Does anyone know the order to read the books and comics, I feel like I’m in the dark

Regarding what is currently released, as long as you read “Light of the Jedi” first, I think you’ll be fine. It’s kind of the introduction to everything.

“Into The Dark” is a young adult novel (think Harry Potter reading level) that references the events of LotJ. “A Test of Courage” is a middle-grade novel that introduces some new characters and references the events of LotJ as well. “The Great Jedi Rescue” is the children’s book version of LotJ.

This summer there will be a direct sequel to Light of the Jedi titled “The Rising Storm” and a sequel to Into the Dark titled “Out of the Shadows.” There’s also a manga and a graphic novel coming too.

There are some interesting videos about it all. The High Republic is a huge group effort. Multiple authors writing for multiple characters across the board. I think they’re doing it to where you can read as little or as much as you want. For me, I’m sticking with the adult and young adult novels for now.

After nearly 2 months of waiting, my favourite local bookshop got my order of Light of the Jedi in, and now I have it! I’m hyped. Will post my review in here once I’m done.

All I can say right now, is that I love the painted cover, the golden and blue colours on the book, and the back cover inscription of “For over a thousand generations, the Jedi knights were the guardians of peace and justice…” They say never judge a book by its cover, but I’ve a good feeling about this.

Thanks for the information dude. I’ve been really confused.

I hope you enjoy Light of the Jedi. I think its incredible and really mature for a star wars story, the word bastard is said multiple times

This era is so exciting to me. I would kill to have movies and shows take place during this time period.

I have been taking my time because I’ve been waiting for things to arrive. (Fucksake I had to order on Ebay because amazon uk isn’t releasing the books and comics at the same time as america and there is no bookshop in the town I live in.).

I’m about 60% through test of courage. It’s a very nice side story that gives some very interesting info about the Old republic.

I just wish I could walk into a shop and buy the books on release day but test of courage wasn’t even released until February in the uk and ireland.

FIRST DETAILS OF THE NEXT WAVE OF STAR WARS: THE HIGH REPUBLIC STORIES REVEALED
https://www.starwars.com/news/star-w...blic-next-wave

The Rising Storm

In the wake of the Great Hyperspace Disaster and the heroism of the Jedi, the Republic continues to grow, bringing more worlds together under a single unified banner. Led by Chancellor Lina Soh, the spirit of unity extends throughout the galaxy, with the Jedi and newly established Starlight Beacon station at the vanguard.

In celebration, the chancellor plans “The Republic Fair,” a showcase of the possibility and peace of the expanding Republic—a precept the Jedi hope to foster. Stellan Gios, Bell Zettifar, Elzar Mann, and others join the event as ambassadors of harmony. But as the eyes of the galaxy turn toward the Fair, so too does the fury of the Nihil. Their leader, Marchion Ro, is intent on destroying this spirit of unity. His storm descends on the pageantry and celebration, sowing chaos and exacting revenge.

As the Jedi struggle to curb the carnage of the rampaging Nihil, they come face to face with the true fear their enemy plans to unleash across the galaxy. The kind of fear that even the Force cannot shield them from.

Out of the Shadows

Sylvestri Yarrow is on a streak of bad luck with no end of sight. She’s been doing her best to keep the family cargo business going after her mom’s death, but between mounting debt and increasing attacks by the Nihil on unsuspecting ships, Syl is in danger of losing all she has left of her mother. She heads to the galactic capital of Coruscant for help, but gets sidetracked when she’s drawn into a squabble between two of the Republic’s most powerful families over a patch of space on the frontier. Tangled up in familial politics is the last place Syl wants to be, but the promise of a big payoff is enough to keep her interested…

Meanwhile, Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh has been summoned to Coruscant, but with no idea of why or by whom. She and her Padawan Imri Cantaros arrive at the capital along with Jedi Master Cohmac Vitus and his Padawan, Reath Silas—and are asked to assist with the property dispute on the frontier. But why? What is so important about an empty patch of space? The answer will lead Vernestra to a new understanding of her abilities, and take Syl back to the past…and to truths that will finally come out of the shadows.

I’m about half-way through Light of the Jedi and it’s absolutely one of the best Star Wars books I’ve ever read. It’s perfectly structured; effortlessly alternating between different lines of action, keeping you invested in all. I appreciate it letting the great hyperspace disaster unfold slowly: Charles Soule has a tendency to introduce characters, make them as likeable as possible then immediately kill them off, so the book already had high stakes from chapter 1/2; in chapter 7, things heat up massively; in chapter 14, things heat up massively AGAIN.

Most of all, I love how Charles Soule created a communal spirit, encapsulated by the Chancellor’s new slogan: “We are all the Republic”. I had heard some complaints that the book introduced a lot of characters in the start and it was slightly difficult to keep track, but surprisingly, I never had any problems - and introducing a whole host of new characters working on the same problem helps with this sense of community. Most of all, none of these characters are powerful solely as individuals, but mostly because they work as a team. Captain Bright needs his two junior officers, each with individual heroic moments, to succeed in a rescue mission; Joss and Pikka Adren only come up with a complete plan together; Bell Zettifar relies on his master’s teachings, but when Loden Greatstorm has to concentrate on the Force, he can only do so when Bell protects him from blaster fire. Even Avar Kriss, the most powerful Jedi of all, relies on a younger lieutenant to form a complete picture of the disaster.

I love Charles Soule’s writing style and the way he describes the Force as appearing in different ways to different people is so creative. The High Republic is an era that shows diversity is something to be welcomed, not feared, and that teamwork is what holds a Republic together. Usually in Star Wars, the galaxy is in a bad place - and sure, it’s in a spot of bother here too - but this era still represents what we on earth should strive to achieve.

That’s a great review. Makes me want to read it again. Are you planning on reading Into the Shadows next? While I don’t think it’s quite as good as Light of the Jedi, it’s definitely worth reading. I’d love to get your thoughts on it.

Thanks, Rodney! As for Into the Dark (which I’m sure is what you meant!), I’ve heard great things about it, but I want to wait until it comes out in paperback. I might give in to temptation before that, but I’ll see. I’ve been collecting the main High Republic comic run by Cavan Scott and the HR Adventures comic run by Daniel Jose Older, so those are what I’m planning to read next after Light of the Jedi.

Yes, that’s it. I confused it with “Out of the Shadows” coming in July.

I have read: Light of the Jedi, Test of Courage, Into the Dark, HR comic 1,2,3 & 4 & HRA comic 1 & 2.

I have come to the conclusion that it is my favourite star wars material ever. Each book was fantastic and the comics are brilliant too. I am sold on this era & want to see it in live action.

Live action GEODE!

I can die happy if this happens.

Geode would probably make the easiest transition to live action. For Bo Katan, Lucasfilm had to hire hair-styling specialists to make Katee Sackhoff a hairpiece as close to the animated version as possible; for Ahsoka, experiments with practical head-tail length had to be conducted. With Geode, you go to the nearest rocky area and take your pick.

I’d buy all the Geode figures and Funkos right now if they released them.
