Hello!

New to the site, been a fan of Star Wars for many, many years. I have fond memories of watching my dad’s Original Trilogy VHS tapes as a child, and reenacting (and failing haha) to recreate the magic with my Lego. Star Wars is definitely one of the main reasons I’m so interested into filmmaking, and probable the main reason why I animate (stop-motion, to be precise). When I first started out I would just scramble together my Lego and try my best to create my own stories within the Star Wars Universe, but, capture it on film (or digital, whatever way you look at it)
Anyways, been working on a Star Wars stop-motion (finished it yesterday), and it would be real cool if I could “show it off” haha!

Happy to be here 👍

Hello,

My name is Jerad, and I am a bit of a newcomer to the Star Wars universe, I am here mainly for my girlfriend. She loves the Original Trilogy and I recently purchased the 2006 DVD box-set for her but the quality is terrible as you well know. I got her what feels like the Holy Grail, but I can’t wait to see what Harmy has done!

Hi all…I have been asked by my RPG group to run a Star Wars game. Settled on the fanmade SW5E for the rules. Found my way here in research…lol. I fondly remember seeing The Empire Strikes Back as a little boy (a little young to have seen A New Hope) and was not impressed with the special editions. Glad to find like-minded people here.

Hello,

I have been a big Star Wars fan since the early 80s when my parents took me to see ROTJ is the theatre.

Recently, I have become interested in the De-Specialized editions as I want to share the original versions with my own kids.

I’m also interested in an edit that properly finishes up the skywalker saga. Obviously, I don’t think Rise of Skywalker did a great job of that!

Anyways, I’m happy to contribute to the discussion.

Hi everyone

I was introduced to StarWars when I bought the German VHS version in the 90s.
I don’t remember why I chose to buy StarWars but it was money well spent. 😃

Since then I have bought the original trilogy also on LaserDisc but the version I like the most these days is Harmy’s DEED.

I was looking for the DEED with German soundtrack for my kids and found this forum.

I also copied my VHS version of the films into digital.

That’s all about me.

Just watched the edit - really enjoyed the changes, especially the major changes at the end (Kylo, Rey is nobody etc). Thanks for the hard work!

hi!! I’m Koral!

My first introduction to Star Wars was when I watched the specialized edition of the original trilogy back in the early 2010’s.

I have always adored fairytales and mythology, and I have such a soft spot for stories that draw heavy inspiration from them. Which I guess is why I’m so drawn to the OT.
I have alot of feelings and thoughts regarding the OT, but other people have already said it way better than I ever could. Goes to show how iconic and culturally relevant they are, since they have been discussed and analysis so much for decades. I can’t speak about them on an “academic” level, but at leas on a personal level I can say that the OT means alot to me.

I’ve never seen it but I’ve always been curious about the original unaltered version. One day youtube randomly decided to recommend me a video about Harmy’s despecialized edition. I watched them and I honestly didn’t expect that it would be such a different experience. It really made me love the OT even more.

I discovered this forum afterwards. A few months ago I didn’t even know that fanedits and restoration projects where a thing, but I have gain soooo much respect for people who make them.

Hi.
I grew up watching a VHS tape with all 3 films recorded off HBO in SLP mode (terrible quality). I later graduated to a VHS trilogy box set and then another VHS trilogy box set (remastered?) and then went to see the Special Edition versions in the theater which would foreshadow my disillusionment with the prequels. I naively thought surely the original theatrical cuts would be preserved for future generations.

Well, I fell out of love with Star Wars, got obsessed with Blade Runner (again through VHS), watched that too many times, and rediscovered THX 1138 which I was too young to appeeciate the first time I saw it. Now I’m less concerned with the OT being lost, but the original cut of THX 1138 which appears to be out of print. I have what appears to be a VHS rip or maybe laserdisc rip on a harddrive, but I feel it needs a loving restoration without the extraneous low-quality additions Lucas made.

Anyway, I signed up here after watching The People vs. George Lucas in the hopes of finding other people who care about THX 1138 as much as I do. I still love the Star Wars trilogy and always will. Those films are etched into my subconscious and are fun to revisit once in a while when it’s possible to avoid the Special Editions.

Anyway, I don’t exclusively like sci-fi, I like all kinds of great cinema and I’m a music lover.

This has been my introductory post. If any other THX lovers out there want to direct me to the proper discussion thread, please do. Otherwise I’ll just browse and read and maybe chime in.
Thanks!

Hello all,

I like many were brought to this group due to Harmy’s despecialized editions and have now become obsessed with customizing my current versions, and other fan projects. Glad to be aboard.

Hey all,

I am a long-time fan of Star Wars, my brother and I were shown the original trilogy by our father at a young age and it has shaped my taste in media for my life onward. Unlike me, my lovely partner was not so lucky to be exposed to the galaxy far far away at a young age, and recently after a reluctant exploration into Disney’s The Mandolorian she became interested in filling out the rest of the Star Wars viewing experience. After a battle through the prequel films and an enjoyable jaunt with Solo and Rogue One, we came to the evening to watch A New Hope. As we were about to pop in the old and grainy vhs copy we had access to one of our roommates mentioned this sight to me and I couldn’t help but poke around. I have seen some of what I imagine to be products of this sight, Scene 38 Reimagined being the one that stands out most in my mind. But after digging around I can see it goes much deeper than this, (perhaps the prequels wouldn’t have been such a slog if they had been one movie!). Either way, I just wanted to say hi and put myself out there as the site recommends before diving in.

Warm Regards,

Finn

Hello everybody
I goes by the nickname Rondan and this is my story for being among such admirable hob… I mean stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herders 😄

I was born in the same decade of A New Hope, this means that I have only seen the OT on tv and vhs around their resleases. When I was getting older there was a new version of the OT that got released with som years between them. I saw all three movies in one of the finest cinemas in my country and if I don’t remembers it wrong this was 1997. By that time I was blown away with the special effects that they incorperated into the movies.

And at the same time the down fall of the movies that I loved growing up with, was about to happen. I bought the vhs silver edition of the OT when they came out and that was the first and the last time I bought the movies, until I discovered Otdotcom that is.

Sometime around 2010 I was sick and tired of all the versions so I started to think about restoring the OT to its former glory, or maybe find someone who is doing it, because I lacked the talents to do it myself. I started to search the internet for guides and information and found the names of Darth Editous and ADigitalMan poping up about their work to restore the movies. But I couldn’t in my life find a complete copy of their work. And then I found Adywan, Harmy and OT in 2011 and became a member in 2012. To day I own the official versions on Blu-ray and I have managed to get some but not all versions of the OT that I want to see, but that’s another story.

I’m not even close to be as nerdy as most of you nerf herders in here but I contribute once and a while 😄 And have being around close to ten years now, I just can’t stop admire the hard work that people put into their edits/restorations efforts in here.

I’m out of words.

May the force be with you all…

Always

Hello all, I’m Edgar, I love Star Wars. I first saw the OT when I was 7, strangely enough my cousin showed them to me in the order of best to worst (his opinion) Episodes 6, 5, 4. I don’t think it ruined my enjoyment of the series much, as I was barely learning English and I was all-in when I saw lightsabers, x-wings, and speeder bikes. I saw Episode 1 when I was 10, I enjoy the PT dearly. I’m currently 24 episodes deep on my first watch through of the Clone Wars (chronological order), and I’ve recently roped 3 friends into watching the star wars movies. I’m having a blast discovering/revisiting EU books and comics, looking forward to the new SW shows. I’m pretty shy and shan’t lurk off topic, y’all can probably find me in the OT/PT edits’ threads.

Hello OT.com! I’m TyleStyle. I’m majoring in animation, I love art, drawing, creating films, and painting. Ever since I was a kid I always loved and treasured the original trilogy over anything even the new star wars films and shows. The original Trilogy means so much to me and I love seeing teams and communities of fans working on projects to preserve the theatrical cut and releases of the films. I’m very excited to join the community and to be discussing with fans about the original trilogy and our love for them. I’m also looking forward to reading about the new upcoming edits of the films and seeing what’s going on.

Hello There!

I’m here because I’ve been a star wars fan my whole life. However, as a 22 year old I never had the opportunity to see the originals in theatres. I also have only ever seen the Special Edition OT movies.

I came here hoping to find something like 4K77 to be able to experience Star Wars similar to how it was released. I’m still trying to figure out how to go about that though.

Hey, everyone!

Happy to be here with you. I grew up grinding my copies of the OT into the ground on Beta and then loving my Laserdisc Star Wars Definitive Collection. 🙂 I went out and bought the DVDs with the crappy version of the originals day 1 just to have some version of these great films that I can enjoy (and I still find myself putting that on way more than I watch the OT Blu-Rays…).

I’m super interested in the restorations of the OT and have been learning bits and pieces about the Despecialized Edition, 4K, etc., and I am looking forward to learning a lot more! 🙂 (I also ran across the Puggo edits somewhere else on the internet, and I’m strangely interested in that kind of drive-in, grindhouse-y experience of Star Wars, too!)

Other thoughts: I have just recently learned to love the prequels for the goofy space soap opera they are, I mostly appreciate the sequel series, I dug the other films and Mando, and I’m watching Clone Wars for the first time in the third season and having a lot of fun. 🙂

Anyways, MTFBWY!!
