Hello! I am new here, but I read the above post about the picture being faded to pink, and I am happy to say that the color information for blue is in there, it’s just a pain to draw it out. I actually corrected pretty decently, and I would like to show you… I just can’t figure out how to post the image here. Help a new guy out?

So this is the pic I worked on for a few minutes. Still not sure how to get it to show on here though.

That’s not TOO disimilar from the non-faded video version.
Might take a swing at that frame as well.
Gonna use the ColorMatch tool to try and match it up with the same frame from the video
Vid Frame

Well, this is the result.
Not bad; skin tones look a little redder than the video’s yellow tinge, and not much can be done to recover the blown out highlights (the lights on the top left and camera man’s shiny head), but imo a great result to get from pink city to near full color in a few clicks. Btw, Williarob, I assume you did a single pass on color correcting the print? Just curious as the shot of Han and Leia @ 3:32 looks WAY different than the TV print, wheras the others look sort of in the ball park.

Yes, I used a single grade for the whole print. Here’s how that shot looks currently:

I’ll probably take another look at the colors when I’m done stabilizing, see if I can make it any better. I still see some pink in the snow there.

If there is anything I can do, let me know… I am retired and don’t have too much going on.

Sorry folks still trying to figure out how to get the pic on here to display

Whew… Got it finally! Thanks all for the assistance. I can play with histograms and bezier curves all day, but when it comes to html stuff… yikes.

At any rate, it took probably about 20 minutes to get the colors somewhat natural. Finding the black point and white point was not an issue, but finding a neutral grey point was a pain. After I got those levels corrected, I simply went to boost saturation on all channels, and then I went to the individual channels (RBGCMY) and adjusted for intensity and output level. The color data IS all there, it is just a real pain to finesse it out.

I’m not 100% certain it’s ALL there, but you’re right about trying to pull it out of the print. Took a lot of trail and error, but this is as close as I can get in terms of one-size-fits-all correction.
About as good as can be

Looks nice, can’t wait to see it when it is all done.

(To the group) If there are any stills or prints that need correction and or repairs, hit me up. I am retired and I get a lot of enjoyment from taking old film / photos and making them look like a fresh prints from their time period.

Does the invite code in the opening post of this thread no longer work?

I registered on the board in 2006. I think at the time i was waiting for the “X0 Project”.
The wait(hope) for some official release has been so frustrating.

(I have never been really excited by “De-specialization” projects)

I was a bit hyped by the work from M. Verta but we will probably never see it and it would maybe have ended up beeing “restored” too much.

Recently saw that a 2.0 release is planned, with reel by reel color timing. I feel like in the end, this is what i have been waiting for 20 years. (the 1.4 version is already fantastic)
Thank you !

Where would I get more information on the “4K77 Grindhouse” release? I’ve got a user wanting to sync subtitle tracks to it, and I don’t know where all the extra/missing frames are. Does anyone already have this info? e.g. the person who synced the audio?

what usenet server can you use to download 4k77 that does not have a dmcc takedown for it.

Yes, …

Your’s is an old post (Jan.) but I hope you still check back. Wanted to say nice project by you, and your crew. I must take a look at it (the stills are good).

Have you checked your project page lately? There’s lot’s of bad links. Hopefully you can have them easily fixed. This snapshot showes 3 video errors/denials (with another 3 further down):

Also liked the “picture slider”. I’ve seen it on other sites but I can’t save the page and still have it work. Apparently it because it’s posters are keeping some code “proprietary” (must be accessed live). The thing is, they probably got it & modified it from the W3Schools website, for free:
https://www.w3schools.com/howto/howto_js_image_comparison.asp
Hope you can switch to this free one that can be saved with the page.

But as for the slider function, I also noticed your demonstration pictures are poor compares – wrong sized, wrong aligns, and even wrong frames:

TOP: ORIGINAL COMPARE

BOTTOM: RESIZED-ALIGNED COMPARE

As you see, it’s easy enough to fix with the present shots, except the wrong frames (which you could fix in a moment) and frame-trimming (so the edge difference won’t distract).

Just learned of this 4K restoration and would like to join the forums at thestarwarstrilogy.com, but have yet to receive the confirmation email after registering with the code provided at the top of this thread. Is that code still good? Do I need to give them more time to email me the confirmation (it’s been about 30 minutes).

Is it even necessary to join the forums if I just want to download these from usenet? Will I see them readily available at the alt.binaries.starwars group, or will the forums provide more details on where to download them from?

TIA!

UPDATE: Ok, I guess I was impatient. 😃 I did get an email confirmation a couple of days later, and I’m now scouring the forums, can’t wait to enjoy “my” Star Wars!
