Iain McCaig and Doug Chiang should be working on new films, way too talented to be storyboarding or doing concept arts for novels and comic books.

I like the insinuation that novels/comics are inferior mediums to film.

Frankly, I’d love to read a comic drawn by McCaig/Chiang, and would prefer it over a movie. Wonder if either have considered delving into that artform.

It is a golden age. Intrepid hyperspace scouts expand the reach of the Republic to the furthest stars, worlds flourish under the benevolent leadership of the Senate, and peace reigns, enforced by the wisdom and strength of the renowned order of Force users known as the Jedi. With the Jedi at the height of their power, the free citizens of the galaxy are confident in their ability to weather any storm But the even brightest light can cast a shadow, and some storms defy any preparation.
When a shocking catastrophe in hyperspace tears a ship to pieces, the flurry of shrapnel emerging from the disaster threatens an entire system. No sooner does the call for help go out than the Jedi race to the scene. The scope of the emergence, however, is enough to push even Jedi to their limit. As the sky breaks open and destruction rains down upon the peaceful alliance they helped to build, the Jedi must trust in the Force to see them through a day in which a single mistake could cost billions of lives.
Even as the Jedi battle valiantly against calamity, something truly deadly grows beyond the boundary of the Republic. The hyperspace disaster is far more sinister than the Jedi could ever suspect. A threat hides in the darkness, far from the light of the age, and harbors a secret that could strike fear into even a Jedi’s heart.

Vernestra Rwoh is a new Jedi Knight at age sixteen, but her first real assignment feels an awful lot like babysitting. She’s been charged with supervising twelve-year old aspiring inventor Avon Starros on a cruiser headed to the dedication of a wondrous new space station called Starlight Beacon.
But soon into their journey, bombs go off aboard the cruiser. While the adult Jedi try to save the ship, Vernestra, Avon, Avon’s droid J-6, a Jedi Padawan, and an ambassador’s son make it to an escape shuttle, but communications are out and supplies are low. They decide to land on a nearby moon, which offers shelter but not much more. And unbeknownst to them, danger lurks in the forest?

Padawan Reath Silas is being sent from the cosmopolitan galactic capital of Coruscant to the undeveloped frontier-and he couldn’t be less happy about it. He’d rather stay at the Jedi Temple, studying the archives. But when the ship he’s traveling on is knocked out of hyperspace in a galactic-wide disaster, Reath finds himself at the center of the action. The Jedi and their traveling companions find refuge on what appears to be an abandoned space station. But then strange things start happening, leading the Jedi to investigate the truth behind the mysterious station, a truth that could end in tragedy…

Despite hating the term High Republic i much prefer old republic. They should be making these as films.

Those are two different eras. The Old Republic was thousands of years before TPM but the High Republic is only hundreds of years before.

The Acolyte is described to take place near the end of the High Republic.

Now THIS is Coruscant:

Reminds me of McQuarrie’s concept art of Had Abbadon for ROTJ. I want to know who made this, I love it.

I can’t believe how well planned all of it sounds. I know they’ve been working on it for years, but it sound like they have so much mapped out. There’s a ton of concept art too and it all looks amazing. I’m all in on this.

Yeah, the amount of planning is pretty impressive. The authors have a clear idea about the state of the galaxy in this era. The characters seem promising as well. Almost looks like Lucasfilm is learning from their past mistakes. I’m cautiously optimistic and definitely will give this a chance.

‘Light of the Jedi is One of My Favourite Star Wars Books’ by Alex at Star Wars Explained.

Every single review I’ve seen for this book (only a few, when press copies were sent out) has been really positive. Worldbuilding and new characters particularly praised. I love how this series is shaping up (and I love that cover too!)

I fully agree mate; some impressive people involved in this, and have seemingly been given the time and freedom to plan out what they are doing with it. Good to see the official site heavily behind this too:

Star Wars: The High Republic Is Here

and even the official site having a dedicated section to this too - https://www.starwars.com/the-high-republic

Plus, your own Upcoming Star Wars Release Schedule thread on here is pretty useful & helpful resource too 👍

I updated it just now with new titles and dates. (I originally posted it in the Expanded Universe section but maybe I should have put it in the Beyond Star Wars section since it lists movies and TV series too.)

I’m really enjoying “Light of the Jedi” so far!

I finished Light of the Jedi yesterday. Thought about making a dedicated thread for it, but there doesn’t seem to be much interest here in the High Republic, at least not yet.

I think that will change. Watching that panel with all the authors, the have so much planned across all levels of books and comics. More importantly, Light of the Jedi was really good. I highly recommend it. I think the High Republic will become a huge part of Star Wars.

The first novel is the only one available in ireland at the moment.

I had to go on ebay and purchase the first comic & test of courage from an american seller…

I can’t find Into the dark anywhere, it doesn’t even release in ireland until next month and the dispatch wont happen until march.

I am excited to start the high republic material but this is so disheartening.

I’m in NI and sympathise with that, forbidden planet int. is the only good local comic store I know of and the first comic is sold out there - I’m presuming they’ll get it back in stock at some point but they’ve never been very good at stocking SW comics. It was about 3 quid in Forbidden Planet, as far as I can see my only option right now is buying it for about £12 on eBay, from American stores too I think. Choosing to wait it out until the situation improves.

The designs on this project are just phenomenal. I love the medieval dress vibe the Jedi have.

The framing of the Wookiee makes it look like he has flappy dog ears. Thought I spotted out old pal Barf.

I’m about halfway through Light of the Jedi and enjoying it so far. Pretty good all-around dramatic intro to the Jedi in the first several chapters.

My stance on revising fan edits.
