That wasn’t a comment on a typo.

JEDIT: Wait a minute, that’s the dumb-ass anti-vaccination doc. What the hell are you even talking about?

It must be slang related to online piracy.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is a bit of a mess. The colors are bad, it’s DNRed to hell, and it only features the extended version of the movie with scenes not included in the original theatrical release. Currently, the best way to watch the movie (if you don’t speak Italian) is to watch the International Cut restoration that’s on BT and MySpleen.

But the worst major release from a studio aside from poor elements or a smaller label having lack of money or care…is Universals Family Plot. Holy **** you can obviously tell they did not care about their Hitchcock stable and still do not. What an atrocious mangling of the Master’s final work. The DVD is better in every single possible way.

That one wasn’t great, but it didn’t seem THAT bad. Predator Ultimate Hunter edition… YUCK!!!

So has anybody mentioned Moontrap from 1989 with Walter Koenig and Bruce Campbell?

Good LORD. That’s the worst Blu-ray transfer ever right there. Terrible picture quality dipping into VHS at times with pale blacks and no detail (which would be bad enough it weren’t cropped from 4:3 to 16:9… and it is). And unlike some of Anchor Bay’s output, this release doesn’t even have the courtesy of giving us a decent audio track to make up for the picture quality. Its audio track poorly defined with muddled music, sound effects and speech.

Wowsers!! That one doesn’t look very good, but it seems the fingers point more to company that Olive licenced it from (Olive hardly does any remastering work on titles they get, just take the studio 1080p files they receive and plop 'em onto Blu), as they took a Laserdisc master (made from a worn 16mm print) and applied a crop job plus DNR.

Sleepy Hollow. The DVD was bad enough but all the, many and varied, flaws are even more noticeable in the blu. Add to that the fact that there’s no special features at all (not even the flippin’ commentary!) and you’ve got yourself a truly terrifying home entertainment experience.

The Color of Money. I finally watched it last week (I knew that the Blu reviews weren’t particularly positive, but it was another Scorsese picture for me to discover), and to me it really looks terrible.

It nearly put me off at the beginning of the movie, but I must admit that I more or less forgot about the PQ as it went on because the story was IMO compelling enough (I actually really enjoyed it) not to think too much about its bad DVD-like quality.

That film somehow looks bad on all formats: LD DVD and BD.
In other words the mouse doesn’t care one iota about it.

Silly me I misread the thread’s title, I thought it said something else.

The Spanish Blu-Ray of Highlander: The Source may top the list. Not only is it pan and scan, it has severe compression worse than many of the first DVDs ever, and no extras whatsoever. This for one of the worst films out there.

There’s justice in the world after all.

Game of Thrones: Season 8 due to a poor automated HDR-to-SDR conversion is too dark to make up any details during the Battle of Winterfell, resulting in a picture quality on par with the first VHS of Fantastic Voyage.

I don’t think that was a poor conversion. Everyone complained about the exact same thing on broadcast.

Top of my list is Star Trek VI:

Ditto.

For some reason, this is always the first thing that springs to mind whenever I think of the worst blu-ray transfers. Maybe it’s because I’m just barely old enough to remember when my Mom took me to see it in the theater. She actually surprised me with a theater-used ST6 poster this past Christmas.

It’s the blu-ray equivalent of the GOUT for me.

The source master is apparently a 1080i they IVTC’d to 24p, as evidenced by the stair-stepping. My guess is that while they probably had a decent-looking 1080p of the director’s version (the fresh transfer done in 2004 for the collector’s dvd to replace the old non-anamorphic transfer), this 1080i from whenever/wherever was the best looking transfer of the theatrical cut they had lying around. So rather than spend the money on a fresh transfer they simply gave us this.

Voyage Home arguably looks the worst, like someone applied the watercolor filter and turned it up to eleven.

Hey, are we going to get a Director’s Cut of STVI with the inserted Chang, Nanklus, and Cartwright images, a computer doesn’t lie, or my personal log was used against me mods? I have a Star Trek VI DE sorta HD transfer 1280x648. Found a link to it in the cloud but cannot even remember where it was. IT looks like crap but it’s the closest I could get. I tried to make my own but could not even figure out how… I asked Nick Meyer via fanmail of a DE BR was in the works. NADA.

Hell if i know. They’ve sat on a restored 4K version of Wrath of Khan for years and its never been released on 4K UHD disc. So for the rest of the films remastered for 4k, HD streaming or blu ray, i have no idea.

Paramount just looks like they don’t want to spend the money.
