Click here if you feel like reading some year old rumors stating that the guy who directed the Brendan Fraser Mummy films and Van Helsing collaborating with that guy who’s dating Demi Moore on a new Flash Gordon film.

Basically I got nothing better to post so I figured I’d take up some space with this.

I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Oh God no... Not THAT remake... I liked the Queen song though.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

As long as they get Brian Blessed in as Vultan and get Queen's Flash tune in there I'll be happy

I hope they don't this. The old serials, should have been the last of Flash Gordon. Let it rest.

I can't wait until Flash Gordon comes out on DVD.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Actually they did put it on DVD, but then it got pulled and now you can't find it in stores. I managed to order a copy of Amazon, but it came with Spanish and Korean subtitles. The movie itself is still in English, but depending on which option you push when you first put the DVD in you'll have either Spanish subtitles or Korean subtitles playing all the way through.

We can always hope that someday it'll get a big spiffy special edition re-release.

The 80s 'Flash Gordon' is one of my all-time favorite films! I was lucky enough to get the bare-bones DVD that already came out and I too have my fingers crossed for a special edition.

Region 2 gets a special edition in a few weeks, the bastards!

It features, according to Amazon.UK, "Mike Hodges Audio Commentary - Brian Blessed Audio Commentary - Interviews - Trailer - Original Concept Artwork - Photo Slideshow - Dolby Digital 5.1 &DTS - Restored Picture Quality - First Episode Of The Original 1940 Serial"

There's been a bare-bones region 2 dvd of the 1980 Flash Gordon film for a couple of years - usually goes for around £7 (US$11?)

www.play.com

www.amazon.co.uk

For anyone with a region 1 dvd player the chances are that it can made into a multi-region dvd player - info at dvd.reviewer.co.uk or probably dvdhelp.com

Good to see a new special edition coming soon, though

I'm still waiting to see if they'll make an over produced film version of Buck Rogers.

The French got a 2-disc special edition last year or the year before.

I've been getting by with my widescreen laserdisc, which probably has the same transfer as--and looks better than--the non-anamorphic DVD released in the US many years ago. A new DVD would be most welcome.

It's funny you guys still love the Flash Gordon movie from the 80's. I remember loving that movie also as a kid, but seeing it one day recently I couldn't believe how bad it was. I guess I've grown up lol.

Calling George Lucass. * j/k * You know eventually it'll happen. There just aren't any bright ideas in hollywood anymore. They're either based on comic books, books, video games, history, or do sequels or prequels. There's not a lot of new ideas anymore.

A more serious, non-campy version of Flash Gordon might be good. If done right. The basis of the story, and the 1940's serial, I think is solid, but the 1980 remake was just a silly camp-fest. But then it just wouldn't really be Flash Gordon then. Of course, I like the 1980 movie, but I don't think it could be remade as is and be any sort of success.

If they based the movie on the old cartoon series then I would definetly go to see it. I can't stand the movie they did, although I used to think the Princess was pretty hot (in the cartoon and the movie).

Never saw Flesh Gordon, but it may have been better than the actual movie.

In addition to being slated to write and direct this new Flash Gordon movie, Stephen Sommers (The Mummy 1999, The Mummy Returns 2001, and Van Helsing 2004) is slated to do an adaptation of Captain Marvel - the Power of SHAZAM. Just check Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com) to see for yourselves.

Success - yes

Good films - no

Thing with the Mummy films, is apart from Brendon 'I'm an idiot' Fraser..is that, especially Mummy returns, is that it relied to much on CGI...and the CGI looked so fake..(please no SW jokes here)

And 'Van Helsing' was just a pile of shit...I mean the guy had more bloody gadgets than Batman..and when was is set 18th, 19th Century...what a load of tosh!

Anyway Van Helsing was considered a box office flop.....So God knows what Flash Gordon will be like?!?
