Thoughts on the color schemes for the widescreen and pan & scan packaging for pre-Blu-Ray-release DVD packaging

Author
Time
  • For the prequels and the individual OT releases, both widescreen and pan & scan used gold spine text and logos, but widescreen used gold bars on top and bottom of the front covers while pan & scan used blue bars on top and bottom of the front covers

  • For trilogy OT box sets, everything is silver for the widescreen versions and everything is gold for the pan & scan packaging. This color scheme is also used for the 1997 trilogy box set VHS packaging.

Any feelings on this?

What sort of feelings should we be searching for, darklordoftech? 😉

What do you think of the colour choices made for those releases?

Confusingly I think the gold and silver 2004 boxes were both widescreen here, but one was a retailer exclusive.

The gold/silver boxes carried over the scheme from the 97SE VHS boxsets.

At least the blue P/S dvds are easy to tell apart from the widescreen gold copies.

I know, but why I don’t know why they would go with a color scheme that had been abandoned by both the 2000 VHS box sets and by the prequel DVDs.

Incorrect.

In what way?

In regards to the 2004 sets, Gold was Fullscreen and Silver was widescreen regardless of retailer.

Incorrect. 😉

That had to be the retailer exclusive then because most places I saw that carried those sets had gold for FS and silver for WS (just like the ‘97 VHS’).

Here in the UK, the VHS sets were the same colour scheme as given above (silver for WS, gold for FS). However, the 2004 DVD set was only released in WS here as far as I know, and was gold.
