Does not include Rogue One, yet uses a very Rogue One image for the box. Named “The Skywalker Saga”, yet does not use any Skywalkers on the box. Huh.

I don’t agree with your first point but very much agree with the second.

I can only imagine it’s temp artwork until it’s officially announced.

Do we get discounts on this new box set if we prove we have bought previous versions (or ‘visions’) many, many, many times before? 😉

No. You just get a button that says “I’ve been duped” in the Star Wars font.

No OOT - no sale. I’d pay that much for the set just to get the OOT, and just sell off the rest of the discs individually.

Seems there will also be an 18-disc ‘Skywalker Saga’ blu ray box set (and a 9-disc box set on dvd) - for the UK at least…

I imagine there’ll also be an option in most other countries too… (or ‘on import’ for those that may prefer it IF it a UK-only thing)

And I’m sure the Empire of Dreams HD “remaster” will be included, complete with upconverted interviews and replaced film footage.

Does the disc count add up to existing releases combined or something new?

People are guessing (details haven’t been released as to what the contents are)

9 4k UHD discs (one per film)
9 Blu-ray discs (one per film)
9 bonus discs (one per film)

And that seems to be the best bet considering the blu-ray only set is exactly 9 discs less than the 4k set.

It could be possible that the 9 bonus discs are not a per-film thing (this is where whatever original versions hope one might have still lives) at which point you could have the bonuses broken out in a bunch of different ways, with three discs (or even more, considering the theatrical cuts of the Prequels aren’t available anymore either) dedicated to presenting the originals at 1080p, and all the rest of the bonus features occupying whatever discs are left.

Either those bonus discs are going to be a real waste of storage space, or we’re getting a considerable amount of bonus content for the OT and PT that wasn’t on the complete Bluray set, which had just three bonus discs for the six films. The ST stuff will just be the same stuff that came with their recent Bluray releases, I imagine.

Glad to hear I don’t need to get the 4k versions. I probably will have to get this, if nothing else for the new transfer of the OT SE. I hope there are good special features. I think I’ll wait for some reviews of what is in it before buying it.

kinda mad the standalone 4k release for rise of skywalker doesn’t appear to include a blu-ray bonus disc like the last few films have.

There’s no info about how many discs are included. How do you know?

If this included the GOUT, maybe- just maybe- I’d consider getting this set. Otherwise, what’s the point?

I agree with the sentiment, since you probably mean a respectful NEW transfer of the unaltered original trilogy. Technically the acronym GOUT is reserved specifically for the modified Laserdisc transfer made available on DVD form as a bonus feature (and as a middle finger to fans). That thing better not be making any more appearances.

There’s also a 65 GBP Blu-Ray set that doesn’t include the 4K discs, but has everything else in the 27 disc set.

The cost of the 27-disc 4K UHD set at Amazon UK is now £200 - up £20 on the price previously listed.

The prices for the 18-disc blu ray set, and the 9-disc dvd sets remain the same as before - £65 & £45 respectively.

Edit: the release dates on BestBuy and Amazon have also been removed or amended to no longer have a release date of 31st March. Instead, they now read as ‘Release Date: Not Announced’ on BestBuy, & have a date of ‘2030’ on Amazon…

The previous 31st March release date for ‘The Rise Of Skywalker’ on 4K UHD, blu ray and dvd… have also been changed and withdrawn as above too.

According to this poster at blu-ray.com, Target’s already got individual 4K titles in their system already, and they’re dated for release simultaneous with the box-set (March 31st), which appears to still be a Best Buy exclusive.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=17314051&postcount=2453

According to another poster, the individual 4K titles are 3-discs each (4K/Blu/Bonus), at least in Germany and Australia. That might hold true for every other region too, although people are still worrying/“hearing” that individual titles in NA won’t have the bonus discs, and the only way to get them would be through the box-set.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=17315086&postcount=2476

it’s appearing as if the only upside to getting the box-set is cosmetic, as none of the on-disc content will be exclusive to it, so if you don’t care about the box, the letter, and the special book/artwork, you’re probably okay simply buying the movies you want individually. I believe this is the first time in quite awhile that Lucasfilm is allowing you to essentially part out a brand new set at retail. In 2004 you couldn’t just buy individual DVD titles in the OT, you had to get the full set or nothing. Same with the 2011 BD set (although I believe shortly afterwards they let you buy either trilogy in a separate set, sans bonus discs). But for 4K, it looks like they’re saying “you don’t HAVE to buy a box to get all the goodies. Just pick the movies you want.”

too bad I don’t care about any of the goodies being provided 😠

…okay?

Nobody even knows what the “goodies” are yet.

I get that. EVERYBODY here wants the original movies. That’s an automatic. So, with that taken for granted… I don’t get the drive behind entering a thread specifically about the thing you “don’t care” about to tell us you don’t want it, even though you don’t actually know what’s on it, because nobody does.

That I don’t get. There’s a ton of stuff on these boards I also don’t care about. I don’t make a point of going into those threads specifically to tell anyone who might be looking at me that I don’t care, either. It doesn’t make any sense.

Anyway: I was hoping Iger might mention this set or the upcoming releases during the investor call yesterday, but he did not. However, with this set dropping at the end of March, the details of what’s on each set have to be coming pretty soon.

That pick of all 27 discs spread out sure looks like 3 groups of 9. My guess is the plain looking first row is the special features, the middle row is the 1080p, and the bottom is the UHD.

I need that machine Deckard has in Blade Runner.
